Ascension (iOS) Gaming League (New Tourney starting Jan 14, 2013!)

Ever have one of those CotG/RotF games that goes Mechana-perfect? You snag the first one, and everything cascades beautifully from there - regardless of what your opponent does, more constructs keep coming up, all working in wonderful symphony?

Ever been the other guy in that game?

(Super-secret translation: I don't think I'm going to win game 3 against ironcub. ;))

Just had one. Bliss.

It's the only time I eye the Forfeit button longingly. Or the window.

Hahaha, guilty as charged. You know what it really was, I had an awesome opening round with two banishers off the bat and that honestly allows anybody to go with any strategy they like. I will always argue that there is a huge first turn advantage in this game, when the first player gets first dibs at a fresh row of six cards..

Great great games Chumpy! I definitely see why they call you the witch

Apologies to Jon and the tourney. I forgot to switch my decks up, so the match we have almost done won't count. Hopefully we can make up for it today, considering the Superbowl.

Oh! I jumped on just now because I saw you had sent me another invite before we had finished game 1, with a different set of decks, so I wanted to see what was up. I didn't realize we were playing with the wrong set (SoS + RoTF, instead of CoTG + RoTF) for game 1.

So yeah, I guess the current game we have almost done won't count. Not that I'm heartbroken, since I feel like you have something like a 15-20 point lead on me in our current game!

Maybe we can catch each other online and blast through our 2-3 remaining games in real time? I'm generally best available for that kind of thing between 9:30 and 11:30pm EST.

Bad estimation skills on my part, as the doesn't-count "game 0" with Cyrax and I ended up a very tight 92-90 in my favor. I had underestimated how many points I had managed to bring into my own desk to offset Cyrax's 20-something lead in victory tokens from defeating monsters.

Bring on the real game 1!

Just finished two fine games with TorqGWJ. I won both, the first being a Construct-heavy blowout 125-74, and the second being a much closer 63-52.

Good games!

Indeed, thanks for the games.

The first was just one of those where nothing came together for me and it felt like everything came together for you

I'm surprised game 2 wasn't closer, but looking back at my deck I see I spent too much time focusing on voiding cards, while you were ensuring the game was ending quickly so I couldnt bring my slim deck to bear quick enough.

Sounds good, game on!

That's exactly what I did. I saw that I didn't have crap in my deck and you did in yours, and therefore I had to shut the game down before your deck gathered steam. A bevy of center monsters helped that happen, whoever managed to kill them.

Ugh. Beat oil 83-60 first game but lost the second 59-56. On to game 3!

MUDBUNNY!?!?

Bugger! That last one was a nail biter! I was optimistic, but thought it was yours. You took that last Monster card I wanted and it was all over, just couldn't boost my deck value enough.

Good game! 60-54.

And I take the rubber match with m0nk3yboy by a score of 60-54. Right from the start, it became clear that this was a race for monster-killing. It was pretty close the entire game.

Awesome games m0nk3yboy!!

I will update Challonge later.

Good game! 60-54.

It was the monster that let me grab another monster at no cost that tipped me just over the edge.

Challonge results entered.

GGs, Red.

If no one minds, I believe I will now take my shirt off in celebration and whip it around and around above my head.

Well. Things started happily enough, when I beat sirjoekcb in our first match, 75-69. They went downhill in the second when he crushed me 104-73 beneath a Mechana juggernaut, and in the third game he acquired Muramasa early to feed a power strategy that won the game for him 65-56. The round goes to him -- GGs, sir!

shoptroll and I finished our games:

Game 1: Apollo0507 109- 105 shoptroll
Game 2: Apollo0507 67- 60 shoptroll

Great games, both were very close and came down to the last move, shoptroll you definitely know how to move through your deck quickly and you grabbed some powerful cards early and seemed to have a clear edge, I got lucky that monsters showed up at the end, otherwise, you would have swept me. GG, sir.

Cyrax, ugh... that was physically painful just now when you had 5 runes and a bunch of military on the board, and you turned up Xeron, Duke of Lies to steal a Mystic from my hand to gain enough runes to grab the 6-point mechana construct I was about to buy! Awesome play. That turn buried me.

Cyrax goes on to take game 1 in a runaway, 95-64. On to game two!

Yeah, that was a fine game. If those monsters wouldn't have kept turning up, you would've had me. Nice defense, I was annoyed the many times you banished those ugly things.

Thanks! I noticed in the second match that the center wasn't being very rune friendly and pivoted to monster fighting late. Snagging Adayu out of the void was fun, but not enough to decide the match At least I picked up a couple RotF achievements out of the matches. Good luck with the next round!

@oilypenguin, I reopened our match. If you recall, I asked for my opponents to let me report the score so I could control when the next round kicks in.

Well player, sir. I destroyed that first game, let that second game get away from me at the last second, and then absolutely mismanaged the destruction you unleashed upon me.

Edit: D-d-d-d-DOUBLE POST! I'll edit this and post the results of our next game here in a little while, if Cyrax is still around tonight to finish our remaining game(s) in realtime.

Update: Military continues to carry the day, as my military + self-banishment + card draw deck slew lots of monsters on the way to a 84-65 victory. Time for game 3!

And the second game was the inverse.

After seeing Avatar of the Fallen (7 - defeat or acquire any card for free) and Sammael the Fallen (8 - 8 points) sit on the table for a long time and managing to spam my deck with Heavy Infantry to defeat them before Cyrax could -- and getting the "You must be Aaron!" (?) achievement in the process -- Cyrax still handled me easily with a very strong card-drawing engine, 84-66, and wins the match, clinching a finals spot, I believe.

Nice games! That last one felt grueling for me -- trying to play catch-up the entire game -- so I bet it was pretty enjoyable for you.

All the games were fun! GGs

I sent you a friendly match. I look forward to more smart games with you.

I won the first game with Justin. Invite sent to the second.

I lost the second game to il dottore via timeout. I think he is in Europe somewhere if I remember right, and I was traveling this week so could not play turns during the day and I guess our schedules just did not line up.

That's a pity! I was surprised when I saw you had timed out. And yes, I'm in Europe (Sweden).

Maybe we should pretend this match never happened and play again? Don't know if there's time for that though...

Thanks for the offer but nah, fair is fair.
