PAX East 2013!

Oh lord... we had our last S&T a few doors down from the Tam. It's right by where I went to grad school, so I know it well. I also have a friend who's actually been kicked out of the Tam, something I didn't think was possible. Fun fact: walk by the Tam early in the morning and you'll see plenty of sketchy looking dudes belly up to the bar for the first drink of the morning.

Haha yeah, that place is a dump. It's kind of a joke between my friends and I that we always find ourselves there.

A serious suggestion though - there's a place called Stoddard's that I really like. Also another place called the 21st Amendment is really good too. Not breweries but Stoddard's has a really good beer list.

The Publick House in Brookline. Yo.

Their website is dead, so I couldn't tell if they actually brew their own stuff.

The PH is not a brewery, however, they carry an enormous number of craft beers.

For the official Slap & Tickle, we were thinking of crashing the Seaport hotel bar again. Worked out well last time!

Yup, Friday at 7:30pm at the Tamo. We just somehow devolved into discussing the local breweries.

Clobby Douche?

I don't think this has been mentioned here yet, but since we have a strong digital board game sub-community this looks worth linking: a panel about Digital Board Games on Saturday afternoon (3 PM, Corgi Theatre) hosted by the person who runs BGG's iOS blog. Appearing on the panel are Rabbit and people from Plaid Hat Games (Summoner Wars), Gary GamesStoneBlade (Ascension), Days of Wonder (Ticket To Ride, Small World), Shenandoah Studio (Battle of the Bulge) and Button Mash (?).

Hopefully we're getting close to a full schedule unveil soon. Also, I do not understand the Corgi meme, but I never quite "got" the whole bacon meme either.

I really hope he's not the one who demoed Summoner Wars to Demyx and I last year. I think I annoyed whoever was running the demo by bringing up Hero Academy about 5 minutes into the intro to the game. However, we enjoyed the demo and then bought a copy of the Master Set about two weeks later. I'm hoping they're demoing Mice & Mystics or the Bioshock Infinite game this year.

If you and Demyx want, I'll bring our copy of Mice and Mystics!

It doesn't have its own thread and as far as I'm aware it was only shown at PAX East 2011, but after I asked Moonshot Games about it over Twitter they responded (to me and others) that Fallen Frontier is evidently not happening. Disappointing, but I'll try and check out their new iPad game they're releasing anyway (even if I don't have an iPad).

I know at least one of their programmers went over to Owlchemy and helped produce Jack Lumber, so at least some of the remnants are going strong.

Park in Harvard Square is not terribly expensive while also not being too divey if you want to decompress and chat with a small group.

1: I love flat top johnies. One of the last places in Boston that maintains their pinball tables

2: meetup is 730 (or earlier) Friday at the tamo, seaport.

Oh lord.

I'd love to go out to CBC & Flattop Johnnie's. I personally think CBC is the best brew pub in town, but there's not a ton of competition. Also, since no one's given it a review, John Harvard's sucks. Stay away from there.

I think we'll have to do this as one of the local S&Ts, maybe once it's not dreadfully cold during the weekends. Also, they have pinball tables? I've been there 2 or 3 times I think and only remember the pool tables.

That's a shame. The one in Framingham is ok, but nothing special.

I think pinball is actually out to the left of the bar...or in the hallway leading to the bathrooms.

I filed it away after a pitcher or two of beer once, and then promptly forgot. Until now.

Kristin, Jamie, and Erika all have a thing for Corgis, so it's probably spilled over. Also, a new room name probably means more panels. They tend to keep the old names each year, and East has different room names from Prime.

That would explain it, although I've seen Corgis referenced a lot on Destructoid (I think Dale North has one?) and one of the clans in Kingdom of Loathing was petitioning hard to get corgis into the game in some capacity. I just assumed that was all part of a greater meme. Maybe this is how a meme starts?

Also, a new room name probably means more panels.

That seems to be the most likely explanation.

Eh, I also like Corgis. Goes back to Ein in Cowboy Bebop, and something about a "synthetic data dog" that I find appealing. Finally convinced the wife that if we do get a dog, it will probably be a Corgi.

You clearly haven't met a Mountain Cur, the best dog breed ever.

Thanks for reminding me we need to hurry up watching Adventure Time Season 1 so I can finally get Cowboy Bebop off Netflix

Man this thread derails fast. I see your corgis, and raise with the ultimate cat. Easily accessible during your trip to Boston!

I was always partial to pugs myself. Nothing like a dog that looks like it was punched in the face the second it left the womb.

*ahem* So what new boardgames are people looking forward to checking out this year? I'm hoping to get some serious Spartacus time.

Zombicide and Spartacus both sounded fun. If there's interest, I can bring up my copies of Descent, Mice & Mystics, Tammany Hall and/or Road to Enlightenment (all the newish ones that need more playin'!)

I'd also love to get in some more tabletop RPing; Fiasco, Tremulus, Durance..

Zombicide is great fun. It gets better after your first run through. (Read: your first loss.)

I'm up for anything. We'll probably have our collection of line games - Zombie Dice, Martian Dice, We Didn't Playtest This At All, etc.

What I'm jonesing to play:
Zombicide
Spartacus: Blood in the Sand

We only really got into board games in the last year or so, so we've got a large backlog of things that we should play. At Unity XIX, we got our first taste of worker placement with Argicola and Lords of Waterdeep, and I'm always looking for more. We've also never done a 4x, but will probably get something on the table (Twilight Imperium or Eclipse) in Feb. PAX time is precious, and I wouldn't want to presume that anyone wants to play a 45-min-per-player 6+ player game...

Oh you would be surprised. Last year we had a 6+ hour long game of BSG going. Not quite 6x45 mins, but close!

Space Cadets! Core Worlds Galactic Orders, Dune, Merchant of Venus, X-Wing minis, Empires of the Void, Eclipse, The Manhattan Project, Cyclades, Power Grid.

The trick is we are flying this year so I will have to figure which games I can/want to transport.

Please bring Dune! It is the one regret I had about PenguinCon - missing out on Dune.
