Finished Any Games Lately?

Hired Saints Row Three and bulldozed through the story. Suck out all the juicy middle, leave all that repetitive stuff and this game is a winner.

I just finished Thomas Was Alone (very fun, but also very short).

Good time puzzle platforming.

Finished Dishonored. I have a real love-hate relationship with that game. Fun but sometimes annoying gameplay, and beautiful but sometimes atrocious graphics.

I also just polished off Dishonored. I think on the graphical note... It's more the art style I enjoy. Not super realistic, not super cartoony. It's not approaching the uncanny valley. I think aesthetically, they did a pretty good job making it coherent. The fidelity of the actual graphics (texture resolution, geometry complexity...) is just a sign of how old this console cycle is.

I finished it low chaos and really enjoyed the puzzle aspect of finding out ways to get through the environments, knocking out as many people as possible. I also found it really nice how I had non-lethal options for taking out my targets. The ending was anticlimactic, though.

Spoiler:

I literally jumped up on a wall, blinked behind the final guy, knocked him out, and opened a door. I'm glad they didn't make it a boss fight, but it would have been nice if there was a way to make it like the rest of the marks - find a way to make them suffer without killing them. Maybe there was, and I just missed it? I dunno.

I knocked off the most recent DMC on PC the other day. Really quite enjoyable on all fronts.

Recommend!

Just finished ME3's Leviathan DLC and I must say it is one of the best pieces of DLC I've played. While I could tell where the story was going - the patterns mimicking what had come from the previous installments - it was still quite satisfying. Wish there was more of this stuff in many games.

So Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is done. Liked it. Sometimes loved it, but I still thought AC2 was a better game overall. Up next, finishing XCOM, and another playthrough of ME3 with all the DLC.

With the Great Boston Blizzard of 2013 on the way, I convinced my wife to sit down with me and play through Journey. It was a perfect game for the night, and I want to thank everyone who's been evangelizing it. If it's on your pile or you've been on the fence, just go and play it. It's a beautiful 2 hour experience that doesn't outstay its welcome.

Well, I guess I was closer to the end of XCOM than I expected. That one is done. Got to admit, I loved it, but I feel very little need to replay it for a while.

I played it on Normal (ie, the "not the real XCOM mode"), got really into it, but now it seems like other than increased difficulty and consequences, there's really very few if any bells and whistles left. Definitely going to come back at some point, though. Here's hoping future DLC increases the variety a bit more.

Muton double post.

Finished with Borderlands. Enjoyed it much more than I thought that I would. The Moxie DLC did me in. 94 hours for $7 is my bargain of 2012.

Also, deleted Deus Ex. Didn't grab me so for $2.50, I am not punishing myself.

If you and I ever shake hands in person, the particle/antiparticle explosion would destroy all the games, everywhere, forever.

Just finished up Antichamber. Fantastic game! Great aesthetic, enjoyably challenging and had some really great mind-bending puzzles.

I know. It was crazy and exactly the opposite experience that I expected when I picked up the two games during the same sale.

I am doing my penance with Tropico 3, and soon to be Gangsters.

I've been on a bit of a tear lately (for me). I finished one whole game in 2012, LOTR: War in the North, but that was on December 10, so I'm including it here.

More recently, though I dug back into and finished Bioshock 2 in late January. Really glad that I played that one all the way through. I had set it aside for over a year!

Since then, though, I also started and finished Enslaved!

Those last two games both just hit a sweet spot for me. Excellent games.

So, that's three games down in two months time!

Bulletstorm which is over the top, gorgeous, fun, puerile, and what something like DNF could have been if it had a sense of humor and style. I'm honestly sad to know the sequel was cancelled because it was visually very impressive and a load of fun to boot. A lot of talent at that studio from the Painkiller days, I think some of it went to the studio that did Hard Reset which I loved as well.

Had I played it before the end of last year it would have gone on my less than ten GOTY list because while there were weird things about it (no jumping!) the flaws never got in my way or frustrated me.

I loved Bulletstorm! The mechanics made the game such a blast...oh, wait. No pun intended.

