Grand Theft Auto V

As a spring release I was much more interested in this than I am as a fall release. I was hoping for April since that is usually a gaming dead zone.

September is also a dead zone, I'm just glad they didn't go for October or November like they usually do.

Interesting note that might be related but Kotaku has posted a teaser from Sony hinting that on the 20th of February they'll be announcing something. From the looks of it, they might be announcing the Playstation 4.

Yea I think they are just trying to beat Microsoft to the punch here. I have my doubts about them being able to release anything this year. Not even sure they should try with the state they are in. And I am hoping the new Xbox will release in September to make it a bit easier to score around Christmas time. Though no matter when it launches I do plan to get one day one since I have never done that before.

Do you think with the GTA V delay, and the PS4 announcement, that it could now be a next gen launch title? It seems weird to spend $100+ million on one of the top franchises, and launch the same quarter as new consoles and not be available on them. It will clearly be available on PS3 and 360, but it seems like it would be leaving money on the table if they didn't get put it out on PS4 and/or Xbox(3). If I were Sony or MS I'd be willing to put up big bucks for a next gen timed exclusive at launch.

I wonder if i should finish 4

New screenshots released, here are some of the more interesting ones:

Looks pretty awesome, depending on how much post-processing was done on the screenshots.

Hope it has more... eh.. personality (or something?) than GTA4.

Heh, I know it won't look that good on my machine.

Yeah, from my memory they always seem to do quite a lot of post-processing.

The word that springs to mind is bullshots.

The first Michael video is so Sopranos it hurts. That's some blatant Tony storyline lifting.

The model fidelity, particularly the faces, looks like it's running on next-gen hardware. I wonder if the game will see a 360/PS3/720/PS4 release?

Looks awesome so far.

Lots of the GTA games have lifted stories from other places. It wouldn't be a new thing.

I don't know if it's me or Rockstar, but I loved the GTA III games and I could not be more disinterested in GTA V.

I would pay a lot of money for a return to Vice City. A lot of money.

I'm gleeful.

Having only played GTA4 and its expansions, I'm excited for GTAV.

You can, you can buy it on IOS, you can buy it on Steam, you can buy it from Rockstar, you can buy the soundtrack, you can buy the collection CD, you can buy it on PS2, you can buy it on Xbox, and as soon as you finish all these purchases you've spent a lot of money on your return to Vice City. Enjoy.

Personally I'm sorta upset they even went back to Los Santos, I'll grin and bear it and probably enjoy GTA V, but I really hope the next GTA is in an entirely new city that we've never seen before.

Assuming they've been working on GTA5 since they finished off the expansions to 4, I think I'll be half grey haired by the time we see GTA6.

I've played every GTA (except the GTA IV expansions) to date, but haven't finished a single one. It's not for lack of trying, it was the 'mission failed, start over' part that made me quit everytime. Regardless, I'm excited for V.

On a side note, I did finish RDR (thanks to the checkpoint system).

The expansions for 4 added checkpoints, thankfully.

Hell, they explicitly quote the first heist from Heat in that first trailer. It's kind of part of the charm with GTA. I just hope it features less endless driving around miserable relatives explicitly spelling out the themes and never shutting up about titties than GTA IV.

I just have to post this...

I'll just borrow this from RPS...

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a game trailer so perfectly articulate ‘These are the three types of people we are trying to make our money from’. Kudos, PR. You know your sh*t.

The trailers are probably running on the unannounced PC version.

Yeah, that's a reasonable assertion.

The thread over at GAF has a lot of .gif loops from the trailers that highlight the next-gen nature of the presentation levels. The lighting engine, reflective surfaces and draw distance during some police-chase clips look as though they simply can't be done on current-gen consoles when you factor in the sandbox nature of the game.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but next-gen GTA V port sure would be a system seller in my house, even if it were a cross platform current/next-gen release. The fidelity and direction in those trailers was just fantastic.

I'm officially somewhat excited. If they fix the tonal problems from GTA IV and just make it a comedy/satire (and finally learn that if GTA IV was a serious dramatic film, it would be one of the worst serious dramatic films in history), it could be great.

I am kind of tired of the formula, but at the same time I haven't played GTA in a long time. Any word on multiplayer for this? The multiplayer in 4 was fun for a brief period once I had gotten a crew together.
