Dark Souls Catch-All

First Bell rung. Helped another guy do it first to get the humanity and then ran through myself with a phantom + Solaire.

Gosh this game is still fun despite beating it 3 times already and having the platinum. The great feeling of coop taking down a boss is still fun every time.

Did they change the Gargoyle Tail Axe stats in the DLC? I don't remember being able to equip it immediately, but maybe it was just me, building for INT or already having the Drake Sword on my previous characters.

I've rung both bells and killed the

Sen's Fortress and I feel I only got through all the traps because I turned to a guide out of timing frustrations.

Started a Wanderer alt, might not progress very far with him. Not _that_ much different than my Warrior so might reroll again with either a pyro or a cleric.

Explored most of the lower burg and managed to not die to any of the ambushes there. Back to my original goal: I only get to fight two gargoyles at once? This game is a huge disappointment.

First bell rung. Time to go descend from firelink now?

I'm at about the same spot. I think you're actually supposed to head to the level below at Undead Burg. There is a door that requires a key to get down there which you have now.

Yeah the door by the dragon bridge where you met Solaire. You should have got a key for that.

Just wait until you get to the area that has something like seven

Yeah, that was the lower burg that I already explored before going after the first bell. There was a door that I wasn't brave enough to open while my flask was empty. I'll have to go back to check it out. Exploring the unfamiliar is exhilarating!

Got the black knight in Undead Burg after 2 tries without difficulty. Made it to the Capra Demon part and decided to call it a night after losing 4000 or so souls due to a couple mistakes. I didn't even go through the fog. Bleh. Anyways, the game continues to impress. I thought this screenshot turned out particularly well.

I don't want to annoy you guys buy posting too many screenshots.

Yeah, I've been taking screenshots too. It really does have a look to it.

I took a moment to enjoy the view after the bell rang

@TuffaloBuffalo, I appreciate them as links i you put a whole bunch up at once. It can tax my computer when I'm multi-tasking and there's like 5 hi-res pictures on the same post.

I finally cleared the Painted World comfortably, May have included gratuitous humanity farming from the white rats...

I then took out the NPC invader with ease on my own waiting for summon signs to show up. I then found 3 really incompetent phantoms. 1 Died because he didn't want to run by the phalanx group. I then had to clear them and return for another summon, as I had waited a few minutes and only got one summon sign. Returned and got two different 'helpers.' They both died fighting the mini-boss. Despite the mini-boss only getting one attack off! I had used one flask at this point. I came back and summoned the same two jabrones, didn't refill my flask as I wanted to just run straight to the mini-boss and not deal with the phalanx crew again. Took the mini-boss out from half-health in like 15 seconds, both phantoms managed to take damage from the mini-boss again. Healed them with my flask, down to 7. They indicated that they wanted to take the shortcut and one fell off the map. Great, down to one phantom. I'm annoyed so I just go drop down. My phantom turns around and aggros all of the undead as the tower knight charges me. The tower knight trucks into him and I have to clean up the whole mess. I heal up and try to return to the long way and find that the door is locked. I don't know how to open it, great. I decide to proceed to pricilla and try to take her on with 5 flasks. I had a hell of a time trying to hit her by following the footprints. Used all 5 flasks without any success and decided to quit out. I guess I'll be returning to the painted world again tomorrow and hoping for some phantoms that aren't accidental griefers.

I'm just sharing my screenshots with friends on Steam. Most of you should be able to see them. It is fun keeping a picture journal of sorts as I play, as I meet each new NPC and stuff.

But you got her tail and that weapon drop right?

Right?

Heh think that was one of the final things I got for platinum run. So hard to hit an invisible tail. And I didn't even think about it the first time I was there.

Wait, Solidarity, I need to check this. I know GWJ dynamically changes resolutions on images, but it's not great. I have always uploaded all my high res images to imgur then only posted the thumbnails which are 640x360. From there, I link them to the original images, which are huge. When you load the thread page, my images shouldn't be killing your computer.

I think that you are saying that it has happened before, and it's not me. At any rate, just let me know if I'm messing ya up. Drupal doesn't do a great job with images. It does okay, but I always make sure to make any posted image small if possible.

I'm running OSX 10.6.8 or something like that on a 5 year old macbook. Sometimes the images don't get downscaled and I have to scroll horizontally to see parts of an image. I haven't seen it yet on this thread but it does happen from time to time on the picture thread for me.

