The Binding of Isaac

I only restart if I get to the womb and I have terrible fire power, even then I might just continue to my inevitable death for the practice. I have a reasonable eye for what kinds of builds will take you through hell, the cathedral or the chest and once you're at the womb there are so few power-up style pick ups to be had there's often little point continuing if your firepower and/or survivability is very poor. Of course it's hard to know where the bar is until you've got multiple satan or cathedral runs down.

Even the map is trolling me now. Notice how I have the treasure map and it's not showing secret rooms.

You're encountering more bugs that I've ever seen

I thought the map never showed the location of secret rooms?

The treasure map item should, at least it did on the floor below that one, and the wiki claims it does: http://bindingofisaac.wikia.com/wiki...

For instance, here's an screenshot with the map and secret room visible, no spelunkers helmet and secret room not visited.

Two features that were requested in the survey they tried to do with the Flash version, but are going to do with the remake: (Source)

1. The ability to save and return to a play session.

this is something we wanted to do in the flash version but couldn’t due to limitations, this will def. be a feature in the remake.

2. The ability to take a screen cap of your final isaac after a run.

this is also something we tried to add to the flash version but couldnt and something we all want to do in the remake.

Rejoice!

Anytime I wonder why I keep playing this game, I get a run like this:

IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/NoFMq.jpg)

Dr. Fetus
Bobby-Bomb (homing bombs)
Mr. Mega (bigger bombs)
Holy Grail (flying + health)
Spelunker's Hat
Infestation (flies spawn when hit, since I have no short range damage)
Bum Friend
Scapular

And lots of health and misc other items. I just two shot pestilence...

So 200 hours of playing and I'm finally appeasing the troll engine gods and am now in my second dream run. The first being based around Dr. Fetus and about every +bomb item, just now I picked up mom's knife first thing on the first floor, then I got polyphemus, then the common cold, and on the third floor after I one shot pestilence, the devil offered me brimstone. Holy crap.

200 hour investment though...

Out of boredom I decided to run some stats on the suicide room.

Methodology:

100 suicide rooms run until payout or death using maggie after clearing the first floor for greatest health. Yum heart kept for maximum suicide usage.

I won't paste my entire spreadsheet here but give you the rundown.

20 times I had 5 hearts to use, 19 times resulted in death and once I got a gold chest but no key to open it.

44 times I had 6 hearts, 41 of those resulted in death: one time I got a single key; one time Tammy's Head; and one time 3 cents and a bomb.

36 times I had 7 hearts, 35 of those resulted in death and one time I got 2 bombs.

After this, I'm totally done with the suicide room, it is not worth it.

Suicide room is the one with the spikes in the center right? I never use those. The curse rooms (spiked teeth doors) have a better payout I think.

I never use the suicide rooms. On average after 3-5 hearts it drops a chest. There's no point in the game that a chest (of any type) is worth a single heart.

I never use those either

You can get some good drops out of them, usually worth it before you hit Womb/Utero. Worst case scenario is a troll bomb which is easily avoidable.

Yes, the curse room is absolutely worth the gamble.

I just tried several runs always trying the curse room I still can't see that's worth trading the health. You're typically trading 1 whole heart and the drop rate is skewed towards the bombs and spiders. Sure if there's plenty of spare health lying around in the floor you're on but otherwise I'm happy to stick to my strategy, which appears to be working.

In other news I just completed my Cain, Judas and Eve chest runs almost back to back. Just Samson and Poop left.

w00t! Finally completed all my chest runs. That's it for content. For some reason my final Samson chest run took so many attempts and even the run I completed it on I barely scrapped by enough fire power. Stats say I Got 99 Mom Kills and had 331 deaths. Steam reckons it took me 182 hours.

Well DanB, I think you're wrong, and here's why:
1) I have 94/97 achievements unlocked according to the game. The 98th of 97 is Platinum God.

