Boston, MA Area GwJr's

Just wanted to drop this party invite. A bar in my new neighborhood is doing a costume night this Friday.

"AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!
Jump on the nearest jet, motorcycle or batmobile and rocket over to Bella Luna Restaurant & The Milky Way Lounge on Friday November 30th for its 19th anniversary WE CAN BE HEROES Superhero Costume Birthday Bash. Dress up as your favorite superhero or create your own--$75 cash prize for best costume. Next-door neighbor and event sponsor Boston Beer will be on hand sampling Sam Adams Whitewater IPA. Demonstrate your superpowers on the dance floor w/ the Milky Way's monthly resident DJs, Brent Covington from Boyfriends and DJ Stella from La Boum. This event is free and open to the public, 21+, music starts at 10 pm."

Anyone interested? More info here.

I've been to the Bella Luna before while waiting for my tour of the Sam Adams brewery. I remember it being very small, but easily accessible from the T.

Anyone want to do some kind of local board game swap? I have a few that haven't worked out for my wife and I that I wouldnt mind trading for something that might suit us better. Most of these are just better as group games than 2 player.

Wiz War
Mad Zeppelin
Citadels
Arkham Horror (no expansions)
Mid-evil
Traitor
Heap

At the Hobbit S&T, we briefly discussed some sort of regular/semi-regular tabletop/board-game event. Anyone have any interest in following up on that? I'd be happy to help organize.

I tend to be busy, but I would be interested if it happened to fit into my schedule.

All the yeses! Especially if we could do it someplace where we could also be drinking

Sounds more like a required parameter to me.

I'm in southern nh, but work in Waltham, so would potentially be interested depending on location and timing. I has games and like drinking!

Hey, Waltham! Where do you work?

In the MGH building. Where are you?

First time in 3 years that I'm missing working off Trapelo Rd/north of the reservoir...

Would make this whole thing so much easier instead of commuting down from Lowell/Nashua.

The Watch Factory, driving in from near 495 every morning.

I'm very much interested in participating irregularly

Actually, holding it up near there would be easier for me, since I live in Londonderry.

I'm in Medford so I can do Northern MA or something closer to Boston pretty easily. Or toward Framingham/Worcester like that summer picnic thing last year.

You have my sword! (For a regular gaming event)

Also, idea for some: I know Irish, athas, and I getting the reaper bones kickstarter. What if we have some sort of painting night with games for those not painting in March/April?

Any skiing Goodjers? Might be fun to organize a trip to a local mountain.

I was hoping someone else might step up to the reigns for a future board-game night, but it looks like I can just default to that. I need feedback from you guys to help me figure this out.

What upcoming weekend works best for everyone?
What neighborhood/venue works well for everyone?

We can discuss games and such after logistics are settled.

EDIT: @HipGamer, I would consider skiing but I have two qualms. My own skis are at my parents's house in upstate NY and I have an old knee injury that can flare up in the cold.

@S0LIDARITY, I would love a board/card game night, but alas, being married to a wife that works nights, with two kids. I really don't have the opportunity to venture far from my house. I wouldn't mind having a couple people over, but then that is not fair to others since I could mainly only host about 3 people.

I really hope it works out, and wish you were closer ( btw, I live in Franklin, which is south, just above Rhode Island ).

I had a moderately sized gathering at my house this past weekend (mostly old friends I haven't seen in a while), and it worked out great. My ex should have the kids February 1st, and I would be happy to host a handful of you guys for some 7 Wonders, Dominion (Intrigue and Seaside), Flashpoint, X-Wing Miniatures, Dungeon Command, Smallworld and Waterdeep. I live near Worcester, so it would be a bit of a drive for a lot of you, but if you are interested, let me know.

TheGirlNerd and I are up for games Atras.

Those games all sound fun but Im particularly interested in trying Xwing. I been wanting to see how that is.

I am 20 minutes south of Worcester but work in Boston, so anywhere I can drive to in under an hour is good for me. I realy want to try some RPG's but have been hessitant to show up to Battlegrounds in Plainville or a place down in RI without knowing anyone. I was thinking that why not try some Online stuff to get it started and then maybe do like a monthly "in the flesh" gathering. Just throwing ideas around.

I also would like to do just board games too.

Tonight looks like it isn't going to work out, anyway, but I am up for trying again another time. We must live really close to each other, because I am at most 10 minutes South of Worcester, I will PM you my cell, I might be trying out the new Star Wars RPG this Saturday.

Overall I would suggest not starting with Online stuff for role playing games. Depending on the tools being used, playing on-line can either mask rules and stunt your understanding of the system or over-complicate rules and lessen the fun factor. I also feel like most on-line RPG games expect some familiarity with the game. TempleCon should be going on soon, there are usually some RPGs there (not that it lessens the don't know people aspect) and TotalCon is coming up - I will likely be going to that for the D&D Battle Interactive.

TemplateCon is this weekend (started today), down in Warwick, RI.

I've only been for one day last year, and going for one day tomorrow. From what I've seen, it's mostly minis wargaming (large Privateer Press Warmachine/Hordes presence, some GW/Warhammer stuff), boardgames, and steam/diesel/space/apocolypse-punk cosplay.

If RPGs happen at TempleCon, it's probably because it was arranged before hand. Its much easier to have "show up and play" for board games than it is for RPGs, except in some certain games that are mostly player-driven.

So Harpoon just opened a beer hall...?

A friend posted a Phoenix article about this "coming soon", and then I saw postings on Twitter from Harpoon saying it opened tonight.

Seats 300 people, modeled after a traditional German beer hall. All they serve is Harpoon beer (at $5-6/pint) and pretzels (including working on gluten-free pretzels).

Too bad it closes horribly early (11p on Thur/Fri/Sat), but might be a decent place to get together for board gaming during the day on the weekends.

Everything you just said (minus the closing time) is awesome.

I'd be down for this.

Agreed, sounds like a great plan! Just bring paper towels to ensure the tables are completely dry first...

I do recall a conversation in the IRC on Friday about "adult play mats" for...stuff...that might be useful in this situation...
