The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Catch-All

Yep, what Prozac said. Personally, I leveled up Illusion for the Calm an Frenzy spells, but you could put points into pickpocketing instead, which can let you do fun things like drop a vial of poison in someone's pocket and watch their health start going down. Lockpicking is considered part of the stealth skills but I never put any points in it.

Well the obvious answer is Bosmer, archery, stealth, light armour. Each Elder Scrolls race kind of has an archetypal playstyle it lends itself to but really just choose whatever race you want they can all do the same thing. Bosmer will just get you a headstart with your bows and lorewise it sounds like what you're going for. Just don't eat any plants. Only people :)

Nice one, didn't even consider Stealth, but thinking about it, it sounds like a good choice.

I saw that they added cross bows - are they better than normal bows? What are the draw backs/advantages?

EDIT: Ill probably level up Smithing too, as I've enjoyed making my own armour, feels gooooood

I never got any lockpicking perks either, I thought the minigame was good and I didn't really have any issues opening Master locks - just maybe took 10 picks.

I heard something about getting training for pick pocketing, and then pick pocketing the trainer so you get all your money back - I need to try that hahaha

Just went to put the disc in and get the patch downloaded, when I saw this;

Its a sad day when Skyrim is at the bottom of the pile

Wait, you're playing AC3 before Revelations? No no no no no, switch 'em. Also, I'd probably chuck MW3 up the top since you'll finish the single player the quickest out of all those games.

There's a mod for that.

You know, I really wouldn't be surprised if there was.

I've already done Revelations, I've not played MW3 single player, and don't intend to, played the multiplayer allot though. It's just the order in which I've played them all recently. TBH I've not even played AC3, got it as a present for Christmas.

Your not missing out on much with AC3 unfortunately. Just play skyrim, you'll have a much better time!

Fireballs and dragons!

Yeah stealth is a huge multiplier if you want to go primarily archery. My nord warrior has archery as a secondary skill but I can't one-shot people like I could on my thief while hiding. If I remember correctly, archery can also help you level stealth just like backstabs.

Oh here's an update on my warrior. I tried sword and board and really like it. My only concern is I've already got 55 points in two handed and several perks. Is it too late to switch? Oh and I'm level 15.

I started playing at around 12:30pm today the next time I looked up it was 6pm and dark out side - I love this game.

The stealth bonus really helped, I cleared out an entire dungeon with one shot kills, except the boss which only took 3 anyway. I only need one more point in Stealth so I can get the perk that makes stealth archery 3x damage multiplier which will come in handy and, in a couple of levels time ill have the slow down time perk when you aim with the bow. I'm only level 9 at this point and it's going really well. I thought I might struggle with the bow but it's the opposite.

I've not put anything into light armour yet, but there's time and I've been concentrating on Smithing.

Does anyone know if you can craft your own bows? I know you can upgrade them on the grindstone but haven't seen an option to make one. Also, does anyone know at what point Crossbows become available - I'm interested to try them out.

Re Bows: when you reach the skill level in smithing to make elvish, dwarven or orcish armor, not sure which one goes first.
Re Xbows: you have Dawnguard installed right? if so you need to reach the dawnguard's Stronghold, I haven't seen crosbows on regular sellers like other regular weapons.

Ah, no I don't have Dawnguard, I thought they were just added in through one of the patches, didn't consider it was part of DLC - silly me

Ill keep working on my Smithing skill and see what pops up.

There's now a "dlcbeta" on steam (needs a password). Seems like it's coming.

I'm wondering whether I should give Skyrim a break and start fresh later on, fresh mod installs, etc, or to persist with my 'one save to rule them all' even if a few things have been broken along the way.

I finished "the dark brotherhood forever" mod earlier, which was pretty good. Onto moonpath to elswyr.

Since I'm playing it on the Xbox there's no mods are there some good ones out for the PC version? I know the Oblivion modding community was massive at the time.

I just started that one last night!

My early impressions are that the giant spiders are very annoying and the environments are beautiful. Deserts and jungles are a very refreshing change from Skyrim.

I can't play the game without certain mods.

I mean, Quintin's basement mod *alone* is worth buying the game all over again.

My field trip to High Hrothgar.

It is a stunning looking game isn't. I like to just look at the scenery sometimes - something that's sorely lacking in the Fallout series

A big reason why I can't even get into the new ones at all. And why I've somehow managed to sink 346 hours into Skyrim. The world itself just draws me in so much as it is the ideal fantasy landscape to me.

Damn that's ALLOT of hours, but I bet it didn't feel like it. Makes me a little disappointed I put it on the back burner for so long.

Haha, kiss-ass!

Ha! Ha! Surely you jest. "Too late to switch"? It is never too late to switch. I can't praise the upgrade flexibility of Skyrim enough. I switched from one-handed when I hit 100 at level 55; my two-handed is now 90+ at level 65. Level 15 is nothing. In fact, you're in the perfect place to still be dabbling. By all means switch—you've got plenty of progression to try both. And when you hit level 55, you can even switch back no problem.

I should feel more disappointed in the fact that I've not managed to make it past the third main quest or to complete more than 15 quests all together. Not to mention it is always the same quests!

I bought Dawnguard during the Steam sale, and feel like hunting some vampires. Is there a particular level or skillset that'll be especially suited to the main Dawnguard questline?

I have a battlemage (level 39, finished the College of Winterhold and main quest), a sword-and board heavy-armored fighter (level 22, finished the Companions and Civil War quests), and a stealth archer (also level 22, finished the Thieves' Guild quests).

Maybe not the stealth archer? You have a way of stumbling into vampire battles once things get rolling.

I know I posted a bunch of screnshots but geez, this is just amazing. The subtle distance blur just really gives it that extra oomph:

I played it for about 80 hours, and haven't even done the quest to go and see the Greybeards. For me its not even about the Main Quests, or even the side ones. I just like exploring and clearing out caves and mines etc. If I stumble upon a side quest then great.

I know TES games are happy to let you do whatever you want and not rush you, but it would be interesting to see them react a bit. I suppose there's a fine line between a quest prompting you to do that 'saving the world' thing and nagging.

They nagged you in Far Cry 3. So much so that as soon as they released a patch with an option to switch off the nagging, everyone did so. I'm pretty sure these kinds of games are just meant to be there for the player. Throw them in a world and let them have fun. If you impose some time limit, then my stress level increases and my fun level decreases. It's not why I play these kinds of games. Sure, the realism takes a hit, but again, I'm throwing fireballs at dragons and shouting giants off mountain tops; I'm pretty sure realism isn't what I signed up for.

That it really, it's incompatible with how they set up the TES games conventions. I can't think of a good way to do it without Delphine seeming needy or passive aggressive. The only other way I can think of is to have multiple routes into and through the main story, or use more big systems (things that happen anyway as you're doing whatever you're doing), but again, that would be different from the TES conventions, and seeing as they backed down from their claim of "you can affect a town's economy" is probably too big for them to do.

Well Pete Hines hinted on his twitter account that a new announcement on Dragonborn for PC and PS3 is on the horizon. Why that isn't mentioned anywhere on Bethesda's website/blog is an excellent question open for speculation.

Have you ever heard the phrase "A watched pot never boils"?
