It's time for our first community playdate!

WHEN: Monday, February 4th at 7PM CST, 8PM EST
WHAT: Blacklight Retribution (Free to play, PC)

How do we talk? Ventrillo.

Neat shooter once you figure out the rental system. I'm in. And I might throw in some bucks for decent gear as well. "Muahahah!"

I was never able to get this installed

Haven't played this since launch. I wonder how it has panned out so far.

Calling all clowns. Let's get some fun out of this game.

Just a bumpy bump now that we've announced it on the show.

Cool. I haven't played in at least a couple of months or more. I know they've added at least a game mode or two.

Need to probably update, too.

So how does the economy for this game work? I assume you earn some kind of currency between matches which has a pay equivalent. So how much does it cost to build your own gun or customize armour and stuff?

I haven't played this in a while but I really enjoy it. I shall endeavour to be there!

Should we pre-play this to get some of the upgrades or are we starting clean slate?

I might fire it up a day in advance just to have an idea what I'm getting myself into, but my slate won't be far from clean.

Also, who do we have to blame for this? I vaguely remember a name drop in the CC last night.

It varies, widely. Some items are cheap, base cost, some are not. Are you renting the part for 3 days (real time, not time played)? Cheap. A week? Not so cheap. Buying it permanently? Very not cheap. And that's per part, each gun has several parts, all of which have an impact. Armor is not as complicated, but still expensive.

Can you grind away and buy the same gun parts, eventually, without paying real cash? Yes. Tedious, but doable, the short while I played allowed me to rent the parts I didn't own, and buy a few crucial parts permanently. Yes, that's an LMG reciever stuck in the middle what is mostly a SMG. The game allows it, it suits my playstyle and I had fun with it. Probably confused the hell out of anyone that picked up my frankengun after killing me Oh, ya, that's one of the neat parts of the game, you can try out weapons by snagging them off a corpse and using it until you get killed.

Meeee!

Friendly reminder this is tonight!

I shall be there. We'll have to pay attention to which server we join as many of them are for level 1-10 only.

Argh... I might have to work. Will try my best to make it.

You can filter the restricted servers, so they won't show when you refresh the server list.

Remember to use your wallhax, hit V to turn on the HRV. Only works for a short while, then its offline until the 'battery' recharges.

They've apparently patched it fairly recently to change the bullet deviation mechanics. Supposedly more consistent patterns with less randomness. I've never really enjoyed the gun feel in this game, so maybe that has helped a bit.

I played the hell out of this for a few weeks...hopefully have time to get a game or two in before the insanity starts.

I am downloaded, installed, and ready to roll!

Oh shoot, there's probably a custom patcher to get through after the Steam download finishes, isn't there?

I will try to get there at start. Might be an hour late.

I've downloaded, patched, and registered. Let's do this!

Fun times.

Yeah, it was nice getting back into an FPS and shooting dudes.

Yeah, surprisingly fun, honestly. Wasn't expecting it to be as dialed in as it was.

I thought I was downloaded and ready to go but then ran into their lame patching system. How can they make someone download a 6gb Steam DL then have to download another 6gb patch from their launcher which downloads at a snails pace of 1mb per second?

Looks like a lot of fun. But I already have money invested in PS2 and I only have time for one major FPS sadly.

This one is easy to play with no money at all. The rental system is very reasonable (you can pay for a 1 day gun rental in about 2 rounds).

I'm disappointed that I got behind in the Conference Calls and missed this playdate, as I have recently become marginally addicted to Blacklight: Retribution. If anyone genuinely enjoyed playing and wants to continue, send me a friend request in-game (harbichidian).
