No sim since roster expansion? Just checking since I actually exported an expanded roster.

Also, the existence of Brian Burke kinda ... kills my enjoyment of the game. 12 strikeouts? Twelve?

There's two guys with over 300 ABs and another with over 400 ABs with only nine strikeouts, and one's a rookie! Ermahgerd!

Is there a way to find the pitcher with the most strikeouts in one game this year?

Oh f*ck, i'm sorry! I KNEW there was something I forgot Friday night. Apologies, apologies, apologies.

Burke doesn't kill it for me, because I view him the same way people viewed Babe Ruth in his day. A once-in-a-lifetime player, a head above everyone else. I don't know how the game spat out someone THAT good, my only gripe is that he's signed for about $16M less than he's worth.

League Menu>Top Game Performances.

Generally, whoever had the most K's in a game will show up there as one of the best pitching performances of the year. Sure, there's a chance a dude could throw 8 innings, give up 10 runs, walk 7 and get 15 K's... but it's low.

Anyway, new file! As penance for missing Friday, i'll sim Sun-Mon-Tues-Wed this week, so we can get up to the playoffs in speed!

Pittsburgh back in the playoff hunt! This one is going down to the wire, Denver. Try to stop my team of ragtag, b- and c-rated, bad news bear walk-ons!

Holy crap--Portland decided to go on a bit of a roll, huh? 8-2 in their 10 games, or 12-4 in their last 16. We're still going to finish well under .500, but it's definitely an improvement from the .370 finish of last year, and using up pretty much half of the amount of money on player salaries.

It looks like drafting SS Clint Wood last year has been a good move so far, as he has been hitting around .300, able to steal and he's stayed healthy for the whole season.

Next season looks to be pretty bright for the team, I think. Unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible

I hear what you're saying, but he's an even better player than Ty Cobb. He's basically the perfect player, which is why it breaks the game for me a bit. It's the engine's fault, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen too often, but I'm wary.

Eh, I'm with Prederick in the fact that Burke doesn't really break the game for me, either. I mean, the guy puts up silly numbers to be sure, but just because he's doing that doesn't mean San Diego is winning every game or even clinching the division every year. Aside from the crazy batting average, he's actually getting beat by a 2-star player in both Home Runs and RBI's.

I just assume Burke doesn't stay out carousing like the Babe and Ty did back in the day.

If he keeps up the pace, he'll be our first inductee into the HOF?

You can't pull the underdog card, Novocain! At least your team has been to the playoffs!

Just noticed Raul Salazar has a good chance to break the record for most losses in a season. Well at least that is something to look forward to. He's signed for 8mil/year for the next 3 years so hopefully he turns it around. Talk about a bad contract.

Terrible week to hit the skids. Denver is falling apart as we near the end.

Assuming. Injury can stop anyone's career, but he oughtta be a lock for it. Anyway, I'll bet money he's pretty much topped out. Like I said, if you look at the numbers, some of the things Barry Bonds did are absolutely ludicrous. I'd be most concerned if he was matching his batting average with the league lead in HRs and 200+ RBIs. THAT'S broken, to me.

Anyway, new file! And holy hell, Vancouver's snuck back into the playoff hunt. 1 1/2 back behind Pittsburgh, and we have a three game tilt against them to start the week!

EDIT: Whoop! NOW new file!

Dear Gerardo Melendez:
If you could hit LH pitchers worth a sh*t, I would start you every game. As it is, you have to be platooned since, looking up the word 'liability' in the dictionary, I see your batting stats vs LH pitching. Now shut up and play when you get the chance, I cannot trade you now in any case.
Love and kisses,
Jim Nightmare

Denver implosion: continuing.

Don't worry, Portland is always there to make your team feel better.

This is crazy. Very exciting stretch of games in the past few weeks for all the Wild Card teams.

Exciting if your team hasn't just gone 3-11.

What is this "playoff" thing you guys keep talking about? Don't you just start a new season, win 60 games or so, and then wait for the next season to start?

Assuming this is a serious question (I'm posting from my phone and can't see your avatar), division winners and 2 wildcard teams (best record that didn't win their division) from each league play in a series of best-of-seven games. Winners advance until the NL and SL champs play in a "World Series" of sorts.

I don't think it was serious. I know from whence he speaks.

It isn't as bad as it looks with Burke this season. His avg/obp/slg have been on the rise the last few years. Yes, he signed for under market value, but what kid making 440,000 a season wouldn't jump on that deal? If I've learned anything from the past few years, it's that past performance is not a guarantee of future success. I'd bet that deal looks great to San Diego now. We'll see how it looks in a few years.

Side note: He doesn't even lead that many single season or career records. He's played roughly the same length as the leaders, but he doesn't lead in SLG, OPS or VORP.

Side side note: The AI in this game is awful. It fails to put in players that have ridiculous wOBA against a certain handed pitcher for apparently no reason.

Yeah, not being serious. I guess my sarcasm didn't show through on my post. I was making the comment because my team is so awful this year, and last year.

Burke's HR potential dropped 2 points last night to his current number. I'm guessing that all this talk has him rattled. I have no idea really, but it looks to me that the stats that we can see aren't close to the total picture. Some guys obviously outperform their ratings, while others disappoint.

My big FA signing last offseason (Steve something) has done okay this year, but his ratings have fallen hard.

It's too bad we can't try to hire underground pharmacists to keep these aging guys fresh.

New file!

Vancouver is back in the playoffs! At least, for this week.

Uhhh....Portland just won 7 in a row, sweeping both the #2 and #3 teams in the NL East, Pittsburgh and Brooklyn.

It's silly for me to think, but if they stick on this hot streak (we've only lost 5 games in September), would it actually be possible for Portland to make the playoffs? I mean, there is definitely some magic that would need to happen for that to actually happened. I mean Vancouver, Denver, and Pittsburgh would basically have to melt down in the last few weeks of the season.

..A man can dream, can't he? This has been quite an exciting season!

Well, you are pretty much witnessing the big Pittsburgh melt down right before your eyes.
Looks like we picked a bad week to go on a 7-game losing streak. Damn.

Keep hope alive Cpt!

Good week finally, got to even with hated Vancouver (have those two words ever been put together before?) in the loss column. But tough end of the season coming up - 3 game stands against every team ahead of me in the standings

Seattle Rain is turning into a drizzle.

Atlanta has another series against Charlotte coming up soon. Miama is catching up to us in the SL East too.

PINS AND NEEDLES, MAN. PINS AND NEEDLES. *twitches*

Jason Huffman is really crapping the bed in September. I thought he was going to win pitcher of the year, but things have opened up a bit. His ERA has raised by about .7 over the last three or four games.

New file!

So this is it. The final week. Friday's sim will end the season.

Only two teams have qualified for the playoffs so far, namely Seattle and Boston. Just about everywhere else, things hang in the balance. Denver and Pittsburgh are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 games behind Vancouver for the final playoff spot in the Northern League, while just two games separate Atlanta and Charlotte for the top spot in the SL East, and five games between Dallas and San Diego for the top spot in the West. Finally, Miami lurks, just four games behind Charlotte for the final playoff spot, with New Orleans a distant (but not impossible) 5 1/2 out.
