Brutal Legend Catch All

That said, I'd be happy to get some Brutal Legend gaming/achievement hunting in this weekend, maybe. I never actually played the multiplayer, to be honest.

Bonus and I are playing this weekend, too. If we can get one more - it should be pretty easy to boost. Apparently the MP is pretty dead, and if you have a team of two - you are pretty guaranteed to get in with another team of two (as you will be the only teams of two out there).

Clem / Nel - looks like you guys have this achievement. You still have the game?

Somebody hang on to it please, b/c I don't have this one yet, either...

I have it, and got the achievement from playing with randoms.

I then infected Bonus. Yah, infected.

That is your general MO...

It's not announced for PC yet =(

Fear not, Mex from almost 4 years ago!

*blinks* Wonder what took them so long?

It is indeed a head-scratcher. It's currenty ~$16 on Amazon, so if the Steam price is under $20, I'm totally going to double dip.

Great! Now I'm only waiting for Red Dead Revolver for PC!

After doing some poking around the DF forums, it looks like Dracogen (the same investor who's backed a number of their PC ports) might have something to do with it.

It will be interesting to see if the delay actually gets more people to buy since some previous customers may want to revisit it.

At a nice price too.

I'm not a big fan of metal, but I do like what I've seen from Double Fine so I'm definitely pre-ordering this to spite Activision and EA.

Ok, let me rephrase that... it's not something I listen to on a regular basis, but I have an open mind about a lot of music genres.

WTF? A bit late to the party, isn't it?

Well, I guess now I have to buy and play this game.

I'm not really either, but absolutely loved it in the game. Embrace your inner head banger, just watch the spiked collar.

Not regarding shoptroll directly, but if you don't like metal/heavy rock, or RTS', you'll likely struggle to enjoy the game. It has a decent amount of Pikmin/Overlord battles, and Metal is this game's soul.

I don't really care for metal but I loved the game. It just fit.

Totally. This was a wonderful experience.

They take a pretty tongue-in-cheek approach to metal, so if you can even appreciate it in a Spinal Tap kind of way, there's something there for you. They also cover a very wide selection of subgenres, so you are hearing stuff like Faith No More and Marilyn Manson along with the variety you'd expect like Judas Priest, Slayer, etc. I'm not really a metal fan either but I enjoyed what I heard in context. I think I recall having some control over the playlist, too.

Well I do have a soft-spot for RTS (even though I suck at the multiplayer) that's not a problem.

Pre-ordered the soundtrack edition, even though I played the hell out of it on 360, because I love this game so much that I will buy it twice.

I still stick by Tim Schafer's original objection that this game isn't an "RTS", in that it doesn't really play like most games in the RTS genre. But I think that's more a matter of trying to temper people's expectations. You create units and you send them out, but in the main campaign at least you're not really meant to do too much micro-managing. The people I knew to have the most trouble tried to micro-manage.

While one could view that as a fault of the game (the roadie units are stealthy and good against structures, but sending them out on their lonesome is too time consuming and bound to get them killed once they're at their destination), it allows the player to spend more time being in the thick of the battle. The game requires you to multitask, but on the whole you are supposed to spend more time figuring out where you yourself are needed rather than sitting back and figuring out where to send units.

With that in mind, I found it to be an incredibly unique game that still feels like no other.

I beat the one and only time on the hardest difficulty setting, and didn't find it bad. If you play it as a pure RTS I suppose it could be, but both the car and your guitar solos are ludicrously powerful and should basically be used as soon as the cooldown expires every time. If you just make a bunch of units at the beginning and then stay on top of your solos you'll crush the campaign.

I got stuck fighting the goth army and never went back to it. I might pick it up for cheap on Steam some time because I did like the game up to that point.

This sounds vaguely like a proto-MOBA although that observation is only based on my incredibly limited understanding of the DOTA/LOL model.

EDIT: In particular I'm thinking of how Super Monday Night Combat works, just your troops are on autopilot in that one. Also, Wildman or Warcraft III maybe too?

I generally hate metal, and this game is what got me to finally be able to see why other people love it.

Nice, that's my birthday! Very appropriate, I love this game.

Oh, on the subject of metal...

They take a pretty tongue-in-cheek approach to metal

Which is part of what makes metal, metal. So very in character there.

It really is a love letter to people that like pre-90's metal, but on the whole I feel like they simply wanted to use metal as the back bone for an interesting universe. Also, yes, you can go into the song selection and check songs on or off that you want to shuffle and play. This meant I got rid of most Death Metal as I'm not big into screaming.

I still have no idea what MOBA means. And by Warcraft 3, I'm guessing you mean because of the Heroes?

There is certainly a difficulty jump there since the Goth army works very differently. I remember having quite a bit of trouble the first time you encounter them and then the last encounter with them. Then I went back on Brutal difficulty and trashed them both times.

I really wish I could remember what tactics/approach made the difference.
