Michigan Mini Slap&Tickle Thread

I would try it. Let's shoot for this upcoming Saturday.

I'll possibly be bringing a friend as well. Will update later in the week.

Ooh fresh meat

Going to have to bow out for this Saturday--whatever black death plague thing I seem to have contracted should probably just be contained to my house and not passed on to the rest of you guys. Have fun, though!

Feel better - I just went through that mess a week and a half ago.

Today's the day when things fall into place.

We were boring and just played three games of 7 Wonders today (two with the leaders expansion). Jow crushed us with like 94 points one game (science super strat), but the other two games were close.

We're going to try to get Libertalia to the table two weeks from now on Saturday the 19th same bat place same bat time.

Strange games - the first two I tried some different things and fell flat on my face, coming in distant last like 20-30 points behind the winner both times... only to chalk up 71 science points in the last game with the aid of leaders that gave me a protractor and gear symbols.

If you guys want to do the 19th you can go ahead but it turns out I'll be out of town that weekend.

Gah, it's looking like I won't be able to make it this weekend

sounds like this might not be happening unless someone else pipes up...

If anyone wants to pull patents for me, for free, I might have some time this weekend. Otherwise, I have a lot to do. Changing my wife's name on Saturday.

Pull them?

How about February the 2nd?

Locate them based on registration number, and then download them. That will be my Sunday afternoon in a nutshell. But wait, it gets better. I may get a chance to break that up by getting legislative history on the US Copyright Act. Anyone want to help me get session notes to properly transcribe from a PDF into workable and editable text for those pre 1990?

Don't get me started on the debaucherous hoot my last Saturday was curled up with my Veteran's Benefit Manual. Juan Borgia could only dream of the depravity.

Are you just using Public PAIR?

I am looking up 20 odd granted patents, not applications. So it would be with USPTO numbers. The search is essentially the same as Public PAIR, just a different link. Mostly this is to do the client's diligence on "prior art."

I like copyright a lot more. Patents can be frustrating.

You know what I do, right?

Don't you just screw around on the Internet all day?

I do. Is there some way I can blame you for the ancient script that is the USPTO website and registration system? I expect that the site will have alternating blinking text, and will change my cursor to an American Flag.

It almost makes me grateful that Patent and Mark firms won't touch me without an engineering degree. Doing this on contract is headache enough.

Move to Sweden.

Does the 2nd sound feasible for everyone?

I'm in a holding pattern for a date of a big LAN event in February so can't commit yet but i should hopefully know soon.

I cannot do the second. I have a baby shower to attend.

We're doing board games in akron on the second if anyone wants to take the trip out.

road trip?!

The 2nd works for me, and the wife is even willing to show up for a little bit!

Awesome. 2nd at noon at the comic book shop it is. Thanks for the offer though, Oils.

Thanks for coming out!

We played:

Lords of Waterdeep
----
Cpt, Jow and I played this one, which ended up being decided by literally one point in my favor over Jow. There may have been a series of manuevers Jow could have accomplished on the last turn that would have led him to victory...but he didn't see the path forward at the time. It was only his first time so I think he'll crush us next time. There were a lot of intrigue cards acquired and played this time around, making it a bit more flavorful and interactive that the usual Waterdeep game.

Reiner Knizia's Modern Art
----
Jow taught myself, KingSolKanar, Cpt and Mrs. Cpt this fun auction game. I haven't played a Knizia game I didn't like, and this was definitely no exception since I also love auction games. I ended up pulling this one out in the end by a narrow margin over Jow again fueled by THE RISE OF KRYPTO and mainly making my money by being a seller, not a big buyer throughout the game.

Libertalia
----
Finally got this to the table after getting it for Christmas. The four of us (minus Jow who had to duck out) had a great time playing this, and it went by a lot faster/smoother than I thought based on the aborted game Cpt and I were a part of during PenCon (I think that one took over an hour for the first week, and this one took an hour for the entire three weeks including 2 completely new players). I got an early lead with careful use of night power cards and ended up coasting to a victory since the last round didn't yield many points for anyone due some weak booty and low yield characters.

We'll try to do something on the 16th, since I'll have a friend in town who is interested in joining us. If we get at least a third I'd say we're on.

I caught up with some high school chums who might come out to the next one. If we are set on the 16th, I will ask them along.

i won't be able to make it the 16th - big lan that weekend. i'll likely make the next one.
