Upcoming Indie Games to Keep an Eye On

Well, this could be amazing.

Hopefully the game play will live up to the presentation.

Luminesca looks quite lovely. Maybe a bit less cheesy than Aquaria, which I'd appreciate.

Unclaimed World

Unclaimed World is a single player game for the PC which combines the citybuilding and the sim genres, taking cues from games like Dwarf Fortress and The Settlers. You direct a small group of pioneers who are creating a settlement on a lush planet with a harsh and challenging environment.

The gameplay comes from a detailed simulation of human characters and alien wildlife. You do not directly control each individual character, instead you make strategic choices by prioritizing the overall goals of the collective which they will try and fulfill – if their health and morale allows it and when they have the time. In theory the game would “play itself” without your input. But your community of pioneers would not last long on the hostile planet without your strategic planning. The game plays out as a tug-of-war between humans and nature on a planet full of opportunities and dangers.

- Realistic space pioneer atmosphere
Fusing of plausible sci-fi with the pioneering experience of historic frontiers.

- Simulation of alien ecosystem and human society
Detailed game systems combine and create emergent gameplay, ensuring that no two games are the same.

- Manage independent people, not pawns
The characters are free individuals with their own ideas and motivation.

- Comprehensive, flexible economy
Food can spoil and things break – but there are many ways for you to make improvised solutions.

Yeah, that looks amazing.

Oohhh, daddy likes.

Me too. This sounds like what people expected from SimMars. WANT.

Sadly it doesn't look like random maps will be in the initial version...*sniff*...but that's okay...I guess...;)

Has anyone mentioned quadrilateral cowboy (see also: on RPS, Blendo's development blog) yet?

Just a heads up: I made a Catch-All thread for it that includes an interview with the dev.

Antichamber is finally out on Steam. Do it.

Yay!

Hammerwatch, aka pixelated Gauntlet.

The game looks fun, but "pixelated Gauntlet" is like saying "lo-res Minecraft."

Just thought I cross post this with the survival games thread. http://www.unlok.ca/wayward/
Free lost on a desert island and survive type game. With a bit of rogue like in it to boot.

That makes me want to put an Ikari Warriors stick on my mame cabinet and run it there.

That looks great

So, Anodyne is out now, it looks pretty good.

That is does. There's also a nice demo available. I love old-school Zelda, so it breaks my heart that I have to skip this because of my vow to buy as little new games as possible this year.

New trailer

Saw a link to this trailer on indiegames.com this morning and it looks pretty crazy. Really interested to see how it turns out, too.

Factorio

Looks really interesting, so of minecraft/terraria mixed with a bit of tropico.

I found an actual indie console game worthy of note.

White Noise: A tale of Horror is an unabashed copy of the PC indie-darling, Slender.

(80msp / $1)

- ScrewAttack review

Nice production value for an 360 indie and a great price to boot. I don't have a gaming PC, so it's nice to get a taste of what Slender is all about through White Noise.

Crossposting from the Greenlight thread.

DreadChase

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IS HAPPENING! But I like it.

Tried playing Jelly No Puzzle after seeing it mentioned on RPS. Really tightly designed puzzle game, and all of the levels I've played so far really nail that trajectory of "this doesn't look so bad" --> "hmmm..." --> "I'm fairly sure this is impossible" --> *muffled sobbing* --> "GENIUS!"

It's also hard to argue with the price of free. You can get it here. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go rest my brain, it's all hurty.

Is there any interest in 4 player packs for The Showdown Effect? I'm considering pre-ordering but I'd rather do a pack if there's suitable interest.

I might be interested... I just started playing the beta so I want to get in some more time before I decide. Speaking of which, if anyone wants to take part in the beta I have 3 extra keys to hand out.

Year Walk is out today!

Not sure if it's been posted before in this thread, here is the trailer:

First Official trailer for The Witness is finally out. Looks awesome. Also looks like a strong spiritual successor for Myst/Riven, which I am all for.
