ZERO DAY (formerly Survival and Apocalypse Catch-All)

I played Urban Dead pretty seriously YEARS ago (2006) . I had 3 characters who played in large groups (DEM & DvEM synchronizing efforts. I think I even paid

Totally forgot about that! I'll have to make an effort to check those accounts.

Yeah, I had good fun in Urban Dead. One day some guy killed me out of the blue, said I was a PKer. I spent the next few months stalking him, putting bounties on him, destroying his rep on the UD wikis. Even rolled up an alt to assist (you have to use different IPs, otherwise the game penalises you - I used a neighbour's wifi). I'm pretty sure he never knew who was ruining his game experience :).

Poor man, he made you into that monster, that PKer he feared you were. I sense a Twilight Zone episode!

May have to finally try Rebuild. I think I have the Chrome app/extension for it, but never really did anything with it. I assume the iPhone is a good format for the game.

Okay, that was great. I started with a city whose save file was corrupted at 37 survivors / 103 days. I restarted, and have just finished the last win condition. I've

reclaimed all blocks, discovered the cure for zombieism, and destroyed the evil zombie portal.

Could've used some more threat variety, but that's probably feature-creepy. I bet the true zombie apocalypse would get boring and repetitive, too.

You know, then one next week.

Don't Starve

Caught the very beginning of this while watching a stream on twitchTV (twitch.tv/lethalfrag), shut it off to reduce spoilage. I immediately saw the survival mechanics that sucked me into Minecraft and Wurm, and it became an instant purchase.

Still in Beta. Available on Chrome and Steam.

Then there is also this game called "Zafehouse". They are working on a second version of the game called Zafehouse : Diaries. The first one was actually pretty good. You bunker down in a town infested with zombies. Scavenge for food, supplies and survivors. Fight of the hordes until you are rescued. Pretty fun for a couple of hours.

I just tried Zafehouse and I'd heartily recommend it. It's pretty difficult to start with, but the challenge and learning how to play the game is part of the fun. There's a genuine tension in this game which I love about well-done survival games.

Thanks Hannibals and Ferocious for mentioning this game! Looks cool, must try.

Found a humourous take on Oregon Trail: http://www.hatsproductions.com/organ...

Organ Trail is a retro zombie survival game. Travel westward in a station wagon with 4 of your friends, scavenging for supplies and fending off the undead; Faithfully recreated it as if it were on the Apple 2. Packed full of zombie mechanics, themes and references; this is a must have for any zombie survival fans.

Ah yes, Urban Dead; I used to roll with the Upper Left Corner, which was dedicated to entertaining players with wacky antics.

Android users beware, the aiming and shooting mechanic is the worst I've experienced.

I have it on the iPad and I have more trouble with this game because I can't aim to save my digital life.

The best part of Organ Trail is you can select a member of your team and choose to shoot them, prompting the screen, "X person is not infected are you sure you want to shoot him/her?"

I've died in a few such sieges, but not The Great Siege.

I too was there for the first siege of Caiger Mall on the human side. It was definitely one of my highlights for the game. I ended up joining the zombies after that siege as part of their mall tour. Fun times!

I was digging through my archives and remembered Notrium, which is about you crash-landing your spaceship on a planet and trying to find a way to survive. There are a number of different endings, although one shortcoming of the game is that most of the endings emphasize combat over exploration.

Yup. I've played that game and it felt like aggressive action was how you solved problems.

Just found this: http://www.unlok.ca/wayward/

It's pretty awesome, it basically lost on a island survival style game. Real easy to learn and play and the crafting is very deep. Started with nothing wound up a with a forge, anvil, spears, some armor, etc. If anything it feels too easy but then again once I got settle I didn't go far from my base. Oh and fishing is basically infinite food. Really fun though, and free.

Yikes, that just ate a big chunk of my Sunday. Heaps of fun! Not too hard, but a bit of bad luck with the enemies can ruin you in a hurry. Thankfully all you skill gains and item discoveries stay unlocked when you die, you just lose your inventory and the world resets.

Anyone know anything about this one?

Radiated Wasteland

Wayward reminds me a lot of Don't Starve. But Wayward doesn't tell you the recipes up front so you may need a trip to the wiki in order to get anywhere. I couldn't figure out how to make a fire for instance.

Eh I only looked up the wiki when I couldn't figure out some of the advance stuff. Then again I just made sure to carry and make everything possible regardless if I needed it. Also leveling your skills unlocks new recipes and such. Overall compared to most games like these, the controls and how to figure out what to do is simple. The menu and crafting though get very unwieldy as time goes on though.

Fun but needs a bit more polish in some areas, and more stuff to actually do. Like some sort of objective.

Yeah, the recipes may not all be unlocked initially, but they unlock for you in such a way that I never felt the need to go to a wiki. Until I wanted to see how to make iron ingots. I won the game before I got a chance to make any though.

Follow-up game I used all my knowledge to make a beeline to iron and now I have an iron helm, shield, greaves, and battle axe.

Wait you can win? I played for a good while but after a bit it felt like I was grinding for resources so I stopped. Also the game needs something like a resources plot where you can dump stuff but still use them for crafting.

Yeah, the game doesn't exactly tell you, but you're on the island(s) to find treasures, then return home. Treasures include gold coins, gold chalices, gold swords. Some are dropped by monsters, others are found using maps (dropped by monsters). Once you get enough, the game will tell you and you can use a boat to sail home.

I'd just dump crafting items on the ground and pick them up as needed. Use chests to keep food fresh, or if you want to dump the contents into your inventory all at once. Cooked spiders never spoil!

Still playing Wayward when I'm bored.

Useful thread indeed but I wonder why DayZ isnt on the list. Now Im at it, State of Decay(open world zombie apocalypse survival) and WarZ(Basically DayZ but more accessible).
