How do you guys feel about monks? Fun to play?!

Most fun I've had in wow. Played since launch day and this is the first time I've only had a single character at the level cap.

Nice! Thank you, sir.

Totally agree - I've had chars hit the cap before, but Monks are just ludicrously good in combat and amazingly powerful, good at self-healing, etc. Plus, with double rested as Pandaren and a daily quest that gives an hour-long 50% boost to mob AND quest XP, levelling isn't that slow, either.

And the nice thing being that monks aren't over powered. They just have a robust toolbox with a relatively high skill requirement for mastery of the class.

Just started doing heroics on mine, but leveling up they seemed overpowered. Except for my DK i've never been able to pull an entire zone with elites and know that i'd come out on top. With my DK it wasnt always a sure thing either unlike my monk has been.

They're a wonderful class to solo old raid content with - which has been unlocked for soloers as of 5.2, so anything pre-MoP you can run into by yourself. My monk's soloed a load of raid content and it's been wonderful - it's probably the best test of how well you know your class.

Most tank classes are capable of that. Victory Rush / Impending Victory are stupidly overpowered for solo or group play, for example. (Extra mega bonus fun for mote grinding in Dread Wastes with Battle Hymn and Iron Mantid.)

Death Strike used to be much stronger but it feels like the self heal was reduced. I blame self target macro death coil!

I've quite enjoyed "monk"eying around in WoW as well. Tanking through the Cata dungeons was quite fun, especially Blackrock Cavern... but that was mostly because of the run where the druid healing me died at the very beginning of the third boss. All I can say is, thank goodness for Healing Spheres. Healers, who needs them, amirite?

yay for pooping green bubbles!

Started playing again a couple days ago. Getting justice points on my paladin to buy a few heirlooms for my monk.

Decided to start up some Alts after clearing my hard drive of all other games. Trying out a Priest, which I hated playing before, but turns out to be quite fun once you get the hang of them.

What else should I start? Monk?

I think most are pretty fun with the exception of casters for me. I think the druid is one of the best because it offers so many options.

@ mateo: Paladins have a similar tank/heals/DPS utility. Plus they've got some good lore characters. And they're sexy.

Darkmoon Faire is open this week. If you hit it hard, you can rack up some tokens toward heirlooms. It's not the most efficient approach, but it's another option.

Thanks, Enix! I have actually been running dungeons for justice points. Getting about 200 per run on normal cataclysm dungeons. Darkmoon Faire grinding just makes me think of the Argent Crusade grind all over again and I want to vomit at the thought of that.

Darkmoon Faire isn't terrible. You can get about 80 tickets a week if you do the profession quests, the 250 kills quest and the dailies each day. Throw in the drops (you can grab 'em off the AH), and you can usually squeeze out enough tickets for a piece of gear in a week.

But 200 JPs per run isn't Cata dungeon run isn't horrible, either. You'll still collect JPs once you hit the Panda dungeons.

Speaking of BOAs, I think I saw that Patch 5.2 will extend their usefulness to lvl 85. I think they stop working at 80 these days.

Hmm. The ones you buy via the guild maybe?

Yes, the heirlooms you can buy at your guild vendor are all viable until lvl 85, the others will be upgradeable via Justice Points (blegh).

Yes. To clarify, the upgraded ones will have a cost of the original heirloom (meaning you must have already purchased it) PLUS the same JP cost as the original heirloom. Ergo, an heirloom originally costing 2175 jp will be a total of 4350 for the upgraded version. For an extra 5 levels. That, depending on your playstyle and class, can last for all of... 2-5 days to surpass? Hmm. Yeah.

If I could just send all my BoA's to Blackhand, I'd be back in a heartbeat, I really hope they do that someday

I looked more into this and Darkmoon Faire really is much better than the Argent Crusade. I've managed to get a fair number of tickets pretty quickly without much effort. With any luck, I might get an heirloom even by tomorrow!

Morning, all. I downloaded the WoW game client, last night on a whim. I haven't played since probably about December 2010 (i.e. immediately after Cataclysm dropped), but lo and behold I was back in Azeroth last night futzing around in the Dwarf starting area on a brand new Warlock.

Right now I'm on Ysera since that's what it recommended to me. I've decided to abandon my previous mains since I'm no longer invested in them after the time gap. It feels good to have a fresh start, especially since it looks like much has changed!

Bah, Blizzard and its recommendations!

You can always roll on Blackhand, assuming you've got the U.S. edition of the game. Do a /who GWJ to find out who's on and pst someone for a guild invite.

Welcome back!

P.S. For all of your what-the-hell-happened-to-my-class?! needs, I can't recommend icy-veins.com enough. Their class guides are easy to read and pretty comprehensive. It's not EJ, but it's more than good enough when you're starting from scratch.

Icy-veins is excellent!

Alright, I'll hop on Blackhand in a few hours. Looking for a good night of relearning everything. Sadly, Icy Veins is blocked by our firewall so I won't be able to get a head start. Oh well. Honestly I'll have a harder time picking a name than actually relearning the game if my name is already taken on the server.

Can't wait!

I've been very impressed by Pandaria. I've also been on hiatus, and it was nice to come back to so many improvements. I hit 90 about a week ago (I also started a new toon), and there is a ton of content still to explore. Also, heroics are fun again.

Icy Veins has been great, but its not needed much at low levels. It will give you an idea about how the different specs play, which may cause you to choose one or another.

Maaan talk about a learning experience. I hit level 10 on my brand new Warlock (on Blackhand, as suggested) and I turned into a demon, got a new resource bar, and I became immediately confused. I get how it works now, but unlike most things in the game, it wasn't immediately obvious on how Metamorphosis operated. Even Wowhead and Icy Veins weren't all that great of help, to be honest.

Still having a ton of fun so far though.

I have been dabbling back and forth with plenty of toons. Me and my wife have been rolling back and forth between our lvl 33ish Monks and our 85's on both Blackhand and our old Horde toons we abandoned after we stopped playing back in the day. It seems like there is just SO MUCH to do now in WoW. It might just be that I missed rolling back through the sundering content after Cata, but it's nice to level my Monk with my wife and switch off to my Pally by myself and still see stuff in older zones I never saw before! Having a hard time focusing on one character just because of the embarrassment of riches!
