PAX East 2013!

So, a few of us were comparing our panel schedules. Shawn is on one Friday at 630, I'm on one Saturday at 7:30. In the past we've done 5:30 or so at the Seaport, we were going to suggest that perhaps this time we skew late on Friday night, starting, say, officially at 7:30, so Sean can swoop in with his entourage fashionably 20 minutes late. Those of us who want to eat dinner can come a bit early and stake out some booths and the like.

I think the venue worked extraordinarily well, even without "formally" booking the space. Lots of spillover into the lobby/lounge area too if needed.

Any objections? I know some folks are coming Saturday only, but that's also likely to be busier at the bar with non-goodjers.

Sounds great. We'll probably come a little early to leave more time for sacrificing playing with the baby.

Yes, I mean the Tamo bar. Good food and drinks. Not like, CHEAP, but actually worth it.

I really wish I come again this year, but it's not going to happen unfortunately

Hope everyone has an awesome time!

I agree with the Friday meet up. For all of the right reasons

Wait a second!? Who is going to be our token Aussie now?

Alas. I could only get Sat/Sun tickets, so I'll miss the meet-up this time around.

No Tik required for a meetup. You could borrow my spare just for fri if you give it back over beers.

My PAX schedule is totally open, so I'm in for the Friday meetup as well. Never been to Tamo (or really, any bar down there besides Drink) so that should be fun.

Friday night sounds great to me. I think last year we had to bounce early due to wanting to catch Saturday's concerts.

Oh crap. I forgot about those.

Ah well. I found out Machinae Supremacy is allegedly going to be at the next MAGFest, so I'll definitely be seeing all those bands live anyway.

Cool, I'll try to make the meetup with you guys. I missed it last time, but I met a few of you guys at the first PAX East.

Gonna skip concerts this time around, I've seen them all enough. Gotta fit in more gaming, ya know?

Drink. So awesome. So pretentious. So expensive.

I'll be down for some drinks on Friday, but will probably be bouncing "early" so I can catch Those Who Fight and Protomen.

I'll be having a finely crafted cocktail at Drink sometime during the weekend, but it's way too small to hold the S&T there, and there's no food. And it's pretentious and uncomfortable.

Prententious? In Boston? Never!

Went to Drink as the last stop of a double date, and told our bartender there'd be a bigger tip if she treated my friend like the ass that he is.

Needless to say, he stormed out during our second round, and I got to pick up the tab (all 8 drinks!) plus the tip I had promised. My bank account was not happy after that

Pff, you guys and your fancy bars. My go to stop for drinking in Boston is a sh*thole on Tremont St. called The Tam.

Much obliged. I'll pass on the ticket (two days of PAX is enough for me, I think!), but that's a good point, and I'll drop in for the meetup regardless. Cheers!

It doesn't have its own thread and as far as I'm aware it was only shown at PAX East 2011, but after I asked Moonshot Games about it over Twitter they responded (to me and others) that Fallen Frontier is evidently not happening. Disappointing, but I'll try and check out their new iPad game they're releasing anyway (even if I don't have an iPad).

I'd be down for grabbing a cocktail there one night. One of my friends barbacks there, so timing it when she's on might work out well.

Oh lord... we had our last S&T a few doors down from the Tam. It's right by where I went to grad school, so I know it well. I also have a friend who's actually been kicked out of the Tam, something I didn't think was possible. Fun fact: walk by the Tam early in the morning and you'll see plenty of sketchy looking dudes belly up to the bar for the first drink of the morning.

Riiiiiiight a friend

Also if you make it to Copley go to a pub called "The Globe" best Steak Tip sandwich in the effing world. Also get it with waffle fries.

Find me all the microbreweries!

The Harpoon brewery is like 2 blocks away from the convention center.

And they just opened up a dining hall. Haven't tried it yet though.

Aside from Harpoon and Sam Adams, are there any other brewery/brew pubs in town? I know there's a ton of places with awesome beer selections, and a ton of micros around, but how many other "we brew it here" places are there?

There's

Rockbottom Brewery and Restaurant
(Odd business that's a chain of local breweries) in Boston proper
Mystic Brewery in Chelsea
Night Shift Brewing in Everett
Idle Hands Craft Ales in Everett
Cambridge Brewing Company in Cambridge
John Harvard's in Cambridge

The ones in Everett and Chelsea are inconvenient to get to through the T, but very close to each other. The ones in Cambridge are reasonable walks from T stops.

In fair driving range for you McIrish, there's also Redhook, and Smuttynose in Portsmouth.

Sam Adam's brewery is really far from the Convention (ie. Jamaica Plain). Like get on the orange line in Downtown Crossing and ride for 20 minutes and then walk another 10-15.

CBC is really good and about a 10 minute walk from Kendall/MIT. Used to hit that after work on Friday with co-workers at my previous job. Oh right, we went to the Irish Pub next door which served CBC as well. It's also next to Flattop Johnny's which I sadly haven't been to in a while either.

Rockbottom isn't bad, but nothing too special I think. There's also Boston Beer Works near Fenway, but I've only been there once and it was years ago.

And Smuttynose's brewery is awesome. Need to go back there again.

I went to the Sam Adam's brewery in JP this summer, I remember it being more like a 5 minute walk from the T stop. That's a really popular tour though and odds are you'll have to wait, I had to wait more than an hour, to go on a tour.

I stand corrected then. I haven't been there in probably 2-3 years so I'm probably exaggerating slightly on the time it takes to get there. It is a popular destination depending on the time of day/year.

Coming in a bit late to the thread here.
We don't have Friday passes but are going to be in town that evening. Thus I think a Friday night meetup is a tip-top idea.

That whole Innovation Square in Kendall is a decent destination. Sure its over the river, but about 10 minutes walk from Kendall or Central T stops.

CBC, Flat Top (pool & darts), Friendly Toast, there's some club in the basement last time I was there, and then Hungry Mother and a great pizza place just on the other side of the street.

Man, I kinda miss when we had an office at the CIC and would head over to Flat Top for monthly parties.
