Summoner Wars Catch All

Yeah, I was as well which is why I was just now bringing it back up.

I still play the iOS game on a daily basis. I really want the card board version now. I'm not accepting games requests right now, but once something opens up I'll let everybody know.

I have maybe one open game right now so I'm definitely down.

I've been playing in several tournaments/leagues that are now finishing up. I think I am mostly ready to let the game sit for a bit and see when they come out with some of the expansions. But not surprising that I would be feeling a little burned out after playing 180+ games :p

I'll also be happy to take an SW break soon - and I've only played a quarter as many games as you. If I lose my GWJ tournament game against oilypenguin (currently nearing the end with no clear favourite) then I will have the consolation of that break - and will avoid the tension of another game against you!

Had a couple of good games with Justinbot. Happy to get my cloaks back in action after being to scared to use them in the tourney - they're definitely my favorite faction. The Admiral is definitely a must-have champion for them, IMO.

I still feel weird playing the jungle elves, despite how strong they are. Something with them just doesn't click for me, especially trample which I can't seem to intuitively calculate right. That being said, hasted gorillas are absolutely amazing at bringing down summoners hiding in the back row.

Hasted gorillas are amazing at just about everything really.

Just a shot in the dark - anyone that doesn't already own everything Summoner Wars interested in picking up some stuff up? I've got a Master Set plus Cloaks, Jungle Elves, Filth, and the Hawk's Strike supplement deck I'm lookiing to unload and figured I'd check here first before hopping on Ebay.

This has replaced my summoner wars time:

Solforge Demo is up. I started a Catch-All.

Was looking to get into this after reading all the praise on Pocket Tactics, are people around here still playing?
Also, where do I start?! The number of factions is intimidating, which ones are best to learn as a beginner? Should I stick with the basic ones, and are the reinforcement packs necessary to have a fair shot at winning?

I'm still playing, feel free to send me an invite.

In my opinion the best way to learn is to play one faction and keep playing that until you feel like you get it. The most straightforward factions are probably dwarves and orcs (Phoenix elves aren't too bad either). With any faction you want to take a good look at their event cards and figure out how to build your strategy around them.

The reinforcements aren't really necessary, they won't be the difference between winning and losing generally, but they expand the strategies open to you. Looking at my decks for each faction I probably use a reinforcement card in most of them.

Second Summoners are coming soon:

On a side note, after many months I finally got the master set for my birthday. I bought filth and mercenaries and all the reforcements that I own with Christmas money. I pretty much wanted every faction that wasn't on the iOS. Eventually I'll get around to getting the rest. Its funny how long it took me to buy this game being my favorite board game. Problem is that I'll have a hard time finding a friend to play with me since I got really good with the iOS version. Any challengers in Denver want to meet up?

Second Summoners is GREAT news. This means entire new sets of matching Event cards to go along with them which blows out the custom deck building options even more.

I used The Filth for the first time last week and they are fantastic. The mutations are very powerful and easily accessible with the Event cards that allow for free casting or a dig through the deck to find the specific mutation you need. I barely missed the lack of champions, those mutations were so fun to use.

I might be able to take you up on it, depending on where you're at.

Troll Country Games is about as far north as I'll go. Let me know!

Really excited for second summoners to actually be coming out. They've been talking about them for a while now.

Sorry I miss your PM. I just sent you a response!

New to the thread! Hello, everyone!

I like Summoner Wars but haven't yet played a whole lot of it, only about 10-15 online matches total. I've found that I don't (yet, at least) like playing against random public opponents much -- it feels too tense, for whatever reason.

I'd like to try some games against GWJers, though! Pacman, I sent you an invite since yours was the most recent post I saw that mentioned you're open for invites.

I'm happy to accommodate. I agree playing against total unknowns is kind of weird, and I don't tend to do much of it. I've already joined this game as jungle elves, but if there was any faction you wanted to play against for future games let me know as I am happy to play any faction.

I'm up for some games if anybody else is still interested. I've played around 20 matches so far and find my feelings running quite hot and cold. Some games can be really excellent and the feeling of drawing the exact card you need for finish of a match is great.
On the other hand I have had a few games where it feels like I am making decent decisions but I'm getting some bad rolls and just not scoring any hits while my opponent can't miss if they try. I find a match or two like this really puts me off the game for a few weeks.

Phoenix Elves 2nd Summoner preview:

http://www.plaidhatgames.com/news/180

I finally played my Master Set and it was fantastic. It was a hard sale to my brother but once it click with him I notice his interest grew quite a bit. I preselected the races and deck to make the game easy to understand for him (Vasgerths vs shadow elves). Despite playing almost hundred games and him playing his first it was really close! After the first game I show off the races and taught him how to build his own deck. The second I told him about the swamps orcs' ability to spam out vine walls he immediatley started to build a deck for our next session. I was disappointed because I wanted to play them! >:( But that's ok because I'm going to use the Benders next. That will teach him! :D. Hopefully we will play more soon, the game is so much better when playing with real cards than playing on iOS. I'll have to find some local group to convert more people. I could play this game everyday.

Awesome story, Crockpot. Summoner Wars is amazing. It's up there with Magic for me. Funny thing, my very first game was also using Mountain Vargath vs. Shadow Elves. I'm still looking forward to playing SW on the iPad some day but I think it will be hard to beat the analog experience.

Pacman, good games so far!

Sorry for adopting such a defensive posture towards the end of our most recent game, but with you having so effortlessly trounced me in our first two games, I wanted to be very careful to avoid doing anything to jeopardize the board position that I ended up with in that 3rd game -- particularly since I'm still not sure I know all of the tricks that the Jungle Elves have up their sleeves! And even more particularly since, due to some luck with the dice, my Summoner spent the end of the game in hiding with just her last 1 HP remaining.

Looking forward to playing some more!

I'm not as good as Pacman but I finally am going back to SW. Send me an invite? GC Thenafter.

Uhm, my record against you (6-17) would suggest that the above statement is demonstrably false :p

And watch out for WolverineJon, he's a fast learner!

WolverineJon, what's your Gamecenter ID?
Hereafter, Invite sent.

Dysplastic wrote:

I'll give you one guess.

(As I'm sure you have successfully guessed, it's "WolverineJon"!)

Send me an invite, I'd like to play! You can join Pacman in taking me to school, "the hard way."

Thanks for the games Hereafter!
I have t admit, that first game I was brutal, I basically forgot entirely how to play the game. Made tons of mistakes. The second game I was determined to redeem myself and was lucky to do so, with some help from some brutal die rolls on your part. Still, I managed to stick to my strategy, and was amused that our champion-centric approach to vanguards was similar despite a totally different champion selection. Another reason I love this game.
Wolverine, I'll toss you an invite soon. I might be taking a bit more time with my turns as I get back into the rythm of the game, though.

Dysplastic, sounds good!

Pacman, good game! Once again I got some help from the dice to manage to get a win -- in particular, rolling perfectly against Baldar to take him down in only two turns, IIRC. Even at the end there where you had nothing left but your summoner and a catapult and I still had a full-health Champion on the board, you had me sweating until the very end with your smart play.