Darksiders 2 Darksiderer which I thought was really quite fun. The mechanics of movement and combat were really quite good (with the exception of janky aiming for ranged attacks which I think is supposed to be hard). The platforming was good, the environmental puzzles were good (I found myself thinking about them after leaving the PC if I got stuck), the combat was great and more varied than the first. The bosses I really enjoyed, though not as much as, say, Dark Souls. The absolute best part of it, just like in Darksiders, was the art! Wow! Vigil had (RIP) serious chops when it came to visual design and creating cohesive looks. I loved the art in this game even though I don't even read comic books which this is styled after! More than the gameplay the art is what drove me forward through the game and the two DLC packs I picked up during the Winter sale.

I do feel it should be noted that the DLC should really only be purchased on sale as they didn't add too much on the whole. Though Abyssal Forge had the best little traversal puzzle in the game, IMO.

Beat Bone: Out from Boneville this weekend. It was alright/meh. I know absolutely nothing about the Bone comics so this didn't really resonate all that much for me. It was interesting to see Telltale's first adventure game, but I think Sam & Max Season 1 was a bit tighter and probably as far back as I'd recommend from their catalog. Going to wait a while before digging into Great Cow Race. Seems more authentic to wait a bit before the next episode, plus I've got bigger fish to fry out of the pile at the moment.

After 101 hours according to Steam (slightly less in game save clock, but I restored old saves a few times) I finally watched the credits roll on Dark Souls.

Seriously, I said it elsewhere, but the gameplay itself is something every gamer owes it to themselves to experience. I didn't know if I'd be able to enjoy this game going into it. Picking it up to me was a huge risk as the only gaming budget I allowed myself since September was whatever was gifted to me. This has been the best $20 game I've picked up. I fell in love about the moment I took out the first boss.

That's too bad, but more or less echoes what I heard about the games elsewhere. Bone is a wonderful comic though, and I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm not sure if you share Demyx's penchant for Disney, but if you do I'd bet that the comic will appeal to you.

This wasn't recently, but I finished Skyward Sword on the Wii and Adventure Time on the 3DS a while back (fun game, but waaaay too freaking short). Currently working on both NSMB2 and Super Mario 3D Land. Among SO many others. What can I say, I have gaming ADHD. XD

Finally wrapped up The Walking Dead (PC), playing episode 4 & 5 yesterday. Episode four dragged a bit, otherwise solid gold all through. For once I'm excited to see the sequel!

My 11 year old daughter reads all of the Bone novels. How would this be for her?

I've been meaning to check out the comics, and now that I know more about the world I'll definitely be doing so.

Over the weekend I finished Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack on the Vita and Paper Mario: Sticker Star on the 3DS.

Finished Tomb Raider: Underworld in time for the reboot. The puzzles were the highlight, minus many times when they left me in the dark. It's either showing me a cut-scene telling me what to do, or leaving what to jump to, or which direction to go, up to me. Most of the time the later was fine. Combat's just there to break up the pacing, and the platforming can be as unruly as Assassin's Creed. Combat may have been the lowest point in the game, but I think the camera was what annoyed me the most. It's amazing what good lighting and shading can do for a game. Sure, I can tell its age by some of the textures, but overall I still think the game looked good. It was good; a solid but forgettable experience.

Blah, I haven't finished a game in like three weeks. Ni No Kuni and Fire Emblem are both sitting at around 40 hours. If I don't finish both in February I will be a sad panda. I'd like to maybe knock out Pokemon Black 2 as well. Maybe an XBLA game to keep up a 4/month pace. Short month though!

Finished mark of the ninja. Didn't really like it, beat as a pacifist avoiding everyone. I generally love stealth games but something about it didn't click sadly.

After catching up on all the holiday GWJ podcasts I was compelled to finish Diablo III at least once. Done. I also finished the Walking Dead, but I'm not sure my heart's made it through yet.

I finished 10000000 yesterday while at work. Feels good to finish a game since I have so little free time to do so.

Just got the thatgamecompany disk, with flow, journey and flower. Beat journey before but flow and flower we're new and good. Journey is still leagues better then either though. It also had some indie jam games on it, nothing great though.
