I'll be playing with a few friends on the new PVE Server "Ascension Valley". I did have a 60 Mystic on one of the original servers, but my friends wanted to play on a new server where everyone is starting on even ground. If anyone is interested in grouping or hanging out there, just PM me. I'll be jumping in occasionally (with what free time I get) but the small group will be playing typically Wednesday nights.

Tuesday? I thought it went f2p like a month ago. Or was that just a trial period? Either way, the game is fun but the interface is really busy and it's overwhelming to start at level 20 with around 20 different skills already unlocked. I think I was hoping for a more focused experience rather than a full-on MMO with action-based combat. I may still pop in now and then though.

Supposedly what happens is that the tutorial starts you at a higher level with more abilities to help you get a feeling for the class and the combos. Then I think after the tutorial they strip you of those abilities and levels.

It seems a nice idea in thought for helping you decide on a first class. In practice I have heard lots of WTF?

I thought there was talk of the ability to skip the tutorial. They should at least make it separate like Planetside's test room where you can go at any time into a shooting gallery and test out the wide variety of classes and skills.

you have to go through the tutorial just once and then after that you have the option to skip

I found the tutorial helpful in selecting which class I liked most. I ran it once with every class and picked based upon which one made it through the fastest with the least issues.

I ended up with Sorc and Berzerker and now I don't have to worry about the class turning into something other than what I expected to play.

New trailer:

Does the tutorial include crafting? I hope so...

They opened it up and let people trial it, but the new servers and official F2P rules went into effect today.

So I played a few hours yesterday. Here are some impressions of that with some beta comparisons mixed in.

I created an elf sorceress, human warrior, elf berserker, and castanic archer. The warrior was more fun than I remember but I really like the wide arc swing of the berserker.

The berserker was great in that I didn't have to dance around at all but the cadence of attacks was not too slow once you understand the class though I remember preferring the pacing of the slayer better. Of course the slayer has to dance around more
The sorceress versus the archer is an interesting duel. The sorceress seems slightly more frail at low levels but I know the fun curve ramps higher as they level and get their cool abilities like that devastating slow moving bubble attack.

The archer was actually more fun and powerful than I remember and it was really fun back when I played in beta. But I wager that the fun/power curve is flatter as they level. I believe the archer is shorter ranged than the sorceress and if not, I am playing the class that way. Yet, the archer is able to kill enemies just as they get into melee range whereas the sorceress still has 1/4 or more left to kill depending on criticals. But like I said, I envision the sorceress getting more powerful and more fun at a faster pace than the archer. (who really doesn't need to get more fun btw)

I will say that they need to sprinkle in some areas designed or directed like the prologue (passed the get new equipment back and forth) into the leveling experience. Especially at the early levels, it would make things much less dry. They could be called something like mini-dungeons and is what they should have meant by "westernizing" the mmo.

side note: wow, the lockboxes! Holy cow they are dropping like every 10 minutes. Which is really funny since the cash shop to purchase keys to unlock is not open...

I didn't spend a lot of time with Archer because I grew tired of needing to kite trash mobs. The Sorc at level 27 can kill an entire group of mobs before they get into melee range, and even then, the sorc has a jump back that I bound to Mouse2 (which also slows the enemy).

Low level Sorc did have a bit of running around, but once I figured out two really nice combos which came from skill gain, it's simply 2-3 skills and everything dies. Important to realize that as soon as you start casting, mobs will aggro... So I sleep an entire group, then launch my super fire AoE followed by poison and lesser fireball. By the time the mobs reach me they are DoT'd to death. For BAMs I just keep poison and ice (slowing) on since it's a fast cast.

I am not actively playing due to time constraints, but it was fun when when I did the discovery account option (free to 27).

The Berzerker was definitely up my ally since it's practically a tank, with better DPS.

I figured that was the way things were headed. At what level do things start to change? 10? 15?

Which one is more gear dependant or are they both (or every class for that matter) gimped without it?

For those that are not sure what class to play or want a quick explanation of the story, combat and classes, EnMasse just released this video for you:

I am actually having a ton more fun with the Lancer. It is now my second favorite class. In beta they were so boring. I think they shifted some skills around and beefed up their damage a bit. Their main attack is a 4 hit combo but after the third hit you can combo one of your special attacks that practically takes of half the monster.

