Jobs of Gamers

My lord there are allot of lawyers here

I work for a large institutional bank, in ""account development"" which means I try to figure out ways to wring more money out of clients, preferably ways which don''t involve (much) violence.

But I''m a Lawyer-to-be. I''ve already got an MBA, but what I want to do is IP Law, so I''m back in school.

My wife says I''m a professional student. At school, they call guys like me ""career criminals"".

I just left a job where I was the lead metallurgist (by default - I was the only person there capable of performing the work). I performed failure analyses on a wide range of broken stuff from the surrounding chemical plants (in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi).

My family and I will be moving to Wyoming at the end of this month where I will be starting a job at a company that manufactures extensometers for the materials testing community. Since it''s a small company, I''ll have a wide variety of responsibilities from customer contacts to marketing material. We''re really looking forward to getting back to the Rocky Mountain region.

i am a mere helpdesk employee that got shafted out of a sweeter job because of some damn re-org along with 5 or 6 others. we are bitter and wish harm on our employers.

bit it''s all good.

<sic> this.

Business card says ""Director of Web Development"", but I''m mostly the web designer and main client contact for almost all of the web jobs that come through our little four-man multimedia firm. I also do graphics design for print and video projects here, and a bit of photography (what I actually went to school for). I like working for a small company and I like the constant changes in the types of projects that come through the door. And I work next to V-O from these forums (Mugebird the Shaman for you Ava Tarati guys, I was Harknel the Whiney Hunter).

This upcoming Saturday I''m starting a new job: husband.

Lastly, a friend and I have a very small game company (tabletop games, not computer ones) that I''m totally going to pimp here before the end of the year, when our product is ready.

Speaking of education, I was always fascinated with languages and my dream back in the adolescence was to study all kinds of exotic tongues and to master funky foreign grammars and things. I was realizing, however, that there isn''t going to be much money to be made in that.

So I went after my second passion, which was programming (as in software development). And the only viable education path towards this goal at that time was through Applied Mathematics. Now, did I ever HATE math!! Had to endure 5 years to get my MA though, just so that now I can sit here and write this wretched Perl script I am working on right now

Hey--I did note that I have been tagged as a ""language lawyer"".

Cool, you took the job in JH? I''m very envious.

Goodness, how middle-class can a forum be!
Not one mechanic, factory worker, coal miner or ship welder amongst us. Anyone work 6 months on an oil rig here? Meh!

I worked in sheet metal for 8 months. Saw one guy loose a finger and another almost his arm. During the winter the tips of your finger''s could come off when you touch the freezing metal while your manipulating it about. Production line of fast and furious work while tired and cold. Yet you better dang well stay focused or...as I mentioned abover or worse. Worse State Insurance around. Gawd, what a job that was...lol.

Anyway, at present I''m a Program Co-ordinator for the Advanced System''s Technology group at a major University. But that is a catch all title. I''m essentially a ''non union'' library specialist for a bunch of program analyst. I.e. I''m support staff.

I''ve put in about 14 year''s in library work at the university and a high tech company. Been mid manager in title insurance too. And this and that etc. And I''m a veteran. I''m looking at 9 years till retirement (if all went well), but probably will have to work till I drop dead But there''s alway''s hope!

Yeah - Jackson Hole here we come! Just in time for winter (I only hope that we make it before the first big snow). No idea how it will work out in the long run (hope for a long career there), but I think we would have always wondered ""what if"" if I had passed up the opportunity.
