Cons, Cons and more Cons

So I've heard podcasts mention these different GWJ gatherings to play games. And although I'm not a table top gamer, I find the gatherings themselves interesting, even just hearing about them and people's experiences. I was wondering is there a central thread/place where these things are listed out with dates and locations and if it's open invite or private invite? Even a place where people can post pics and talk about them? Or is it just random threads that are sort of scattered out depending on when these events took place? Thanks for any info!

They're called Slap & Tickles. They're generally open to anyone who wants to come (Rabbitcon is an invite-only thing, and more of a private party than a S&T anyway). Each S&T usually gets its own thread, and the title will usually have S&T in it, so searching the site for "S&T" will bring up past threads.

This is an actual con that GWJ is attempting to crash, but yeah, usually they're very informal S&T get-togethers of under 10 people.

There tend to be meet-ups during many of the major cons (PAX, comic-cons, etc) as well. Usually if someone's attending one they'll make a thread to see if they can meet up with other goodjers who are attending. There's also International Gamers With Jobs day, which is a random day/weekend in October where we try to have as many S&Ts as possible.
There's also Pencon, which is a large scale S&T put on by OilyPenguin & crew. Teneman owns a castle* and MonoCheli runs it, so I suppose any time a goodjer visits is its own mini-S&T.
There's no real requirement to putting on your own S&T either, just pick a time and place, and see if other goodjers are interested. Sometimes it can be like herding cats though.

FTFY

Thanks for the info, guys! It would be great to just attend one and witness first hand all the fun. I'll bring Bacon.

Saw one from 08 in Houston, then one in 2011 that was a Farewell one. I'm guessing that, that was the last one here down South.

I think we should call past S&Ts, "Ex-Cons."

Ha! Nice. I wish people would take more pictures or videos at these things. But I guess when you're in the middle of playing games, it's a little hard to step back and do that.

I think Pencon had quite a lot of pictures taken. They're probably not in the thread itself, but links to the albums on Flickr or the like.

Truth.

Here's the thread for the newest one in case you want to head up here to Ohio.

These are the guys you need to get a hold of:

Might be a little bit of a drive for ya but, they are pretty frequent with the S&T's.

I'm heading to 2 full scale cons this year C2E2 and Dragoncon. I don't know how many GWJ'ers go to your average con, but I assume it's enough to get S&T's going with a little effort.

Do you go to any cons like those?

Better yet, we should charter a plane and call it "Con Air"
