3DS Catch-all

Yeah, I didn't read "allergic" as an insult either. I did, however, find it an oversimplification and hand-waving away of a legitimate concern.

[edit]And hey, we're all happy (mostly, I hope!) 3DS owners here, so it's not like any of us are slagging off on the system either.

Yeah, the 3DS is fine. I could take or leave the 3D, but otherwise it's a DS 2 and I liked the DS. Fire Emblem signals the beginning of the kinds of games I liked on the DS. I purchased my first Layton game last weekend and have really enjoyed it so far. I'm looking forward to Advance Wars, Warioware, etc. I'm generally a fan of the 2nd tier Nintendo franchises. The strategy games, Warioware and other games like that.

At this point all I want on my 3DS is Fire Emblem and the new Phoenix Wright. Thankfully one of those is forthcoming.

Isn't the next Phoenix Wright the crossover with Layton?

Ace Attorney 5!

Yep, that's the one. Come on, US release date announcement!

It's funny, outside of my aforementioned reservations with 3D character models in Fire Emblem I really dig the fully animated models in many of these games. I don't know if most Professor Layton games were like this, but the fully voiced anime scenes in between the puzzle were a joy as opposed the usual text-only + profile style of dialogue. Watching Layton and the kid (still new to this series) walk around the city made it more alive for me.

This is the part where I hope Nintendo continues to split the difference on what the 3DS *can* do and what it *should* do. Enhance the presentation ever-so-slightly, but still give me the core gameplay.

Each game in the series has added more and better cutscenes. They are an absolute joy.

Why is Fire Emblem coming out on a Monday? Nintendo always launches games on Sundays.

Mind games! It's the only explanation!

Mind games? Is that the new Brain Age title?

No, that's Brain Age: Concentration Camp.

It's not announced for North America or Europe yet, but Nintendo of Japan is releasing a downloadable tool that lets you transfer your saved games from cartridges to digital versions. So, you could transfer your Mario Kart 7 data off the cart and into an eShop version.

That's nice, I really like features such as this. Vita can do this too, and it's the reason why I was willing to buy things digitally on sale simply to not have cartridges to deal with anymore. Once the unified accounts roll out, I'd be happy to drop my Theatrhythm and New SMB 2 cartridges for digital versions.

Hmmm, that's really tempting especially for evergreen titles like those and Mario Kart 7. Of course, you have to then double dip for the eShop version...

Yeah, but you can get some trade-in for the cartridges, especially with how much Nintendo and Square games hold their value. This is why I trade in to Amazon now, you get Amazon credit which goes towards anything. I did this on Vita when PS+ rolled out, and I suddenly got free copies of Uncharted and Gravity Rush. Worked out perfectly.

Yeah. I don't mind double-dipping. This is potentially exciting assuming it reaches the US.

FYI - The 3DS XL is on sale at Best Buy right now for $170.

That's a great deal. That's the price I paid for mine and I was really happy with it at that price.

Holding out for a white/black model.

Actually I'd really like to play Fire Emblem on that nice big screen.

Red 4 Life.

Entertaining article from Wired about the love/marriage system in Fire Emblem: Awakening. Next week can't come soon enough.

3DS games are getting their own threads now. So grown up... /wipes away a tear

Aw hell yeah. There's the Nintendo I've been missing.

Gorramit. Gonna have to buy a 3DS sooner or later, aren't I.

Aw, you mean I've been learning Japanese for nothing?
