Dark Souls Catch-All

Interesting. Sorcery vendors only disappear

Spoiler:

if you buy all their stuff

.

A certain little three-year-old blonde girl took a nap, and I finally cleared Sen's Fortress. It feels good. It feels like progress again.

I summoned a dude twice in a row to beat the Fortress Boss. I died on the first try, but I had a ton of humanity, and maybe he was grinding?

I love that this game has little ways of giving you rewards.

What's that? You want to know how far you've come? Here's a guy who used to be a terrifying boss. We're just going to toss him in with rest so you can utterly destroy him on the first try. You're welcome.

Did you summon Iron Tarkus?

Second bell rung. Now what? Seems like there are a lot of places I can explore, and a lot of hiking to get to any of them besides the Demon Ruins where I am now.

I now have enough endurance to use the Elite Knight armor set effectively. How does that work exactly? It looks like you need to keep your equipment weight at 50% or less maybe?

I love the look of the set. I think I'll continue to upgrade it. I have a ton of different armor sets at this point.

Go Kill Ceaseless Discharge and grab the Gold-Hemmed set. Then you can go to Darkroot and do some things or proceed to Sen's Fortress.

You don't have to keep under 50%, but it is generally advised for mobility purposes. The 3 levels of mobility are under 25% load, under 50% load, and over 50% load. Unless you're going for a super tank build, under 50% is wise. This is why Havel's Ring and Endurance upgrades are so nice.

Yup, that's it. If you equip past 100% things get really bad.

After the second bell, go to Darkroot Garden and join Alvina's covenant and go back and forth between co-op and invasions. It is full of players. It is great prep for Sen's.

Well when you rang the bell they showed that gate opening near Undead Parish blacksmith bonfire. That's an obvious choice.

But you can take the water wheel alternate exit out of Blighttown on your way back up and pick up a lot of cool stuff.

I...don't think I understood this post?

Is there any sort of level range I should be at for Dark Root Garden summoning? Was going to try to drop my sign tomorrow night to get some souls, I hear that you can get summoned into help with PvP a lot. I am a member of the forest covenant, is there a good place to put the sign?

For souls, do bosses, imho.

Past the door that opens with the Crest and then at the bottom of the stairs. If you join the Forest Hunters you will also be able to try invasions in the area too. Eventually you will likely get an indictment, opening yourself to Darkmoon invasions.

For the adjacent areas, just outside the bonfire before the Crest door is the summon spot.

I just did the raddest plunge attack ever in Blight Town. Got 2 of the Barbarians almost dead with the plunge blow. Finished them both off together with 1 thrust. It was immenently satisfying just beforehand.

Edit: Eek. Steam Browser.

That's the part I did understand.

Anyone know a Winterfist? Sent me an Xbox friend request, but no message saying who he is.

No. But I know his friend Summerhand.

Going to play Darkroot PvP and co-op until I can carry the Eagle Shield. That should get me protection I need for lighting.

you know what, I might have. Did he have the stone armor and a giant effing Axe?

<3 Iron Tarkus.

That's Iron Tarkus. He's an NPC phantom that has a sign in the tower to the right of the fog door. He's really effective against the Sen's Fortress boss. I don't think he shows up anywhere else.

Oh. No. This was definitely another player.

Got my new Dex ninja through Capra Demon tonight. Did tons of co-op on Gargoyles and Capra. Uchi is +5 now.

Saw some interesting stuff I'd never seen before - which happens frequently; this game is SO deep. People talk about it and think about it like it's an MMO. It has so much in common with them.

I saw a player or two wearing the Sealer set and wielding the Tin Banishment Catalyst, which is a long metal pole - I'd never seen it before. I probably had it on my sorceror, but didn't bother with it because it's MagAdj wasn't attractive.

I saw one player I did Gargoyles with who was, presumably, so far along that he'd done the Dragon covenant enough to transform his head and start breathing fire.

I saw a Pyromancer I summoned to my game throwing spells around like there was no limit - on the trash leading up to Gargoyles. Seemed weird.

Protip: Please, when you are summoned into someone else's boss fight that has a cutscene (Gargoyles, Gaping Dragon, etc.), hit Start to skip the scene. The game only skips it if everyone hits Start, so you're not screwing the host. I, for one, have seen the cutscenes as much as I want, and would love to be able to skip them in my own game - if my summoned phantoms would oblige me.

When I play it appears that the cutscenes only occur when the summoner is tackling the boss for the first time. I think it is up to host on the PS3 and they can only skip if they have seen it once.

It's not operating by water. If you look closely you'll see it's being run by one of the demon dogs in a gigantic hamster wheel. Wanna talk about thankless work?

Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'll give Valley of the Drakes some investigation next.

There's also a way back up to Firelink pretty much directly across the Valley of the Drakes from where you exit Blighttown.

Currently halfway through catacombs, will go back and have another crack at Four Kings afterwards based on the advice

That's not the case. You must never have died on a cutscene boss - bravo - but it took me three shots to do Gaping Dragon on my Strength character. Three times, with three cutscenes I couldn't skip because my co-op partners didn't vote to.

I didn't know you could skip a cutscene. I had tried pressing every button on the controller the first few times I got summoned and nothing happened, so I didn't bother trying down the road.

Blighttown not fun, just annoying.

I'm having a nice relaxing day replaying ME3 on insanity. I think I'll put off Dark Souls until tomorrow. :)

Hmm, I seem to be one of the only people that really liked both Sen's and Blighttown. I love them for the same reason that Tower of Latria is such an incredible place in Demon's Souls, atmosphere and fear of the unknown.

I do appreciate the atmosphere, I just didn't find "where's the ladder" a very fun game to play, and bugs are annoyingly hard to hit. Also, unlike previous areas, there's some odd brightness filters going on that occasionally (and inconsistently) makes it impossible to see 3 feet in front of me.

Spoiler:

(I might have just quit the game if toxic snipers respawned with everyone else.)

psoplayer you just saved my sanity... I had no idea about that spoiler'd information, you have just super amped my desire to get back in and play some more!!

Yeah, I would have appreciated a big "BYO Moss" sign on the entrance to Blighttown. 1000 souls for a single blooming purple clump is a lot when your 30k bloodstain is at the foot of a toxin sniper.

Spoiler:

I ended up doing a lot of suicide sprints up into their face just because I knew I only needed to do it once. Also they occasionally drop blooming moss, so you might actually get away with your stupidity.

Most of the time I just died to the toxin while trying to find the moss in my list of items.
