About freaking time.

I've always enjoyed the heavy, gritty feeling of Codemasters' racers this gen. and I imagine GRID 2 will be no different. No one has come close to capturing the feel of torque and g-forces throwing both you and your car around the track. Couple that with the best camera replays and menu ui in the genre and you've got something to keep a close eye on. Also enjoy the fine balance they reach between arcade/sim handling models.

I'll likely be on board at launch for this one.

Stop the presses!

Eurogamer.net: In-car view is out, after Codemasters' research discovered that 95 per cent of players use chase or bonnet cameras to play.

No cockpit view?

No thanks.

This just went from insta-buy to no-buy.

I feel I'm in the minority, but I never use cockpit view. When I try to use it I just end up off the track or running into someone else.

I liked it in Dirt2 but mostly found myself in Chase or Bonnet.

I'll liekly get Grid 2 as long as my Wheel is supported! Need more PS3 games that will use my Wheel. So far GT5 and the Dirt series are all I can find!

Wheel is LT Driving Force GT

My first foray into Force Feedback and man, I'll never go back.

I generally use hood view, mainly due to the limited field of vision you get in car. If I had a 3 monitor setup, in car would make more sense to me.

I sometimes will go to in car if it's done well. I use it a lot in Forza 4. But hood is my go to in most games.

Apparently you're actually in the majority as Codies' research says 95% of players do not use cockpit cam.

It's funny 'cause I have no problem with straight-up arcade racers (Burnout, etc.) not having cockpit view. But when the driving models become more realistic and the car licenses are from real world manufactures, then I want a more immersive, authentic experience as found in cockpit cam driving.

I'm not trying to make a big statement by rejecting GRID 2 based on this as they rival Turn 10 for my favorite racing developer this gen. It's just hard when you have expectations established (GRID, DiRT 2 & 3) only to have features, and major selling-point ones at that, pulled away.

It just makes my interest completely evaporate.

Grid is mostly an arcade racer, I can live without the cockpit view. If they only had behind the car camera angles, then I'd probably fire up Burnout or a NFS game instead of this.

I played Dirt:Showdown a week or so ago. The lack of in-car dash cam bothered me for about twenty seconds, then I got back to having fun.

I've only played GRID a little, but now I kinda wanna play it more. I'll totally pick this up too.

GRID was one of my favourite racers of the last few years. I'll most likely check this out...

I'm getting conflicting search results. Does anyone know if GRID is compatible with the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel for PS3?

Some say yes, some say no.

OK, This says yes.

I played the demo on the PC ages ago and found the controls too difficult. Never picked it up again but now that I have the wheel I really should give it another go. Deals are out there so I'll find a good one for the PS3.

Looking forward to G2

I would assume just about every racing game from Codemasters supports the Driving Force GT. It's the most popular wheel for the system and they only have to design the wheel software once (which they have) and then tweak it for each game.

Hmm, finding a good deal on this game in Canada is tougher than I thought.
$33 on Amazon.ca.
Bestguy - no have ti
Futureshop - no have it
EB has it used, not in my locations...
stoopid poopids.

Oy, my fault, haven't updated this thread in quite a while.

This game looks amazing.

I eventually found Grid and tried it out.
Yup, I still suck at it.
I even set all the assistance on and easy but found the controls and sensitivities to be REALLY sensitive.
Having played the Dirt series, I guess i've gotten used to a more arcade feel of driving than a simulator.
Grid feels more like a sim than a game but damn if i won't try Grid 2. I'll rent it first and see how it feels.

Anyone care to help a brother out in terms of deciding on which pre-order to get?

Haven't cracked into most of the single player yet, but so far so good. Game runs buttery smooth with everything maxed out at 1920x1080 on my GTX 570.

Did they have to put that chromatic aberration blur on the UI?

So far my only disappointment with Grid 2 is this:

Enough to make me frown and say, "Really?"

Haven't dived too far into it yet, but early impressions are good. Online works smoothly enough, with some neat anti-griefing features (penalty for cutting corners, ghosting of people driving like morons so they don't get in your way).

Glad to hear that. Griefing absolutely ruined the Dirt 2 experience at launch.

Something about the Codemasters games seems to attract the hoon driver sub-class.

My first online race was with the nsx-r, which I had not driven in a game since the last grid. Holy crap I'm terrible with that car.

how are you finding the control/realism?

I found, compared to Dirt 3, that the first Grid was crazy. I couldn't keep the cars on the track!

I am terrible but i didn't think i was that terrible.

Yeah, that thing drives like a roller skate off the bat. Dump some $$$ into upgrading the handling, and it starts behaving itself nicely.

Realism isn't exactly high. That said, the handling model is pretty nice, if a little twitchy. Haven't quite got to grips with holding a stable drift, but that's as likely operator error as it is the handling model....

Finding the same, took me a while to get the feel in Grid1, I am starting to get it in this one slowly. You need to be really smooth, most importantly when the car starts to slide. Love the AI of the cars, Codemasters have made the most realistic driving AI in Dirt and Grid series. Playing on hardest, it is nice to earn that 2nd or 3rd position after a tough fight.

It was on sale a few days ago but could not post the deal, also has new demolition derby DLC for free. Really fun mode, should be a blast in MP.

Arise!

PAL territories have been lucky enough to get this as their 'free' PS+ title this month, and to coincide with that, there is a whole bunch of downloadable content that is on sale.

Any of these 'must haves'? From what I can tell, some f them are the DLC that used to be attached to the pre-orders, but the Drift, Super Performance, etc lok like they are needed for some races.

Can these be accessed and nlocked 'in game', or are they tied to a purchase? Are the free cars OK to get by with, or do you need to buy the full packs?

Is the RaceNet bonus you get through the McLaren Pack worth it too, and do we have any GWJers using that (before I waste time downloading the RaceNet App, etc)?