Tera (esp since it has gone F2P) has one of the most toxic communities out there.

Global chat will make you literally cringe as the open chat is filled with talk of pedophelia, rape, and other unsavory topics go unchallenged by moderators.

Leveling 1-60 is some of the most repetitive and boring I've ever seen in an MMO.

Engame...what endgame? Once you hit 60, you are abruptly converted from leveling your character to solely leveling your gear on a PURELY slot machine / no progression method which requires incessant mind numbing grind. Sure, they have implemented a "counter" on top of each fail but ask the original players (me being one of them) and the fail rate past +9 is still as ridiculous as ever. This game has the worst carrot on stick with no end in site progression I have ever seen in any MMO.

Nexus is boring and designed purely as grind as are their dungeons.
Q'ing for dungeons is long (esp if you are DPS) and if you aren't all Masteworked +12 get ready to be unceremoniously kicked from the party only to wait for hours to get back in.
Crafting is still broken.
PVP is lame, if you aren't in a premade you WILL lose every single time.

Other than graphics and the novelty of "nonlock on combat" (which in itself grows stale quickly) there is nothing redeeming about this game.

Do yourself a favor and steer clear from this one.

people still pay attention to general chat? After rebinding my keys the next thing i do in all MMOs is change my default window to guild/party/whisper chat only.

This.

Most MMOs the general chat is usually just ridiculous enough that it serves as mild entertainment for me while I wonder around doing peoples inane quests. But in tera I HAD to turn it off because of how disgusting it was. Half of the talk in there is about doing sexual things to that one race (I can't remember what they are called Ellin I think?) ranging anywhere from having sex with them to rape/killing them. I honestly have no idea how this game still exists. In my first half an hour there I read some of the most sexually disturbing things in the chat, things only got worse once I got to the main city.

Now in all fairness most of that chat is centered around the starting area and the main city. The second zone I entered had much less of the toxic talk, I didn't make it that far past lvl20 however. The quest design just got far too boring after awhile.

Brother-in-law wanted to play this game. Made an account on the European server...

I'm now level 15 with a lancer.

Anything I should know?

I played for a short while when it launched. Combat is really fun but mid levels get grindy when you are playing solo.Might have changed since then!

Well, my BIL just told me that we are switching to the Us server. Hope you didn't download everything from Europe.

Sorry about that if you got a download cap.

I'm now level 20 with my Lancer.

I'm playing on Lake of Tears, a pvp server. Got attacked once because of a mistake I made, which is to raise my guard in front of an outlaw.

I'm curious about the first dungeon. Hope to be fun. Well, I'm having fun, as I wanted a f2p type if game which remind me of wow, and this is somewhat it.

Now level 26, and having fun.

Mainly playing solo, as BIL is almost 10 levels higher than me, and he is played at odd hours.

The pvp server I'm on isn't that hard. Well, I'm geared after 2 runs in a dungeon, all blues. Outlaws were kinda surprise at one time. I was soloing a BAM, and almost kill them, before they left, and the BAM ran to them... And I killed the BAM when he ran back to me. Fun time.

Level 30 now, BGs just opened up for me.

What is the needed level to skip tutorial for new character ?

New patch note have dropped.

Major point is "solo" dungeon for me. You have objective for the dungeon specifically tallied to you, which can be made with a group of 1-3.

I still need to try it, but my level is between 2 dungeons in the LFD tool 32-34 (34 ATM).

And I went to a store in my town, and they still had copies of the game. So I now have founder status. Give little perks, that can add up fast with emp...

Yeah I think you get the cool horse with the founder status!

The founder status get me a "light saber" horse. And if you inverse your key, you get a lion... Wicked!

Well, I'm still playing.

I'm now playing on HighWatch. Got a lvl 65 lancer, and 2 between level 50-60.

I'm still having fun, guess it will my go-to mmo for a few more weeks.

The buddyup system is nice, give you and a newcomer some perks. For the one leveling, you get leveling scrolls, which are time on playtime, and for the referee, some items for dungeons, and a chance of a unicorn as a mount. Guess I might post here the updates as they come.

Major Overhaul tomorow, and the old starter island is not a Level 65 hunting ground for BAM.

I just don't like the vanguard quest drops to 3, but we will live with the changes.
