Now I've got to load up some 80s thrash metal...

Oh man. Meatloaf. You already brought out the big guns. But let me add these:

Audio quality isn't all that great, but I particularly love this rendition because they really put a little drive in it. That show is actually just plain awesome in general.

Meatloaf: 2 out of 3 Ain't Bad

(edit -- replaced with the album track - his voice was thrashed by that point in the concert)

And he's still got it. Meatloaf and Marion Raven: It's All Coming Back to Me

I don't know if this counts as "power", but it's a rocker doing a ballad. KISS: Beth

(this acoustic version is better, musically speaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_9DoYjfSjc)

Nazareth: Love Hurts

Def Leppard - Love Bites

Why does this thread feel like a middle-school dance?

Because we listened to most of this stuff at middle-school dances.

Because you're not doing anywhere near as much groping as you wish you could?

My life could use a little more groping.

Reo Speedwagon - Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore

(Can't find the original video on youtube, so this is a newer concert video. Kevin Cronin's voice has not aged well)

The still used by that video makes him look like Scott Bakula with long blond hair.

WTF?!?! No Aerosmith?!?!?!? What is wrong with you people?!?!?!?

Alicia is so hot.

A little late. They did not defend the marks and copyrights against Blizzard...EVER!

And I have railed against this before. But Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc. roll over backwards to these. The discovery requests that they respond to are insane. Their stock response is, take-down, hurt the small artist, and then let the artist foot the bill in a fight. Imagine if your doctor did that with your health records.

Never?

I'm hoping that the EFF or one of the other legal groups steps in. Or Activision/Blizzard, I guess.

Yeah, the comments start to get pretty punny.

My wife and I are looking at a new Wii game to play together. Top candidates right now are New Super Mario Bros, Super Smash Bros, or Mario Kart- in that order.

Which should we get? I have heard of stories about NSMB leading to divorce.

What kind of games do you like, what games have you played together, and what's her experience level?

Boomblox mostly, some Wii Sports. She is pretty casual and occasional.

If you're looking for something really casual, Big Brain Academy has a nice variety of mini-games that are more puzzle-like than reaction based. Rhythm Heaven Fever is a fun, quirky rhythm game that's incredibly simple to play but difficult to master. My non-gamer wife and I got a lot of mileage out of that one, although we took turns in single-player more than we played the game's two-player mode.

If you want a platformer, I'd recommend Kirby's Epic Yarn or Rayman Origins over New Super Mario Bros. Wii. NSMB is fun, but if your wife isn't much of a platformer player then the way the characters interact with one another can get frustrating fast. That's why it's the divorce game. Kirby's Epic Yarn is really casual and easy but is also cloyingly cute. Rayman Origins is a more challenging platformer but the way they handle co-op makes it more accessible if you have two players with different skill levels.

Rail shooters can also be a lot of fun in co-op. Dead Space Extraction is the best of the bunch, but my wife and I also really enjoyed the Resident Evil games: Umbrella Chronicles and Darkside Chronicles. House of the Dead Overkill might also be to your liking.

NSMB is a hoot if, AND ONLY IF, no-one really cares about completing levels. Therein lies a broken relationship.

I would also suggest that if the skill differential between the two of you is wide (which I'm going to assume it is being you're a Goodjer and she's "casual and occasional"), then Smash Bros and Mario Kart might not be the best choices, as they're competitive.

I might be projecting my own experiences onto you - the wife isn't keen on playing competitive games with me, as there's usually precious little competition to be had, and a whole lotta foregone conclusions. That said, Mario Kart has sufficient rubber-banding built in that it can still be fun.

Have you considered some of the Trauma Team games? They have co-op modes, although I would suggest that you always pick the easier difficulties as they can be punishing on the harder ones.

No my friend. You are the sh*t. The good sh*t. Not the bad sh*t. No one likes the bad sh*t.
