Not seeing it yet on Steam. I'll just content myself with reading the patch notes.

Just buy it off of GMG, which activates on Steam, and get 20% off the main DLC.

When the patch goes live what are the chances it'll break current games? I don't know paradox's track record with such things.

My Sweden one is still going well, although decision paralysis has kept me away from it for a couple of weeks.

I am playing my old Navarra game for two days with the patch, no problems. I also just installed Republic and apart from the new interface options no gameplay issues experienced.

Awesome, thanks WT.

Ok, so, they asked 512meg video card for the windows version, and 1 gig for the Linux version?

Wow.. Not laptop friendly as I see.

out of stock

So a couple of changes I've noticed in my Quest for Britannia game. I've gotten requests from people to block merchants from my territory. Thing is, I'm way up in Ireland so I've had no interaction with them anyway.

Other is that I was able to create the title of Irish Band. This made available to me a 5000+ unit mercenary unit that costs nothing to hire, though it does have a monthly fee. Also, the regular merc troops are growing well beyond their previous sizes. The two or three 75 gold merc troops now number somewhere around 3000 and previously I think the highest I'd ever seen them was around 1800.

So that's what you get. I didn't notice the mercenaries that came with the Irish Band title. Maybe now it will be easier to wrest control of the northern counties that Scotland grabbed. That will still leave one county that ended up in the HRE and that will likely never be mine.

Of course I'll have to fabricate titles to those counties and keep my ruler alive long enough to declare war over them. That's been the biggest struggle so far this game; getting the chance to press claims before my king dies and the non-inheritable claims evaporate.

There's also a Scottish Band which I believe does the same.

So how do you set up your own retinue? Standing armies, I mean. Isn't that one of the newer features? I have not found a way to do this...

Do you mean how do you get them, or what are the actual mechanics of doing it ?

I was going to type an explanation, but this LP video is a bit more detailed

Click the Military icon at the top of the map. I think at the top of the Levies page there's an area to add to your Retinue. You can only add in discrete "chunks" and the "chunks" are pre-defined. So you can add 100 Heavy Inf. and 400 Archers, 400 Heavy Inf. and 100 Archers, 100 Heavy Cav and 400 Light Cav., etc.

Each unit type costs against a retinue pool differently. So Heavy Inf. cost 3 retinue units from the pool, IIRC. Your retinue pool is limited and I cannot remember how exactly off the top of my head, though there's a tool-tip that explains it.

Note that you will be charged while the retinue "fills up" as well as when created (again IIRC) - unlike the other forces in the game, they don't just show up when summoned; it takes time (and money) for your retinues to gather strength. Once filled, the retinue is maintenance free though until you need to replenish after a war.

Edit: Davethausered!

Thanks guys, Nigh... Tboon answered it.

Hi folks - I read some of the tales on this page, and they actually made me register for the purpose of sharing the story of my own, very first game. All was going so well, until it failed EPICALLY. What an awesome game...

That was a blast to read. Thanks for joining up with the community and sharing the story; pull up a chair by the fire and stick around!

Suffered a brief setback in my pursuit of Britannia. I like the flexibility of elective monarchy, but when you run three kingdoms, this can be a real problem. I had two rulers die in quick succession. For the second, the dukes of Scotland and Wales had picked my preferred heir -- my brother -- however in Ireland the vote was for my sister when I passed. Since Ireland was my primary title, suddenly I lost Scotland and Wales and was left trying to figure out the best way to get them back.

I considered war, but war on an ally is not ideal. In the end, I managed to get enough votes to name the new King of Scotland (my nephew) as my heir. When my Queen of Ireland died unexpectedly, I found myself once again in control of all three kingdoms.

It's a prestige knock, but why not destroy the problem titles? I've destroyed Denmark and Norway in my Sweden game.

I'll need at least 2 kingdom titles in order to create the Britannia empire.

I've not had chance to start a new game since getting the DLC and patch 1.09, but I've seen a Let's Play where it's been suggested that demesne control limits have been nerfed. Can anyone confirm this ?

Nerfed feels like the wrong word, but yes. The effect of stewardship on demesne size has been reduced. I believe there was a second factor that was reduced as well. The base demesne size for rank (ie, count, duke, king, etc) has been increased. The goal seems to have been to try to force you more into handling vassals then being able to rely on a large amount of personal holdings. In my current Scotland game, my ruler's stewardship was crap, but with a decent wife and steward his max allowed holdings were at 12 (out of which I actually owned 9). After the patch, that was reduced to 6. I was mostly afraid that this would greatly reduce my incoming cash. This did eventually occur, but not until the succession when the next ruler was fairly unpopular.

Damn, my Danish eugenics experiments have been nerfed then!

Ah, makes sense.

Just spitballing, but you could destroy the titles, then create them right when you're ready to create the Empire.

Guys, does anyone else have the issue where all of the Crests/Shields don't show up? Mine are just straight up black. For everyone.

Edit: I'm dumb. They're called Coats of Arms (duh! my British Empire teacher would flay me for that) and after remembering that, a quick Google got me http://forums.steampowered.com/forum.... The tl;dr is delete the folder Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\gfx

The 50 point hit to vassal opinion is pretty huge.

You could also die before the titles were re-created, leaving someone else to usurp them from your heir.

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial? I've reread the tutorial three times and I've click stuff and then got killed in the single player.

I found this and am following along with it while doing single player. http://lparchive.org/Crusader-Kings-2/Update%2001/. Please be aware that it's been written for an older version of CK2 than the current version, so buttons will be missing / moved, and characters will have slightly different stats than what's in the tutorial above, but nothing that hinders the explanations.

So far it's doing a bang up job explaining the basics of it. There's some questions I have about smaller things like "how do I raise my piety", but I am sure a quick google search will clear that up.

Here's what I have:

But I would really love a multiplayer game over Ventrillo. Who's up for that?

I would be up for that, with the following provisos: 1) I'm a n00b (I'm in the middle of my second single-player campaign; 2) I don't know how Ventrillo works (very willing to learn, just need a little help); and, 3) I'm available at odd hours, that is, about 9 p.m. to midnight Mountain time.
