The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

The W-Item thing was an exploit and not a glitch. I used it, therefore it must be on the level.

For those that have done Dragonborn, are there any requirements that it makes on base Skyrim quests, like how Dawnguard requires a certain item from the Skyrim main quest line? I'm wondering about whether to use my current 'do everything' character, or to go with a new one.

Does Dawnguard really require that item? I had it, but I don't recall it being needed.

Wiki entry on that item (don't hover! Spoilers!)

It does, but there's a base game sidequest that will also get you it. So if you haven't done that sidequest (or the main story quest) by the time you hit that point in Dawnguard, the Dawnguard story will set you on the sidequest.

(And if you know what sidequest it is, and are afeared of its length, fear not—you'll get the item and can continue on your merry Dawnguard way without completing the sidequest.)

Out of interest, how many 360 players do we have who've played Dragonborn?

At this point, I'm trying to level my guy up to 81 then I'm going to start again. i feel like I've done heaps in the world, but because i've left it for a while, I want to go back in fresh knowing what i do now.

Really getting the new character itch... must resist... must get to level 81 first...

I'm also trying to hit 81 (or at least 78). I'm 65 right now, and was getting about a level every two sessions (of about 2-3 hours each). That's with the Aetherial Crown (a Guardian Stone + Lover Stone) and training every level. I imagine once I max out the rest of my combat and stealth skills (maxed half of them so far, rest are 90s and one 70s) and have to start working on magic, things are going to really slow down as it becomes a spell-casting grind

So my question to you is, how much of an uphill climb do you see your level 81 journey? I've no doubt that there's enough left to do for me to reach it, it's just looking further and further off the closer I get.

Well the skills I'll need to reach level 81 aren't really the fun ones. I have block, heavy armour, two handed swords at all really low levels. Isn't really my thing, but I suppose it could be interesting to change it up a bit. Most of my magic is around the 70s if I recall correctly and I already have the smithing, enchanting etc at 100.

The only reason is I want to get the Legendary dragon. Once I've done that, I'm going for the restart. So I guess I don't need 81, probably 78 will be fine. Currently 69, so I think I can get there pretty soonish if I power level it a bit.

Heh, you and me both. /weary, sore-thumbed respek knuckles

At level 81 the Ebony Warrior quest starts in Dragonborn, so I'd like to do that. No achievement for it, other than knowing you beat a ridiculously hard enemy.

I haven't been above letting enemies wail on me for a while in order to grind up skills. Unfortunately one- and two-handed skills take forever to level, so while my one-handed is in the 90's, my two-handed is still in the 40's or 50's and I know i have a long way to go with that. Conjuration lets you at least level two skills at once, when you conjure a sword (one-handed) or battle ax (two-handed). I think alteration, restoration, and alchemy are going to take the longest after two-handed.

Don't forget the new boss encounter added with Dragonborn.

Well in that case I'll have to go for the full 81. Or at least get to 78, kill legendary dragon, then keep the character there for later to kill the level 81 ebony warrior.

Well I've hit level 78... now to hunt me a dragon...

Also, Dragonborn is available to pre-order on Steam. $25. Sheesh. Bit steep.

$25 ? is that the Australian steam ? ouch
Im going to hold off getting it until later, if you pre order it maybe it downloads automatically thus causing lots of trouble with mods.

It's £14 here, which is the same as Dawnguard.

Yup, good ol Regional pricing. Hopefully green man gaming has it soon and not at the regional pricing.

On the plus side, I just defeated a legendary dragon!!!

It was actually quite easy considering my bow is totally overpowered. But now at least I took him down. I figure now I just need to collect the rest of the daedric artifact as I already have most of them.

Not sure if I should start the new character for Dragonborn or just keep going with this one.

Photoshopped!

I've seen a LOT of photoshopped pics in my time and this is definitely one where you've removed his health bar! :p

I haven't been following. Do you need to be high level to get to Solsheim? Or is this just for the cheevos?

