NFL 2012 Conference Week Thread

49ers at Falcons: Matt Ryan got his playoff win, but Colin Kaepernick is the sensation that's sweeping the nation. The good news for Atlanta is that John Abraham is likely to be back, after missing last week against Seattle. The 49ers, however, have to be feeling good about their matchup, as Atlanta seemingly lacks the power in their front 7 to stand up to the 49er offensive line. In Kaepernick I trust. 49ers.

Ravens at Patriots: Another postseason, another playoff win for Joe Flacco. Sports talk radio has Flacco pegged as a borderline elite QB again. The Ravens do have an uncanny ability to match up with a Patriots team that lays waste to other squads. I'm calling for the Harbaugh Bowl, give me the Ravens.

Since the Broncos are out I can deviate my other picks. 49ers. Ravens. Harbaugh Bowl that we should have had last year.

49ers
Ravens

It's what I want, so it's what I'm going with. I think they're 49ers are the better team and while the Ravens usually play the Pats tough I simply want them to win. So sick of the Ravens almost getting back to the Super Bowl.

Harbadass

49ers at Falcons: I really hope the Falcons lose. I don't dislike them, I just find them to be such a boring team to watch.

Ravens at Patriots: I always pick the Patriots in every playoff game in the hopes that they lose. I have been doing it since the Giants-Patriots 2007 season Superbowl and it has worked well.

SF, Ravens

Yeah, Denver losing hosed any hope I had. Speaking of which, why are you tallying up 5 games where there were only four? I should be 2-2, not 2-3.

Regardless:
49ers
Ravens

I, too, would like to see a Harbowl.

zomg... I can't take another Patriot SB... where are the damn snipers!??

edit

How where there 5 games last week??

It seems like whatever script Legion uses to gather the data is looking for 5 bolded teams, and because there were only 4 teams it's counting the missing team as a loss. I ran the numbers myself, and if you subtract one loss from everyone's record you get the correct numbers. The question is if he accounted for that when he compiled the Season to Date portion.

Actually, it's much simpler than that. The script simply counts wins, losses are displayed by calculating 5-minus-(wins).

Fixed it to 4-minus-(wins) and re-pasted.

That would be an obnoxious script to write. You would need to spend so much time on dictionaries for each team to account for variations on team names and cities. Accounting for abbreviations, spelling variations, typos, and nicknames seems obnoxious.

See? There you go! Admittedly, I know very little about programming/writing code.

Everyone picking the 49ers, I should probably switch my vote.

I cant see a way the 49ers lose that doesn't involve them vomiting all over themselves. EG. muffed punts, refs getting overly involved etc They are just pretty much better than the Falcons in every way I can think of.

Patriots game is interesting only because even as bad as the Ravens have been all year at times they know this Patriots team very well. Was honestly surprised when the line opened at 9.5. Sure the Pats have the firepower to win by 10+ but it has the feel that it should be a close one.

I think I'm rooting for ... two good games.

Don't really care who wins. Would like to see ATL win one (they deserve some good luck after the Eugene Robinson bowl), but love to see Kaepernick play.

Brady could use a SB win for his legacy -- he has three rings but none since 2005. And a Flacco win would blow our collective minds.

Yeah 9.5 seems way to high considering the two teams recent history. Yes the Patriots offense and defense is better then the last time they met but so is the Ravens offense and their defense seems to have found a new spark. I wonder what the spread would have been if the Patriots were heading to Denver.

Edit: Thinking about it more it's probably mostly because what happened in Denver. Denver pretty much gave that game up. At least a couple of Flacco's airballs could have easily been turnovers too. I still wouldn't bet on the Pats covering that spread though.
