Saints Row The Third Catch-All

At the end of the game (if you get the "Ganstas in Space" ending) there is a scene where your character is monologing and "forgets his line". Someone check me, but is he quoting the end of Red Faction: Guerrilla? ("I came to Mars looking for a new life...") They're both Volition games.

The start of RF1

edit: Or at least I thought.

Ignore the highlighted areas and head for freeway intersections, or freeways in general.

Yeah, the raised highways are the place to go. They have a ton of fast-moving traffic, all neatly arranged in a line.

The main antagonist of Saints Row 2 is Dane Vogel, CEO of the Ultor Corporation. There's a mountain in Red Faction Guerrilla called Mount Vogel, and the Ultor Corporation is the evil oppressive force against which you fight in the first Red Faction game. So, draw your own conclusions.

That said, I think that Volition has stated that the two games do not share a universe. It might be best to think of one as historical fiction for the other.

When you're in the studio between scenes in the Ganstas in Space DLC you can come across a "set" for what is obviously Red Faction. There's one of the robots there and your character comments that they wish they had a sledgehammer then says "Alec Mason is hot!" so there's already a connection there, I was just wondering if there's one at the end of the main game as well. I've uninstalled RF:G so can't check my own save.

Didn't the Saints Rows bought the Ultor corporation, and made a space program?

They are in the same universe, not in the same timeline.

http://redfaction.wikia.com/wiki/Ultor

The Ultor Corporation was founded in the early 21st century, as a small clothing company originating in the American mid-western town of Stilwater, MI. Though already slowly broadening out into other markets and expanding itself, by for example creating the Ultor Dome in the city, the company remained small and did not reach beyond Stilwater.[1]

They even speak from the merger of the Saint's and Ultor.. but then, it's a wikia, we must use this information with a pintch of salt.

Also, you can move your body toward other vehicles while in the air.

Yeah, the highway worked like a charm. After reaching level 20, I spent all night picking up all the collectibles.

One more I thing I love is the soundtrack. Especially K-12, the title track and the one that plays during crib takeovers (the same one as in the trailer on Steam I think).

I wish they had a bigger play list or the option to use your own music.

In the game, the Saints are actually the Saints / Ultor Media Group. The game is kicked off when the Syndicate launches a hostile takeover in order to gain their corporate assets.

Just curious but what's the word on Saint's Row 2? Is it worth playing? Comparable to 3 at all?

I loved SR2; the story part isn't vaguely as entertaining as SR3 (not much is), but the side mission aspects are actually better. There are a few extra side mission types in it; my favorite was Fuzz, where you're driving around with a TV crew who are trying to get exciting coverage for a Cops-style show. "Kids illegally skateboarding at the courthouse, let's use the rocket launcher this time". That sort of thing, just more goofy, over-the-top stuff. It's not as polished as SR3 and is really more of a parody of GTA-style games in general. Still loved it, though, was the reason I bought SR3 the day it came out.

I thought that Saints Row 2 had a much better line-up, especially when it came to 80's music. Nothing like raining helicopter missile death on a group of rival gang members while your character awkwardly sings, "Take On Me."

I think it is. I loved the hell out of SR2. The story wasn't as goofy, but I think it was better written and has some genuinely profound moments. You also get to see how the "Boss" meets and interacts with important characters from SR3, though they're a little different. Shaundi is a laid-back stoner, for instance, and her main role was gathering information (kind of like Kinzie).

The graphics aren't as pretty and the characters are uglier in general, but the clothing customization is far, far better. You can layer clothing and buy individual pieces of jewelry, so you can make your own look rather than pairing pre-made combinations.

It also has a lot of fun activities that weren't included in SR3, like one where a septic truck moves along a pre-determined route as you spray buildings, vehicles and people with sewage.

The console versions play just fine, but the PC port is pretty awful. There are fan patches out there that render it playable but you'll have to invest some time and effort to get them installed and properly configured (one is a CPU timing tweak that you basically need to eyeball). Once you get those dialed in it plays just as well as the console version.

On the plus side, you can mod the PC version with a huge "Gentlemen of the Row" fan patch that adds a bunch of cool tweaks.

SR3 is the only reason that I have this song on my regular playlist, or that I even knew it existed in the first place. (Warning: NSFW lyrics)

Another vote for SR2,
I played it twice and I say the story is much better in 2 then 3. Also the city feels a lot bigger, and general has more stuff. SR3 though is much more insane and crazy in a lot of ways. Oh and I liked the old voice actors better in 2 and now you'll know why everyone loves Gatt.

Quick question does the dialogue change depending on the voice you choose? I picked the latin female choice and some of the dialogue seems perfect for her tone.

Yeah, the female 1 option for my initial playthrough was pretty amusing. Highlights were meeting Burt Reynolds and the "acting" in Gangstas in Space.

So I just finished the story quest for the first third (I guess), the one where you add the 3 locals to your gang. What's a good point to play the missions of the 3 DLCs? I am at reputation level 27 now and making $40k. Have pretty much everything from my phone and pistols/SMGs fully upgraded.

DLC at the very end, imho.

Yes. The Genki DLC could be done earlier, but I wouldn't do the other two until after the main story is completed.

Really? That would be worth another play through!

I found myself way too attached to my boss' personality so it made it difficult to choose anything else.

Same here. I wrote months ago how I was more attached to this character than almost any video game avatar ever, which was a big surprise.

Putting my words in to say that SR2 is very good.

The first one not so much. It was very much a GTA clone. Took itself a little too serious to be memorable.

Woohoo, just 100%ed the last district. Time to continue the main story.
I decided not to do any of the car thefts though, since I don't enjoy driving most cars in this game. Until other stuff was automatically put in my garage, I basically only had motorcycles in there. So much faster and nimble. However, I do love my fully upgraded purple Peacemaker (police car). When you drive with the siren on, other cars actually pull over to let you through. Thought that was a nice touch.
I am also so-so on doing more assassinations (I did all 23 that were available in the first act). In a game where you can't do a mission/activity without killing dozens of people and I am close to an achievement of running over 500 people, assassination missions seem like an odd thing to have. Seems somewhat superfluous.

Oh, and kudos to Volition for the "predator in a cabrio" thing. Hilarious idea and so well realized. That and the time trial races were my favorites so far.

If you ever plan to do the car thefts, do them all as soon as you can, as there's an event that happens in the main story that will make some of them much harder and can't be reversed. You can't do them all before this point, as some don't get added to the list until later in the story, but you'll get some of the more annoying ones out of the way.

Also, if you don't enjoy driving the cars, maybe try using the other control method (controller if you're using keyboard & mouse, or vice versa). I found driving to be fun with both, but easier w/ a controller. If it's about speed, there's an upgrade that becomes available at level 26 that gives every vehicle you drive nitrous without having to take it to Rim Jobs.

Yeah, I love driving the motorcycles also.

So, Koch Media has purchased Volition and the Saints Row IP. I'm not sure how hopeful to be about that. Koch Media doesn't have the greatest track record. Some of their highlights are Catherine (co-produced with Atlus), Dead Island, and STALKER: Clear Sky. Anyone have an impression of them? Are they the sort to throw huge amounts of money at studios and then let them do their thing in a very hands-off kind of way? Someone please say that they are.
