Japan GWJ Slap and Tickle

Fellow expats in Japan, we must talk and all that.

With the 10 year anniversary post bringing out the GWJ love, I got to thinking that it would be nice to have a chance to meet some of the Goodjers living here in Japan. And I was wondering if there were any interest in a S&T sometime this year?

Not really sure where everyone is or where the best place to have such a thing would be. I'd assume Tokyo would be most central. If the numbers ended up being few, I could possibly host one here on Sado (though that might be too much of a trek for most of you).

First, though, I guess we should test the waters and see if a Japan S&T has any interested parties. Then we could figure out a place and time.

Osaka is most central of course :p. Are there really that many of us? I would have assumed 3 or 4.

I live in Yamagata. My biggest problem is timing. We've people suddenly quit the company (and then I got sick!) so free time isn't exactly something I have in spades.

I am interested, though.

Yamagata, I can't even imagine. Are you shovelling your way to school everyday?

So far this winter we've had one day where there was a centimetre of snow on the ground.

Osaka or Kyoto would be nice, even Nagoya. I'm not a big fan of Tokyo. As for free time, I'm fairly sure I could free up a weekend sometime.

I haven't been to Osaka in ages. I miss it. But Yamagata would be a long haul. Any Goodjers in Kanazawa? That'd be a central location so far...from Yamagata to Osaka. Whereabouts are you, Trainwreck?

And ya, this is kinda a long term thing. My schedule revs up around April,May, and June, then the summer is normal, then it revs up again around the end of September and October.

Could've sworn there were a couple more Goodjers in Japan, though.

I live in Kanazawa, so obviously that would work for me.

It was worse last year. I'm from Canada so a harsh winter is not out of the ordinary for me.

Pretendbeard, mie. me too, im up near Yokkaichi, yourself ?

West side of the prefecture. And even if I wasn't, I'd still take one of the Kansai cities over Nagoya, to be honest.

If I really had my way, however, then I'd have everyone travel to Biagura in Ise. I can't see that being the most middle-ground of locations, however, although I don't know of any other restaurant in Japan that has a sub-2000 yen nomihodai of on-site brewed craft beer...

So I think that's 6 of us so far?

I actually had a really nice summer in Ise 2 1/2 years ago. Loved that Ise udon and Matsuzaka beef.

For a 2000 yen craft-brew nomihodai, I'd travel to Ise.

So far, we have

Me
Vector
Mr. G T Chris
Trainwreck
Brownypoints
PretendBeard

We can do this!

So cool you guys are doing this =)

Wait... I've potentially sold some people on this?

Sweet!

A friend of a friend (havent met the guy yet) is running Roleplay and Boardgames Festival 2013 in TSU on the 2nd and 3rd of March , near ISE (40min by train)
If the friend I know is going I will tag along and meet these guys, I think its an all welcome kind of event.

*for all I know these guys could be some of you guys!

Oh, that's pretty cool. Would love to go, but it's a bit too soon for me to make plans.

As far as a date goes, should we shoot for International GWJ Day? That's usually around the 3rd to last week in October, yeah?

Meeting places suggested so far:

Ise (2000 craft-brew Nomihodai)
Osaka (...um, it's Osaka!!)
Kanazawa (midway between Yamagata and Osaka, all of us are between these 2)
Nagoya

TSU

Why this is happening in Tsu, I don't understand. You can't spell tsumaranai without Tsu...

Or so the locals say, anyway.

GWJ peeps aside, although I may not be among them, I do know of some people who might be interested in this. Might pass it on.

I only get to know my schedule about a month prior so I have very idea how free I am on a given weekend. I usually get Sundays and Mondays off but that could change drastically in April.

I'm not a big fan of board games. I am a big fan of craft beers. I am also a big fan of nomihodai. Combine those things and I will be a very happy man.

I'm liking this love for the Ise idea.

Also, bumping this because we should probably try and gague if this is actually an appealing enough thing for enough people, and also try and set a future-flung time and date (which may have to be lunch time-ish, as it seems not everyone gets weekends off and I assume that nobody likely wants to be stuck in Mie on a Sunday night.)
