Airborn, a game/mod I'm working on

Completely forgot you posted about this game a while back. The music is gorgeous, and really curious how the game itself comes out.

Wow, that looks amazing, Podunk. Good luck!

I've been wondering about this lately since I've seen you more active online. Honestly, it looks as good as any AAA title of a similar style...of which there are very few, unfortunately.

So happy! You have no idea how many times I just glanced to see if anything has happened on this.

Enslaved? Firefall? Prince of Persia (2008)? Those are the 3 retail releases that come to mind based on the 2013 screens linked.

Maybe the newly announced Wind Waker HD remake. Actually, the geometry is far more complex but the rendering style / color palette looks very similar.

Man, you're not kidding! I hadn't seen those Wind Waker HD screens--they are very similar indeed. Zelda is a big inspiration for Airborn, so I guess a little convergent evolution is not too surprising.

You probably hadn't seen them since Nintendo just released them last week and the whole of enthusiast gaming press poo=pooed the actually quite awesome Nintendo Direct presentation where they announced that and like 5 other new games (for the 'hardcore gamer') and gave more info including promise of playable demos at e3, among other things. It was pretty much better than last year's e3 press conference.

What sort of cues is the team grabbing for inspiration from Zelda? Is this gonna be Darksiders for adults who never grew up? (I couldn't help myself)

Neox stated in their Polycount WIP thread that they're trying out a few different gameplay mechanics, some involving flight. The original idea was meant to be a 3D sorta-open-world platformer with some sorta-open-world flight mechanics, but he hasn't let on yet how much of that they are retaining.

Looks ace! Reminds me of Lili on iOS.

That's still the plan, though flight has become much more central to gameplay that it originally was. Which is good, I think, because it's pretty darn central to the whole concept of Airborn.