Well it turns out you're right. I'm two secrets short with my No Damage Caves and Depths runs left

Yeah, that made me sad too. Maybe I'll try harder for that when the reboot hits.

Yesssss - finally cleared the challenges... The Purist is a b*tch since you get so much less powerups.

Still not even close to 100%-ing Wrath of the Lamb, but I just realized that I've been playing this game since Oct 2011 and I'm stilling loving it.

Wow, congrats. The Purist seems hard as hell.

I've got all except the last two and did my first Cathedral run the other day. Book of Revelations + Habit powered.

a classic combo

Wow, nice job!

After an absurd amount of hours played, I finally completed all the no damage runs. Those are some of the most difficult gaming achievements I'm ever come across. I consider myself at Platinum God status, even though it won't unlock for me due to Flash not crediting me for unlocking secrets that I've clearly already found.

If Isaac achievements weren't utterly bugged, I'd have Platinum God unlocked, but I don't want to go through trying to fix them - that's a metagame in and of itself. Wow, this game is the ultimate troll. Well played, Edmund McMillen.

Which of the No Damage runs did you find hardest? I picked up the Basement and The Womb ones, just through playing (without realising that I'd taken no damage). I tried a little to get The Caves no damage a handful of times but it seems really hard. As you'd rarely have amassed enough firepower esp. as taking little damage is generally about clearing rooms quickly than skilful dodging.

In order of difficulty:

Depths >>>>>>>>>>>> Womb >>>>> Caves >>>> Basement. You can take care of the latter two by running Challenge 6 (the one where you start with Dr. Fetus) and just nuke everything.

I lucked out on Womb a little bit with a good combo of items (don't remember exactly which - it's been a while). I'm pretty sure it involved Mom's contacts for the freeze effect, with maxed out tears.

Depths is almost impossible, but I finally managed to do it as Isaac by abusing the D6 until I got a combo of Book of Shadows, Battery, and Poison Touch. That tooks months of attempts.

FYI, this is from the Wiki and why I finally gave up on trying to get Platinum God - I'm stuck on 94/97 secrets even though I have all achievements unlocked. I just don't have the patience to re-do really tough achievements just because Flash is stupid.

Isaac Wiki[/url]]As of version 1.45: Any process that erases so.sol (achievements fix, anti-virus or spyware software targeting so.sol, using Steam's Cloud storage), will result in 94/97 secrets being unlocked if you thought you had completed every unlock, including Platinum God (which now works again).

*The four missing are as follows: Samson's Lock, Eve's Birds Foot, the Left Hand, and Cain's Eye. Eve's and ?'s in-game secrets are still reversed. So, if you had everything else from before, don't waste your time trying an Eve run again; play with ? instead to unlock Eve's Birds Foot. These 4 secrets will now stay unlocked as long as so.sol isn't erased.

*Do NOT attempt to play the game on multiple computers using the same save file via Steam's cloud saving. The above 4 secrets will get erased if doing so and will need to be unlocked AGAIN. Unless the save files were backed up previously, ALL your computers will have the above 4 missing again.

*Make sure your anti-virus or anti-spyware software leaves so.sol alone.

*Be prepared to get these 4 achievements again if using the achievements fix of erasing so.sol.

I found a small replacement for fixing achievements not registering, and it works quite well on Windows (no mac version unfortunately). I'll see if I can find the URL to it when I get home.

I know which one you're talking about, but that's for achievements (as opposed to the secrets counter). I can't unlock the Platinum God achievement because the secrets counter isn't incrementing like it's supposed to.

Bleh.

The internet suggests; Curse of the Labyrinth, Bible and The Emperor Card as an ideal set of pick ups/events.

I got superbly lucky with The Womb as I had a vastly overpowered Brimstone that was covering most of the screen and I pretty much just one-shotted every room. I forget which pick ups had combined for that effect but I think that kind of behaviour was patched as I've never seen Brimstone do that since

I love how the file extension that's related to these problem is *.SOL (yes, I know it's a Flash Shared Object)
