Aliens: Colonial Marines Catch-all (Pop out of your chest-all?)

Pages

I am surprised there is no Catch-all thus far - and so I have remedied this! Feb 12, 2013 can't get here soon enough.

I think this is my most anticipated game of q1 2013.

I will be playing on 360 and looking for co-op buddies!

Stay frosty.

How long is it meant to be between Aliens and Alien 3? Alien to Aliens was 57 years. Mentioning Fury 161 would imply to me they're setting this after Alien 3.

I'm really looking forward to this an hope it's good.

It is set 17 weeks after Aliens, so pretty much right afterwards.

My very dicey history with Gearbox's output has this firmly in wait and see mode. If it draws raves I'd probably give it a look on Wii U, because new shinies and all.

I thought it was interesting to see the Alien 1 creatures with the translucent skulls alongside the typical Aliens.

I'm interested to see what Gearbox does with the title. The action looks a bit slower paced than I would like though.

The whole co-op angle makes me wary it will be nothing but combat; I hope we get some down-time to explore the quarters for clues/journals/etc.

I was a giant fan of AvP2 (even wrote for PlanetAvP back in the day). The latest AvP game was a tremendous letdown, enough that it took me a long time to pull the trigger on this one. I got a pre-order at GMG at 35% off, which was enough to convince me to risk it.

I know that Gearbox knows how to make a solid FPS. I also know that they don't always pull it off. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Day one for me. I'm hoping they have a 4 pack for this on Steam since it's 4 player co-op.

I hear the Coop was going to be like L4D which I found pretty neat.

Looking for people with a PS3 that are getting this game so I can have some decent people to play with, btw I couldn't help but to preorder the collectors edition with the powerloader statue.

I had to look up which one you were talking about, and reading the campaign story lines ( I know major spoilers but oh well) The campaigns sound pretty cool.

I always liked how the AvP series, mainly the first AvP released 98-99 and AvP 2 released 01-02, made me feel immersed in the game. Especially while playing the super squishy Colonial Marine. I always hated their campaigns. I would freak out when an Alien or a Predator would attack out of nowhere. My greatest moment was in AvP 2

Spoiler:

when the Marine was tasked with turning on some communications thing and the Predator shows up on top of the tower and starts to shoulder cannon you from across the map.

I might have to check this one out.

Subscribing, cos I love me some Colonial Marines. I even had the first edition of the Technical Manual back in the day. Stupidly gave it away, first edition copies go for silly money now.

I went from being more excited about this than any other game maybe ever to being more and more skeptical with each and every gameplay trailer.

I'm hoping for a demo to sway me.

I liked how the early-aughts AvP2 let you chew your way out of some asshole's chest. Om nom nom nom. The multiplayer was extremely tight and satisfying, too.

I always played the mode that pitted a lone alien against a group of marines, and every time the alien killed a marine that player would respawn as an alien. They had a ton of options for multiplayer, too. You could pit any species against any other species, including marines versus Weyland-Yutani mercenaries. Didn't make any sense but who cares, it was fun.

I remember once I got a kill streak as an alien and dove into a vent for cover, just as I got my kill streak reward: mutating into a gigantic alien queen. I... got stuck in the vent.

I've felt largely the same. Demo impressions from Pax, E3, etc. have been pretty lukewarm, but I have to admit the trailer in the OP above is some of the best footage I've seen thus far.

Maybe Gearbox can pull out a miracle, 'cause the project has seemed troubled for a long time, based on the reels they've released.

I seem to be the only person that left PAX East with a positive impression, though it was a very controlled environment. You got to watch them play a portion of the single player campaign, watched some of the devs play as Aliens, then you yourself got to play as marines.

I felt it controlled nicely as a marine and I found it did a good job of encouraging marines to play in a group while the Gearbox players used the environment to make shortcuts to get to us. It was a good time.

I'll probably get this on 360 as well. Definite day one purchase for me.

I'm torn between PC and Wii U. A decent motion detector implementation on the Gamepad will probably swing me to the Wii U. That, and having another game for the Wii U, anyway.

If you're interested in the multiplayer, go PC. I'm sure you'll be able to double-dip fairly inexpensively down the road, as that does sound interesting.

Definitely curious, but going to wait for some reviews. If it's L4D-ish and doesn't suck, I'm totally sold.

I am pretty sure I am going to roll the dice for day one purchase - I will let you 360 potatoheads know how it plays.

I pre-ordered it at GMG for about $35. I'm willing to take that much of a risk.

I think the coop is just the main campaign with up to 4 people. The L4D mode you heard about is probably Escape mode. 4 marines versus 4 aliens.

From what I've seen the co-op is going to be drop-in/drop-out as opposed to L4D-style co-op (4 always present characters, controlled by AI when not controlled by a player). The campaign is going to be geared to a single player more than to co-op (more like Halo than Borderlands).

GMG 30% coupon: GMG30-ALIEN-SDEAL

Okay. I did it. Ordered using the 30% off coupon from GMG.

I didn't want to use GMG again after my Batman fiasco. I didn't want to pre-order this after the major disappointment of the last AvP. But I did it anyway. I.... I just couldn't help myself.

I can say it was the co-op. I can say Gearbox has done well before. The truth is that I just that I want to play a good "Aliens" game again so _much_.

(Please don't be crap!)

I used to play a pretty sweet Aliens game on my Jaguar back in the day

Even if it's crap, I'll play with you, Toast. We can wander the poorly rendered corridors, killing non-threatening and obvious enemies with wimpy-sounding guns whose muzzle flare fills the entire screen, and whenever one of us sees something slightly less mediocre we can point it out to the other and say, "look, there. That's where my money went. We love this game. We love it."

Lobster, once again you are my hero. Thanks. You can be my wingman any time.

A bit bold to wish for things, but I really hope they use a darkness mechanic with the ability to take out lights. Something I loved in the first AvP was how you were invisible to non-marine humans in the dark, and you could knock out all the lights in a room to create that situation.

There were many improvements in AvP 2 but indestructible lights in most spots was a real let-down.

Weyland-Yutani... Building Better Worlds and light fixtures

New trailer out, showing details on what looks to be a somewhat Left 4 Dead-inspired multiplayer:

I'm kind of happy that they aren't sticking slavishly to the canon (the closest any alien in any movie ever came to using their acid blood offensively was in one of the AvP movies, where it lost the tip of its tail). I'd rather have a game that's fun to play than one that's strictly loyal to the source material. Not that it's impossible to make a game that's both fun and "accurate."
