NFL 2012 Divisional Week Thread

I didn't include Bradford and Freeman because I think they're fairly entrenched where they are. Freeman did have a bit of a melt-down at the end of the season, but he and Bradford would have to be in my top 10 for build-around QBs.

I clearly am . . . less than impartial regarding Mr. Freeman, but let's remember the guy has two of the best guards in the game on that offensive line and, by late season, both were on IR. Freeman sucks when he gets pressure up the middle, and "up the middle" was a racetrack by the end of the year. Once teams started shooting up the gut against the subpar guys manning the interior line, it went to crap pretty quickly.

Bradford's had his moments of decency, but he's never had the blessing of Megatron or A.J. Green. Throw in a declining Steven Jackson, and, outside of Amendola, not a lot of firepower. Bad line as well.

Bradford and Freeman are both players that their teams should develop further and build around, and see how far they can still go.

Crying from laughing so hard.

Chip Kelly from Oregon to the Eagles, according to Chris Mortenson.

Good news for LeSean McCoy.

arghh...the one guy I really did not want... Not a fan of "gimmick" offenses.

Didn't he just say he was staying at Oregon? Like, a week ago?

Yes, one really can't believe what coaches say anymore.

Every offense is a gimmick until it wins the big one. Nick Saban told reporters he hates the hurry-up spread offense. Bet he hates it even more after A&M beat him with it.

Wouldn't be surprised if he caught wind of something nasty in the NCAA's investigations that made him reconsider.

I am kind of intrigued to see what he comes up with. The only thing I am sure I will see from his offense is a fast pace, which can definitely work. If he wants to run the ball as much as he does in college, Bryce Brown is going to have to learn to hold onto the ball because Shady McCoy is going to need a rest every now and again.

and I wonder where Vick is going to fit into this, or if he will rather.

In so much that I would rather have a "traditional" balanced offense built around a pocket QB with "pocket" awareness. Not a fan of any offense that is predicated on my QB taking more hits than he would traditionally take. Gimmick offenses aren't anything new.... one could argue that the so called West Coast Offense was at one point a gimmick.. but I tend to view Gimmick offenses as far more "off the beaten path" than the West Coast was at one point.

These new gimmicks are kinda like the Run and Shoot (duck and chuck) in that you gain some good success but with major deficiencies that good teams can exploit.

Bear's have hired Marc Trestman for HC. Who wasted no time to hire Aaron Kromer (Saints interim HC and o-line coach) as OC and O-line and Joe DeCamillis as ST coach.

I like how this is shaping up. Trestman is a bit of gamble but I think the payoff could be worth it.
In Emery we trust!

Vick is so fragile that a Chip Kelly offense would get him killed. I'd like to believe Kelly will look at RGIII's knee and say, "You know, maybe these things won't work in the NFL", but you never know.

Also, i can't believe I'm seriously discussing a grown man named "Chip" who walks around wearing a visor.

Not really a gimmick offense. Read this.

Vick's injury history would be a concern regardless of the scheme he is in, true enough. That said, there is something to be said for being prepared to take a hit, rather than sitting in the pocket and getting hit blind side. Course, if Vick wouldn't hold the ball for 10 seconds he would take less hits, but that's another conversation.

I think the offense can work in the NFL, but you have to have the personnel to run it. I am expecting less mesh runs and more of the screen game. But that's just first thoughts.

Chris "Smart Football" Brown breaks down the Pats' terminology.

Warning: Very geeky. But very interesting.

I'm trying to decide which is the better band name: "3 Out Slot Hat" or "Ghost Tosser."

idk...Football people I respect are calling this the "biggest coaching disaster ever.."

I like that the article recognizes that Brady wasn't an individual star early on, despite the level of praise that was thrown his way.

Brady is one of those guys that got more credit than he deserved early on, but ultimately grew into it. Russell Wilson kind of reminds me of that right now. Too much of Seattle's success is pinned on him, but he may eventually develop into the guy he's already being credited as being.

Clearly...since the Tuck Rule wasn't so much about Brady back then...but rather that no one liked Al Davis.

So, Manti Te'o had a truly inspirational story this year of how his girlfriend died, but asked him to keep playing. Problem? It was all a hoax for publicity.

BRILLIANT.

Wow. It'll be fascinating to see how the NCAA reacts to that news. I also found it odd that Te'o opted out of the pro-bowl.

He wants less game film of him missing tackles.

I just hope the NFL Network's Combine coverage this year features live broadcasts of his interviews with NFL teams just so I can watch him try to explain this one.

@Boogle, I would expect that any true competitor would want to redeem himself after a bad performance leading up to the NFL draft. If I were a scout, this would bother me more than having another set of bad game tape. Is it too soon to start a Vontaze Burfict-esque draft stock meltdown watch?

EDIT: This just gets crazier. A statement from Notre Dame claims:

ND wrote:

Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died.

I refuse to believe that he didn't know this Lennay Kekua never existed. Especially considering the tweets to and from her 'sister.'

Apparently his instincts with women are just as lousy as his instincts for tackling.

Heeeeyyyyooooooooooooooooooooooooo . . .

I found the whole statement.

On Dec. 26, Notre Dame coaches were informed by Manti Te’o and his parents that Manti had been the victim of what appears to be a hoax in which someone using the fictitious name Lennay Kekua apparently ingratiated herself with Manti and then conspired with others to lead him to believe she had tragically died of leukemia. The University immediately initiated an investigation to assist Manti and his family in discovering the motive for and nature of this hoax. While the proper authorities will continue to investigate this troubling matter, this appears to be, at a minimum, a sad and very cruel deception to entertain its perpetrators.

EDIT:

Some guy on twitter wrote:

Manti Te'o wasn't missing tackles in the national championship, he was hugging his girlfriend!