@Stele, I did not. I have no idea how much damage I actually did. With any luck, I'll get a helpful phantom tomorrow. I did manage to help someone chop her tail off as a phantom last night. I dealt the blow that lopped it off via my traditional sword -> butt strategy.

What level are you now, Solid?

Anyone have any tips on how to get in on other players' boss battles? I've been putting down my summoning sign near the boss door but no luck so far.

@Fedaykin98, I think I left off at 51.

@silentsod, you might be too high/low of a level to be summoned for that area.

Here's one guide for finding the appropriate level for an area for summoning.

I disagree with that chart - the high-side cutoffs are way too low.

silentsod, can you tell us what level you are, and what boss you're trying to be summoned on?

I could not get summoned for Gaping Dragon last night. That used to be a hotbed of activity back during the game's release. A huge payoff of souls for a mid-teens level.

After failing to get summoned for a while, I decided to try myself. Had a couple of failed summons, tried exiting and re-loading the game, and then saw no symbols at all. None at the bonfire, nor right above the boss fog.

So I noticed that Lautrec was there as an NPC summon. Is that new?

Anyway I tried summoning both him and Solaire, and of course since you can't heal NPC summons, they both died before I could de-tail the dragon. Ended up dying after that.

I really want to keep my successful Solaire summoning going, but he's very tough to keep alive on that fight.

Solaire seems determined to get himself killed in all fights. On NG+ I couldn't even keep him from getting killed against the Gargoyles.

I haven't been summoned in about a week. Despite the Steam sale I don't think too many people are playing online right now.

Same for me. I've given it 30 minutes or more and it eventually just disappears. I don't have to have a Gold subscription on my GFW account do I?

I both got summoned and summoned others for the Gargoyles and Capra last night. That's why I was really surprised about Gaping Dragon.

I have had several "summoning failed" problems, but I don't think it's substantially more than I had on PS3. Oddly enough, I've never failed to summon a Sunlight Covenant member, the two times I've seen an orange sign. Also not sure how they're in that covenant at such an early level.

EDIT: Oh I just looked and they lowered the Faith requirement from 50 to 25. Forgot about that. I guess that's why.

No definitely not gold for the PC version.

Boss door isn't always the best spot.

A lot of times people put down signs right by the bonfire that is nearest a boss.

Or in other areas, like the first bell, people put down signs on the lower floor of the building, near the altar. That way people coming up the elevator from firelink or from the bonfire by the blacksmith will see their symbols, and summon before heading upstairs towards the gargoyles.

For Gaping Dragon, a lot of people summon right by the bonfire if you have the shortcut open, to run downstairs for the boss.

For O&S, a lot of summons are done right as you get off the elevator and steps. Hopefully after you have the shortcut open.

For Sheath, I've always had summons at the bonfire, never down in the cave.

That's just a few off the top of my head.

So, other than NPCs, I have no idea how the summoning stuff works. Eventually, I would love to get one of you guys to help me with a boss or something and discuss stuff on vent during the excursion. Is it even possible to summon someone that's on your friend's list? If so, how do you go about doing that?

It's easier to force in Demon's Souls, as everyone is on the same server. Dark Souls you may never be connected to the same group and have a chance.

I think it randomly happened that first week that someone here (ahrezmendi maybe?) ended up summoning me. It was pretty cool when we saw each other's names!

Ideally you just need to be close to the same level as someone and be in the same area and throw down your summon sign a little bit out of the way. Like instead of at a bonfire, a couple rooms away, off to the side or something, so that others are less likely to summon you. But still there's a problem with whether the summon sign ever shows up or not.

I've had success the two times I've tried to co-op with Goodjers (Duffman and Solid), but it took a couple tries both times. On Xbox, btw.

I've had no problems doing whatever co-op I want lately on Xbox, either during evenings or on weekends. Drop my sign, read my iPad for a minute, get summoned.

Also seeing signs in Demon's Souls after all these years.

If I see you on I'll try to help you out.

Summoning friends is the same as everyone else. The best way to summon friends is to play over vent, or just use steam chat to tell the other player where the summon sign is.

I finally got summoned a couple of times to help with the Capra Demon. Got used to how the fight works and then took him down on my own. Then I cleared out a bunch of the Depths and stopped after kindling the campfire down there. Slow and steady.
