Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

I'm happy that most of my personal purchases were just DLC rounding out gifts from others, 'cause I didn't want to spend much on myself. I'm also happy that I learned well from the summer sale, and was able to pace myself and spend less on more gifts.

It was fun as always, I look forward to seeing you all next time. Keep those wishlists updated!

EDIT: Oops, missed a couple.

Huge thanks to demonbox for giving me Clash of Heroes. I'm really digging it so far. It seems quite deep for a match three game.

Ah steam sales, how we wuv thee. I actually had a pretty low key sale and i think my wallet was happier for it.

Bought for me:
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion: $13.58
Deponia: $5.00
Chaos on Deponia: $10.00
Civ 5 Gods and Kings: $5.41

Gifts to Others:
Civilization 5: $7.50 (Groan)
Knights of the old Republic: $2.50 (OilyPenguin)
A10-C Warthog: $9.99 (Archangel)

Now to play some games!

I have it for the DS and it is a great game. You are correct, it is very deep, and each hero plays differently.

I took it pretty easy this sale. I didn't send as many gifts as I usually do, as money is tight at the moment. I think I enjoy the voyeuristic aspect of watching everyone go crazy as much as anything else during these things. My grand total:

Bought for myself:
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Stalker: Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat

Gifted to others:
Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Bad Rats: the Revenge
Divine Divinity
Beyond Divinity

Received:
Sleeping Dogs (thanks again, jonfentyler!)

Heartfelt thanks to polq and monkeyboy for DotA2 and Bad Rats respectively, even though I returned them. I'm making a conscious effort to not own things I have no intention of ever using.

The thought is greatly appreciated, though.

Did anybody want, but not get, a copy of Hotline Miami? If you fit this description, then friend me. It needs a good home.

Usual non-grinder rules apply :)

Many thanks sr_malo for Hotline Miami!

Well, I caught the Sleeping Dogs "sale" for $4.49.

Congrats, Sleeping Dogs, you're Steam game #500.

I caught it too, so no catching up to me - but definitely a GREAT way to get you to #500

I'm so chuffed for all those that grabbed Sleepy Dawgs that were on the fence, bargain!

And a final public thanks to Doc Awk for sending over Archon! I loved that game as a kid on my Apple IIe!

That game is so much fun. I've spent about 20 hours in it, still haven't even beat it, and only have 1 achievement unlocked, actually

But it's one of my favorites for sure.

Just want to say I love this community. Not only because of the gifting but the general atmosphere of friendliness. You guys are awesome. And thank you to everyone who gifted me games this season. I hope I can repay or pass on the love.

K, this is weird, when I search for Bad Rats, it shows up in the drop down results as $0.49, but when I go to the page to buy it, it's $4.99. WTF? :(

I can hook you up, if you want it

Thank you again to all who sent gifts my way, we'll have to do this again next year ;).

Why wait next year when there's the Steam Summer Sale?

About the quests in SotMC: When you accept a quest for your priceless mystical golden unicorn to go pull somebody's dirty old plow, it just wanders off for a while and then comes back to the same screen. Do I fully understand the quest system?

From what I gather, there's a cooldown period when your horse leaves on quests (and this is supported by the ticking clock and the countdown on the information board). The amount of time your horse is away increases as the horse's class increases (a class two horse is away longer than a class one horse). It's ridiculous, it's a silly mechanic, I hate it.

This was a great sale, folks. Hopefully next year (or in the summer sale if I'm lucky enough to get a job) I'll be financially able to do some real gifting instead of little $4 purchases and whatnot.

thanks again to all.

Oh my goodness!

So...I don't get a chance to be on steam much because I work long hours and my husband is currently obsessed with ME3, so I sorta let him run wild on the pc while I go pass out or shower or whatever. That being said, I don't know how to use steam very well, and I did not really grasp what wishlisting a game will do.

I got that game gifted to me many times. You guys. YOU GUYS :tear:

Thank you so much for Legend of Grimrock, everyone. I declined a few before I realized I have no idea what the appropriate protocol is. Rallick and MisplacedBravado: Should I regift them? I'm downloading one right now, but I'm not sure what I should do with the rest? I regifted one before realizing that may not be what the person wanted! I'm sorry about doing that without permission of the purchaser.

Again, thank you so much. You guys are amazing.

I think I'm mostly done for now, tomorrow I'll use some of my left over flying money to buy a $20 Steam card. Trying to decide is Anno 2070 is worth it. From the few videos I seen it really intrigued me, but I'd appreciate a little push from this great, wise, community.

thanks again to all.

In my experience, it's not so much the monetary value of the game as the thrill of that little green envelope and the whole "wow, for me?" feeling that does it.

I don't think there are any rules set in stone, but usually, you can either return the gift to the sender who will find another home to it, or simply pass it along to another deserving goodjer.
You're really in for a treat, Legend of Grimrock is an awesome game.

Gifted:
The Stronghold Collection
Ace of Spades
Botanicula
Mirror's Edge

Bought:
Skyrim+Dawnguard & Hearthfire
Stalker:Call of Prypiat

Received:
FTL
Civ V
HumbleBundle THQ
HumbleBundle 7

Biggest Regret:
Missing on Deus Ex HR at 5$ : (

It was nice to finally give something back and pay it forward as well, gotta love this place.

I didn't have time to say anything when it happened (had to run to work), but thanks to Crhis for the gift of Sleepy Dawgs. I had just bought it seconds earlier, and had to decline, but it was definitely appreciated nonetheless. I should have been off to work by the time the day's sale started!

A big "thanks" to m0nk3yboy for the "gift" of Bad Rats. It will sit in a place of distinction alongside Sparkle Ponies.

You know, I would have settled for one of the $5 Sleeping Dogs, but I never expected this.

Thanks, man!

Enjoy playing it, or enjoy passing it on! 'Tis the season.

Oh...man. Thanks for Legend of Grimrock. Hooks thoroughly in me. This community is the best!

Spoiler:

The skeletal sentinels scare the piss out of me. Something about the wonky controls and the speed at which they pursue and stab you. I've felt actual pangs of terror from it.

Final Tally:

Gifts recieved:
Indie Game: The Movie
Legend of Grimrock
Mark of the Ninja
Orcs Must Die 2
Thirty Flights of Loving

Bought for self:
You Need A Budget 4

Gifted to others:
Ace of Spades
Bards Tale
Flight Control HD x 2
Legend of Grimrock
Limbo
Lone Survivor
Magicka
RAGE
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II x 2

I've beaten Mark of the Ninja already. Holy hell that game is amazing. I'm cleaning up the seals and scrolls, then I'm going to start a New Game+ run.

Wow, a sim about living paycheck to paycheck? That's gotta be an even better everyday-life parody than The Sims!

(Googles title)

Well, fitting, then. It will probably tell you to spend less money on Steam gifts.

I thought that someone might have beaten me to it. Ah well, Just find another deserving home for it. I'm glad someone else hooked you up with the game. It sounds like you're enjoying it!
