You Know You Love the Pile

Pages

Is that the sweet, musky scent of pile games wafting in from over yonder way? Why, I believe it is.

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Dark Souls

IMAGE(http://media.edge-online.com/wp-content/uploads/edgeonline/oldfiles/33657DARKSOULS_008.jpg)

"Prepare for a new, mysterious story, centered around the world of Lodran, but most of all, prepare to die. You will face countless murderous traps, countless darkly grotesque mobs and several gargantuan, supremely powerful demons and dragons bosses. You must learn from death to persist through this unforgiving world. And you aren’t alone. Dark Souls allows the spirits of other players to show up in your world, so you can learn from their deaths and they can learn from yours. You can also summon players into your world to co-op adventure, or invade other's worlds to PVP battle. New to Dark Souls are Bonfires, which serve as check points as you fight your way through this epic adventure. While rested at Bonfires, your health and magic replenish but at a cost, all mobs respawn. Beware: There is no place in Dark Souls that is truly safe. With days of game play and an even more punishing difficulty level, Dark Souls will be the most deeply challenging game you play this year. Can you live through a million deaths and earn your legacy?" (preparetodie.com)

I believe I just finished Ego Draconis this morning, so my plan is to power through Divine Divinity 2: Flames of Vengeance (PC) while I'm still kinda digging the world. The edges, they are rough. The powers, they are poorly balanced.

Gravity Rush and Dead Space 2 for me.

I'll be working on The Last Story (Wii) and Tales of the Abyss (Multi). Thanks, Hemi!

Put me down for Bone: Out from Boneville (PC) again, and Bioshock (PC). I should be able to blast at least one of those from the pile unless Ni No Kuni distracts me.

Okay, put Amnesia: The Dark Descent (PC) and Legend of Grimrock (PC) on the list for me again. We'll see if I can stay focused on them. I don't know why I have to work up so much resolve to return to those games. I enjoy them when I'm playing them, but when I go to fire them up initially, I always know that I won't be able to get away without dropping 5 hours of sweat and tension on the table. Strange how I can sometimes love and dread a game at the same time.

Oh, and I started The Witcher (PC) as well. So we'll see how that goes. Hasn't grabbed me yet, but I've only gone through the opening sequence so far.

Put me down for Sleeping Dogs and Alan Wake.

Let me know if you want this one listed.

Sleeping Dogs is great. I never finish any sort of open world/GTA style game and I finished this one. That speaks volumes.

Yes, please list The Witcher (PC) for me.

Finishing up Outland (PS3). I'd say I have 2.5 hrs left for the story, and a little more for completion, which I like to do in metroidvanias.

Tackling Tomb Raider: Underworld (PC) before the new game.

Yeah I'm about 6-7 hours in so far and really enjoy it whenever I get to play. I just keep getting distracted by other games.

For me this will be a month of adventures! I'm going to work on completing a bunch of different adventure games that I had previously started, or, at least as far as steam shows me, I have installed. They are all for the PC only ( as far as I know ). If I finish all of these, and I make no promises on the order I complete them, I will see if I stick with the theme when I add more here

Jolly Rover
Sherlock Holmes: The Silver Earring
Samorost 2
Ankh: Heart of Osiris
Still Life
Puzzle Agent

List me for Dark Souls (360) and Skyrim (360) please, trying my damndest to finish one or the other here.

Carry over Skyrim for me. I'll be playing on the PC, but it's multi-platform, of course. I'm also near to beating Fairway Solitaire (iOS... or is it multi-platform?), and I'll join Cragmyre playing Puzzle Agent (Multi-platform; I'll be playing it on a Mac.)

I don't expect to finish Skyrim, but I expect to make progress.

Put me down for Tales of the Abyss as well. Also finally getting back into King's Bounty : Crossworlds (aka Armoured Princess with some extra content attached).

This month is gonna make up for last month. I'm in for Dark Souls (PC/Multi), Kirby's Epic Yarn (Wii), & Infamous 2 (PS3).

The only game I'm not over 1/2 way through is infamous, but seeing as how it's a PS+ game, I'm imposing pile progress there as I don't want to hit the end of my subscription and have games I want to play hanging out, so I'm going to keep making efforts to stay on top of those games. I may declare another PS+ game if all goes well this month.

Where are you in Dark Souls? I'm at nearly 70 hrs (about 4 areas sans DLC) and still have at least 10-15 left from what I gather at my current rate.

I'm gonna knock out Amnesia for PC as well.

I've played a few minutes of this and enjoyed what I played but haven't gotten back around to it. It looks like it's about 8-9 hours so I'll add Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on PC since that's a different play style and will give me something to break up playing all the FPS style games.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Still Life when you get there. That's been on my pile for a long time.

I'm carrying over the Trine 2 Goblin Menace DLC from last month. I got distracted by The Cave and Path of Exile so I didn't get to it until last night and I only got halfway through.

I'm also going to play Bioshock sometime this month. I've tried to play it twice before but got distracted by shiny new things both times. I'm hoping to both games before the new one comes out at the end of March.

Fixed.

Hmmm..... I'll have to pick something meaty after contemplating my pile, but for now put me down for New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS).

Put me down for Deus Ex please. I'll probably knock out one or two smaller games this month as well, but I want to focus on that.

Still picking away at Darksiders. Getting grindy around 9 hours in, but there's not much of the map left, so I may be able to get through. Also picked up and started Bulletstorm, that seems doable this month and I'll also actually fire up Analogue: A Hate Story this month.

Well, if that's a distraction then so is sleeping.

I'd love to hear how it works for you. I've had it on my pile for many years, and I tried playing it on Vista 64 maybe 5 years ago. It ran, but was unplayable. Maybe there's been a fan made patch or workaround since? I think it was audio and interface issues.

Major pile failure for me last month. I'm gonna be conservative and only re-pledge Spec Ops: The Line (PC/multi) - I'm about 2 hours from the end, I think - and Bastion (PC/multi) - AGAIN!

Gaming time/energy has become a very rare commodity the past few months

Trine 2: Goblin Menace DLC
Defense Grid: The Awakening. (played it quite a bit already, just need to finish it up)

Having an account on Path of Exile, playing TF2 and actually wanting to learn more of Awesomenauts and Dota2...
I don't dare to add more for this month.

Carrying over from Jan is The Last Story (but I'm at the end, just have to defeat the last boss!) and fortune cookie for Feb says... Wait for it... Little King's Story! For the Wii.

That was quick. I'm done with the Trine 2 DLC. I wasn't really impressed. I mean, it was good but it wasn't nearly as good as the two main games. Lots of situations where I near how to move on but finicky garbage was getting in the way of executing it.

Speaking of "that was quick"...I'm finished with Samorost 2. If I had known it was so short, I would have snuck it in yesterday It was cute, a bit pixel hunty, but not too bad. Machinarium was a ton better though.

I'm going to shoot for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood this month.
