NFL 2012 Conference Week Thread

Whoa.

Brady fined $10k.

It is a good first step and dismantling the Brady Bubble(tm) (a semi-permeable membrane in which he can commit illegal acts, but even touching him is an automatic 15 yard penalty), but it is telling that he was fined less than Frank Gore for wearing his socks too low.

I was going to post this, I just wanted to make sure everyone saw that.

$10,000 for Tom Brady's leg kick
$10,500 for Frank Gore's low riding socks.

The NFL is a joke, and Goodell is the one responsible. Since when is player's safety less of/equal to the NFL dress code?

Well, the dress code has been important for a long, long time. Making individual players seem responsible for safety issues has been prominent for 5 years or so.

If the NFL isreally serious about uniform violations they should slam down so many penalties every time the Steelers line up in these.

Here is a list of 2012 fines for anyone interested. It looks like dress code violations always get tagged in that range. Most of the fines are pocket change to most players anyways.

Not only that, but as long as they donate the fine to charity, it's a tax writeoff!

Graphic Survey of the Harbowl

Protip: Don't watch ESPN or any other Super Bowl coverage until the kickoff of the Super Bowl.

I love the "HarBowl" and it will be great, so long as I don't listen to two weeks of bad sports reporters jabbering about it.

It's Senior Bowl week, there's plenty else to follow instead.

Truer words are seldom spoken. I go into a NFL media blackout immediately after the Conference Championship games. It seems every football player who has a "name" is someplace hawking this, that, or the other thing.

Drives me nuts.

I emotionally invest myself in making sure the TV doesn't cut on until minutes before actual Kickoff...

The Saints canned Spagnolu and are apparently switching to a 3-4. They don't actually have a defensive coordinator at this point, which strikes me as kind of odd, to put it gently. Also, do they really have the personnel for a 3-4?

If their 32nd rank on defense is any indication, they don't have the personnel for a 4-3 either.

I find it galling, GALLING, that we ignore the proud history of the NFL when referring to championships. If you're counting, then you need to count true league championships, not just Superbowl trophies.
P.S. I'm totally not biased.

Hmm. I see serious potential in St. Louis' ability to squander the draft picks they got from the Redskins.

So did Jeff Fisher hire Rob Ryan because he thinks that Ryan is good (which he isn't) or because Ryan's dad coached him and got him a job in the NFL as a coach?

Maybe he is hopeful he will punch people on the sidelines as well??

Gregg Williams coming back to the Titans. Not sure what his exact position is yet.

Vice President of Ancillary Remuneration

LeSean McCoy is a deadbeat dad

Apparently, he's also got the herp and a small kickstand, good thing he's got football going for him. If you didn't want a kid, you should have bagged it. When are pro athletes going to learn?

Yeah, too bad she doesn't have perfect grammar like Shady.

Neither participant availed themselves well in that exchange.

5 minutes, huh? Try again Rob.

Don't worry Joe, I don't think you'll be there next year.
In all seriousness, the Ravens are always in the mix, so he could be there, but I don't see what the big deal is. The AFC and NFC Championships are played in the harsh elements, I don't have a problem with the Super Bowl being there and it's not like people are not going to show up for the game. As the article pointed out, it's supposed to be in the 50s this week. Sure, you could have a huge snow storm make life difficult to travel to the game, but you could have the same thing happen in Minnesota. You could also have something worse happen, like the roof caving in.

Many people speculating what will happen, they should focus on the greater possibility of something NOT happening. It's not like upstate New York where it snows regularly, I will bet money the weather will be fine. I understand it's not going to be 70 degrees at kickoff, but it's nothing that players aren't used to.

I for one am in favor of anything that brings the cold and rain back into the game of football.

The only thing retractable roofs should be used for is when it's 100 degrees in September in Texas.

When the Bills move to Toronto I assume they will also get the Superbowl

I just wish you were in favor of a 2013 Super Bowl thread

I would love a Superbowl in the snow! For one team, that'd be the most fun they ever had...

Slow work day for Kush:

49ers are SO screwed........ I'm going to take a page out of Jeff Foxworthy's book, sort of:

If you've pretended to pull your pants down during a game to "fake moon" a crowd, you MIGHT NOT be the greatest WR to ever play the game.
If you've ever given up 2 minutes into an NFC Championship game, you MIGHT NOT be the greatest WR to ever play the game.
If you've ever been traded for and cut by the same team in the same season, you MIGHT NOT be the greatest WR to ever play the game.

Moss produced smaller numbers in a much more friendly passing era.

It's no coincidence that Moss's career year came in the same season that the PolianBall Era finally pushed the Colts to a championship. It may have helped the Colts more than the Patriots, but it sure helped Randy Moss a lot individually.

Rice played in the post-Mel Blount Rule era, but he played the prime of his career before the 1996 rule emphasis on downfield contact, and he was out of the league by the time the Polian emphasis pushed that further.

Today is my least favorite day in sports broadcasting. That is all.

You need to get a Canadian feed and watch the Grey Cup.

When it is played outdoors, chances are good that there will be snow. Almost 100% chance that it will be near freezing.