Did he drop any good loot?

Lol, I removed his health bar with my Dragonbone Bow and Arrow!

Nope. Plan old ordinary dragon bones. I think there was a couple of hundred gold, but I've got over 400K, so I don't exactly need the money. I've now killed another legendary dragon since that one. Pic below:

"Yep, this is definitely an impacted tooth. It's going to need to come out. Have you been flossing regularly?"

Show off!

Sooo, GMG have Dragonborn for prepurchase at £13.99, but also have a 20% off code on the go, only bringing it down to £11.20, but still, better in my pocket than theirs, right? What's the chances of it being any less than that any time after launch?

Hmm, I also still have £2.75 in GMG credit I could use, bringing it down to £8.44.. Decisions!

I think I'm going to wait. I will get it at some point, but I've got a pile and other games on the go, original skyrim stuff to finish (getting along fine with my 2h orc vampire), any mod compatibility issues might be mopped up, bug patches. Not that I'd expect the initial version to be bad, going by what the 360 people have been saying.

Hmm $16 for me.... Well certainly better than $25 that steam wants to charge me. Still, I have a couple more days to see if there are other cheaper places.

$22.50 for all three for me as long as I get all three in their first week of release.

Finally hit 50 with my first character, the Breton sneak thief. Picked up the Solitude house to get my max level Thane (sorry Lydia, blame Bethesda for not fixing your static level! :(). Now to get married to my new Thane for my last achievement (and to have a wife who isn't stuck at home), then onto the theives guild line to get the max level Chillrend as a wedding present for her! Can't wait for the DLC to hit!

I hear ya with waiting for mod compatibility, I just have a feeling that it won't be that price again for a while after release, judging by the way Dawnguard was priced/sale price. I guess I could pre-order with GMG for the discount, but not use the code straight away... There's a few days left for me to decide anyway..

On another note..

I potentially have an issue, but it might be 'just the way it is' for all I can find out...

I completed the Civil War questline, siding with the Imperials. I did this a looong time ago with my current character, and yet Windhelm has still not returned to normal, nor can I fast-travel to it. I can fast-travel to the stables outside, and the entrance walkway to the city is still covered in barricades/fire, and parts of the city are still on fire also, yet there are some citizens walking around as if nothing is wrong. Also

Spoiler:

Inside the palace, the bodies of Ulfric and his right-hand-man remain

but nobody else is to be seen in the place... The new Jarl is sitting in his house/wandering around, but doesn't have any dialogue that even makes note of the events that have happened, or the fact that he should be the Jarl.. It's as if they're all in denial.

I've read some pretty strange bugs with this city after the questline is completed, and some suggest that after 30 in-game days it will return to normal, but I don't have some of the other behaviour noted to do with these bugs.. Plus, 30 in-game days is a looong time when you rarely sleep/rest..

I'm just afraid I miss out on being able to do quests that involve this city as it's just not in it's right state - anyone else have anything similar?

What mods do you have running?

For example, I had improved skyforge that affected Whiterun and a few other places with more equipment, except it affected the nav meshes so a few choice NPCs couldn't get around and the Jarl stayed put after the funeral there, and another horse riding one that was a log-jam in scripting for everything. Not quite to the extent of keeping a city in 'war' state, but it would be the first thing I'd look at (although I used to run a load of mods).

Another thing is that after the war, cities with fighting in them don't fully return to normal, damaged objects stay that way, but that's just cosmetic.

Hmm. good point. I don't think I have anything that specifically messes with Windhelm, but I do run OpenCities, so maybe that's it. I'll do a little experimenting this evening and see if I can at least narrow it down.

Almost all my mods are texture/lighting/etc, with a few character based ones for hair, eyes and the likes. I really have very little that should alter the landscae, other than OpenCities, so that's where I'll start methinks.

Oh, I also have Qs windhelm basement, although I've never actually used it yet. I'll do some digging, thanks.
