Giant Bomb Bomb-All

'Tis a shame it's not working for some people, as this past week has been a boon of subscriber content.

On about the 8th attempt on my home connection, I managed to get Jar Time downloaded which was nice to play on the TV through my PS3 yesterday while I house cleaned. Oddly, the How to Make a TNT came in on the first try. That was a fascinating watch as someone who is trying to get into video stuff some more. I have not yet been able to get the Unprofessional Friday video to download more than half way. I love burning a gig of my bandwidth allotment for the month with each attempt though! My next attempt to get help is to PM Dave Snider and barring that, Jeff, Ryan and Brad.

Oh, man. Oh, man. NSFW.

There's a couple more, it seems.

Okay, that made my morning--thanks Blind!

Wow, that was quite a thing.

You can't stop the endurance run!

I love their portrayal of Morooka; it gets me every time

How far are they into the game in terms of what the anime has portrayed? I want to watch these, but without spoiling the game where I currently am.

They played the entire game more or less. They played the PS2 version but you could just stop watching when you've caught up.

I would say that where the current persona 4 x giant bomb episode ends is still fairly early on. If you're past yukiko, then you're safe to watch. If not, then good god man, drop everything and go play more of this fantastic game!

I'm past

Spoiler:

Nanako getting kidnapped

What the I don't even...

Also, I know I'm in the minority and I can choose not to watch them and etc. etc. but dammit, I was really glad Giant Bomb never went down the crappy rabbit hole of covering mobile stuff but they seem to have. On the podcast, they all talked about how they don't even really like Kingdom Rush but there's a quick look of it. I has a sad for this.

I agree on the iOS stuff. It doesn't really bother me, but it's not content that I'm excited about, or at least not for now. I expect that we'll have a few months of unnecessary videos while Brad's excitement over the wide world of iOS apps cools off, and it will eventually taper down to occasional bits of quality content.

And to be fair, it's not like there are a ton of other games to cover right now. That will change next month.

Also, I'm almost finished the latest Bombcast. Is it me or were they like crazy cynical this week? Curious why that is.

Yes, perhaps more than usual. But they did manage to remind me how much I loved Fire Emblem, and how sad I am that I don't own a Nintendo handheld anymore.

Crap... Tokyo Crash Mobs + Fire Emblem is making a really strong case for getting a 3DS.

I don't mind iOS coverage at all as long as they temper it, which I have faith they will do. I've had a 3DS for a while now, and sadly, there are still more worthwhile games to play on my phone than my Nintendo system ATM. Thankfully, that may be changing shortly.

Kingdom Rush is better than every 3DS game I've played but one or two. I don't see an issue with occasional iOS quick looks of the standout games.

Edit: also, Brad is wrong about Kingdom Rush balancing and economy. I got every star before they ever put in the consumable system. It was hard as balls on the last several stages, but it was doable, and it would have been much less enjoyable if the whole game was only moderately challenging. Man up, you wimp.

It doesn't worry me that much to be honest. The fact is that iFruit is a massive market now, so I think it's in their best interests to cover it.

The only reason I don't care is that I don't have an iFruit device.

On the Swery directors cut, it's all the footage from when the translator was translating... I laughed a lot at this video, the music fits perfectly.

I think they probably have to produce X amount of content, and the well is pretty dry... look at all the indie stuff they've been showing the past few weeks as well. I feel like the output has increased (QLs and the like) since last year.

Patrick saying character agnostic in this week's podcast over and over.

Mobile games have become far more complex over the past few years, with the better ones rivaling the depth and presentation muscle of many dedicated handheld titles.

I don't see why they shouldn't be covered.

Mostly because every other gaming and tech site on the Internet is doing so already, usually at the expense of other coverage. I was hoping Giant Bomb would let those carry the mobile gushing.

As for the mobile games rivaling the depth of dedicated handheld titles, do you have any examples? Not being snarky, I'd love to check some of these out cause they definitely aren't the ones getting all the sales and coverage. I love the potential of mobile gaming, I just really don't care for much of what's making headlines and sales charts right now. So far at Giant Bomb, they've covered Kingdom Rush (yet another tower defense game) and Hundreds which is actually pretty cool but got old for me fast and is also apparently based on a 4 year old flash game. And Brad's talked a lot about Sword & Sorcery and well, I'll just keep my opinion of that to myself because stating it always starts an argument.

Battle of the Bulge on iPad.

Not to start this again, but I don't think a touch screen lends itself well to complex inputs. Part of why it's easier / more fun to play FFT, Fire Emblem, etc. on a GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. is because those systems have controls and make your intentions to the game more clear and quick and precise. I don't honestly think that, outside of a few examples that work better with a touch screen, mobile games will ever have the same *potential* depth.

The problem I have with handheld games, at least DS and PSP games is that they either aren't handheld friendly, I.e. I end up playing them the couch, or they are just crappy versions of console games. At least games on my phone, even if they are throw away experiences like tower defense or Temple Run, are generally cheap and don't require me to bring another device along.

New site going live 2-12. Among the changes:

Along with everything else, we are changing our video hosting provider. This should fix a lot of the slowness people have witnessed with our videos in the past six months. We'll be testing this on the beta site in a couple days

This is an amazing Bombcast.

I would say it's about damn time (and it is) but for reasons I cannot explain, the problems I've been having with videos cutting off early vanished on Sunday. Whether at home or the office, everything both works and is even faster than it was before. Hopefully the new host improves things further.

Haven't started the Bombcast yet but this has got to be in the top 5 longest and 3.5 hours. Given how few releases there have been lately, I'm curious what they have to talk about for so long. Please don't be iOS games...

If it's like any other bombcast, nothing to do with games...

I'm 1 hour in. So far it's been discussion on what constitutes "dip" when eating chips & dip, Fast & Furious movie canon and Super Bowl shenanigans. There's been one sentence spoke about Dead Space 3 so far and that's it

I was going to mention something but yeah, I can watch subscriber content again now. Unprofessional Fridays are the best!

So uh.... I guess that Giant Bomb relaunch is not going so well for them. Site being down and all.

Guess I'll have to skip over to their youtube channel for my daily quicklook fix...

EDIT: Looks like its supposed to be down for a bit. They're still live streaming that new Aliens game right now.
