DOTA 2 Catch-all

Does anyone have any spare invites, have couple of friends that want to try. I just cannot justify spending the $30 to send them one.

Is anyone still interested in the tutorial comp stomp today? Put up a lobby, message me if you want to join. We'll start @4pm EST if peeps are interested.

I have a bunch of extra Dota 2 invites on Steam, armedbushido, if you want them. Send me a Steam message. royce is the Steam name.

I was going to add you to my STEAM friends list if you do not mind? However, your list is full.

Lemme empty it out.

I would be interested in this, but not on Sunday afternoon during NFL Playoffs

Fair enough. We'll figure some non-sporty time for a game.

Not trying to be un, uh, thankful. Appreciate that you're making that offer to begin with. It's just bad timing I chose this past week to get into the game when the chosen day to play seems to be Sunday

Football will be done with in a few weeks. If nothing works out until after that, well that's life and I'll get in a game with you guys after

I've been putting quite a few hours into this game recently after Manach sent me an invite (Thanks Manach!). Only comp-stomps on easy mind you. I've been enjoying just trying out all the different characters and trying to play them all at least once so I can have an idea what they can do. Fun times.

What's a good hero for a complete noob? I've tried play a support type hero, the 2 headed dragon one Jankero or somethings. I keep getting owned by the easy bots, and he just feels to weak.

Jakiro is actually very strong, but he's not someone that grabs kills, he sets up his team.

Ranged - Drow Ranger, Viper
Melee - Skeleton King

These are the easiest and least dependent on abilities. They will help you learn basic mechanics like last hitting for gold, positioning, etc. Someone a page back had a good chart that outlined hero difficulties.

No worries ThinJ. Sunday was just the only day people had available a few weeks ago when we ran 5 v5 s. Left over.

Wizkid, Dany, hit me up and I'll run a Bot game with you guys, and explain some stuff. Jakiro is pretty powerful, actually. Just gotta check How you're playing/ building him.

What sort of character or Roll do you tend towards in Most team games?

Oh what the heck, I'll make a comparison TF2 style. Obviously not all heroes are that simple or in a singular role

Heavy: Axe, Skeleton King
Medic: Dazzle, Witch Doctor, Omni Knight
Sniper: Sniper.
Spy: Riki, Bounty Hunter
Engie: Venomancer, Shadow shaman
scout: Spirit breaker, Night Stalker
Soldier: Jakiro
Pyro: Sven. Lina.

I'm kinda wondering if me and cask should do commentary on GWJ Newb Comp Stomps.

If you need more bodies or help training newbs and I'm online, send me an invite. Heck, I'll probably learn something too.

Here is the hero difficulty chart that Harry mentioned in case you don't want to go find it: http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/User%3... (that any other helpful newbie links can be found half-way down on page 14 of this thread) My suggested starting heroes from when I was learning the game include: Lich, Venomancer, Viper, Lion, Skeleton King.

In terms of doing some of the education in the comp stomps, I think some 1-on-1 coaching can be the most effective way and we'll probably want to take advantage of a 3rd-party voice solution so that we don't have to be actively playing to observe and offer suggestions. On Sunday it was far easier for me to coach when I went and sat in fountain to even things out after a disconnect on the other team.

We should be able to use the GWJ vent server (http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/2...) or I think GeneralFarmer had a mumble server that he volunteered for dota purposes. Come to think of it, I may know of another mumble server we can use if we can't use the GWJ vent. I would recommend that folks download and install ventrilo and set up the GWJ server if they want to take advantage of coaching in the future.

Another option for people new to the game is to pass on a replay that you want feedback on. If it's a public match, you can just post the ID for it, but if it's a private match, you'll need to share the replay file so that we can download. I, and potentially others, can watch the replay and provide some timecoded feedback. In fact, if there is anyone else interested in providing match feedback, I'd love some feedback on my play in match 92249749.

I've been doing bot matches on medium and the only kind of difficult thing is bots actually seem pretty quick when it comes to ganking enemy heroes. If you over extend even a little bit and end up slightly out of position they tend to stun and kill you in about two seconds.

Medium bots were actually a lot harder to deal with than real people in the one normal game I played.

The bots do a good job at punishing aggression. Once you have played a few bot matches, you are in pretty good shape to try some pubs. There is a steady influx of new players, so you'll usually be matched with other beginners and most of them haven't practised at all.

That's what I hate most, going from full health, to stunned and killed within seconds.

Looks like I have 2 beta invites to send out. If anyone doesn't have one yet, please send me a PM. First 2 get it. (You can even be a coffee grinder!)

Same, just got an email about it, after only 550 games.

Got one more invite to give away

Still have 6 to give away.

I have a handful to give away as well. I received 6 but I may look to give some to some local friends.

Also in the 6 invite camp. I will accept Sherry's Berries.

General Farmer's Mumble Server:

What are the differences between Mumble and Ventrillo?

I have 12 invites to give away

Would that even work? Would the broadcasters be on a delay?

Atomicvideohead wrote:

They would be in the timeslip, the only way it would work is if someone screencasted, the built in game view wouldn't I believe.

Atomicvideohead wrote:

I believe that the broadcaster is getting things live, but stream viewers in dota.tv are getting things on a delay. I've seen coaches use this method in some vods.

Are you referring to coaching people in game, or coaching other people watching?
