Thanks, we'll see. I have to take it easy for 4 weeks and if it doesn't improve it's off to the orthopedic surgeon and MRI.

Ugh, that sucks!

Sequential updates are so annoying.

I tried to play a game on the PS3 for the first time in a while. But instead of playing that game, I'm watching it download and install 13 total updates, very slowly, one at a time.

Why not make one complete update for those who need it?

I hate having what I can only assume was a form of panic attack or nervous breakdown in the middle of the night. Add to that weeks of boredom, solitude, and feeling stuck in a dead end job in fast food, and there's my life right now.

The short reason is because you wouldn't be making one update for those who need it, you'd be making many more updates. When the first patch comes out, you write one patch. When the next one comes out, you write 2. One to go from unpatched to 2, one to go from 1 to 2. When the next patch comes out, you write 3. One to go from 0-3, one for 1-3, one for 2-3. And so on...

It's way too much to maintain and really introduces potential new bugs. Guaranteeing everyone's code goes through the same upgrade process is more stable and significantly easier.

Edit: What they should have done is not told the user this is what's happening. They should download and install them all sequentially but display it as one download and one install. Everyone wins.

That is, until an Xbox user comes on and mentions how game updates never take longer than 12-15 seconds, and system updates are rare and quick.

Yeah, you will have a lot fewer patches when the devs have to pay for all of them after the first.

Update: Little Big Planet 2: Special Edition took FIVE HOURS to update before I could play it tonight. Ridiculous.

I haven't played a game in three weeks.

Running updates for three weeks?!? So you haven't turned on your PS3 since what, 1998? :p

My calendar is shared and visible to the entire company, and there's a link in my signature to a service that shows my free/busy and let's you book a meeting with me.

I will drive to Jersey and do dirty nasty things to your house if you ask me one more time "when are you free (to do me a favor)?"

It's 30 degrees colder this morning than it was yesterday, and it's not going to get warmer for a while.

I was laid off today.

Can't say I'm shocked by it but it still hurts. The company I worked for had a lot of idle workers in place (to show we had resources) trying to get contracts for work. I'm no business genius but you can't run a profitable company for long like that. Really sucks to work in anything manufacturing related right now.

So anyone looking for a jack of all trades that had experience in CAD Design or Geospatial Intelligence?

That sucks, man. Best of luck with the hunt.

Some girl's Buick decided it was a dragon last night behind me on the highway.

Well, at least you can joke about it. Now, if I ever get rear ended, that's gonna be the first thing that pops into my head.

In *Legion*-vision, I got rear-ended by an underage Mexican girl, but not in a good way.

At least she had her license and insurance, and waited for the cops to show up. Need a new bumper, though.

So sorry to hear that, buddy.

If I had known about this before I made plans to go to DC maybe.

Yes, that is ridiculous regardless of implementation.

Aw sh*t

Sorry to hear that mate :/

Well f*** it.

I'm a moron.

Today, I emptied the ashes out of the fireplace. Into a paper bag. Then I left that paper bag on my back deck. Which is made of wood with a waterproof coating over it.

You can guess what happened, right? Yup. Ashes were still hot, and now I have a 6 inch wide scorch on my back deck, right outside the sliding door off the kitchen, that burnt through the waterproof covering, and has revealed bare (and slightly scorched) wood below.

Goddamn it.

Subsequently, I have ordered a metal ash bucket which will now live next to the fireplace.

If it makes you feel any better my dad once poured what he thought were cold ashes into a giant construction skiff that was parked in our courtyard. Roaring flames that were visible over the three story walls and totally made me miss an episode of Lucky Luke!

My dad, a guy from the projects in northern Jersey, upon moving to Missouri decided he should burn the grass in yard rather than mow it. This sent our yard and 3 of our neighbor's yards on fire. It was terribly embarrassing.

For some reason he did the same thing the following summer.

I hate when technology fails... computer system at work crashed or something today, so orders had to get relayed to the grill by the service crew for a while. To say it was hectic and crazy would be an understatement. Never realize how reliant on a piece of tech you are until it dies...
