The Secret World

You can use whatever weapon you have skill and at least one ability in but can only have two active weapons at a time.

I use Blade/Assault Rifle and pretty much soloed to the end of the storyline.

Yeah, assault rifle seems to be the win-button for pve. Whenever I get stuck on something I just switch to either my ar/blood or ar/fist build and breeze through it.

Is there a "best" solo build? I am playing blades/claw and I think I'm doing good so far but miss ranged stuff. Or at a later level can I basically choose whatever weapons I want?

I was doing great with blades/elementalism but not sure if skills have changed.

Is communication better between faction cabals or are there any other better communication methods? I remember it was very tough to communicate if you weren't in the same cabal.

You can set up channels. There's a GWJ channel but I never see anyone in it. But yeah, cabal/group channels are the easiest.

There are many viable solo builds, to help give you some ideas to steal or manipulate check out the 'survival' builds here all of which are tailored towards soloing.

Ha! One AP (I finally got the terminology straight) from getting the final piece of the inner wheel. Finally went to Savage Coast. This game is awesome. What's the gwj chat channel command? And does anyone have a casual Templar cabal to recommend? I just want to run the occasional dungeon.

The GWJ channel command is '/join GWJ'

I got my first faction mission while I was completing quests in Kingsmouth Airport yesterday. What a cool surprise that was. I'll probably be onto the Savage Coast by the end of the day.

Gotcha.

My favourite bug so far? Unsubscribing to General chat makes it echo twice. Reenabling the General chat channel echoes it four times. I cried.

Lol, now I can't use space bar in the chat channel... So much for joining the gwj channel...

I'm a few quests into The Savage Coast now and so far every one has been a "kill N thingys" type quest, which is dramatically different from Kingsmouth. Someone please tell me this changes.

It does.

I've done a big chunk of Savage Coast now. Terrific.

Sweet. I guess I'll give it another chance.

On a related note, while I finished all the content I could find in Kingsmouth and entered The Savage Coast with QL3 gear, all the monsters are red to me. I can still kill them without a lot of trouble, but I feel like I was intended to be a bit higher level. Are you expected to run Polaris a few times before moving on? I can't imagine the designers would level content based on the expectation that the player should repeat quests.

I didn't do Polaris the first time until I had already hit Blue Mountain. I still haven't done any dungeons in Egypt or Transylvania and I've finished the storyline.

IIRC, there is a mission just as you enter the Savage Coast that is really tough when you first get there. Don't be afraid to look around for something else to do.

Did the main story mission send you there or did you just go over on your own? I'd suggest staying in Kingsmouth until the plot sends you to the SC. Even if your gear doesn't improve your abilities will.

Oh, a side note for newer players. Be careful advancing your skill levels beyond that of your gear. The game rates your opponents based on your skill level, not the level of your gear. So if you have a skill level of 9 but QL 3 gear it will tell you the monsters you are fighting are easy. They won't be.

Sigh. Probably because I gave you the wrong command...

It's '/chat join GWJ'

Yeah, the correct command will probably work better...

The story sent me to The Savage Coast. And I finished all the content in Kingsmouth, as far as I know. There were still a few red critters in the northern part of Kingsmouth--around the airport and the outpost at the bridge where the Polaris entrance is--but otherwise the rest of the zone was pretty easy when I moved on.

The quests I was talking about were for those hell portals near the entrance of the zone. All the critters are red, and the quests are just lame. After reading a review on some MMO website that complained about the same thing I started to worry that the whole zone was like that.

As for actual difficulty, I'm finding that with Blade/Assault Rifle I can fight maybe 4 red mobs at the same time and win. This happened to me a lot around the hell portals--I'd get adds from all over the place in the middle of a fight. The fights go a bit slowly compared to the 5 seconds it would take me to wipe out a mob of zombies in Kingsmouth, but I figure I'll skill up before long. I mostly wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. It seemed like a weird difficulty jump from Kingsmouth.

There's a small difficulty spike near the entrance to each zone, likely to act as a gear check more than anything else.

Haha, should have posted I figured it out eventually and was amazed at the solitude of the channel.

I ran Polaris and Hell Rising yesterday for the first time. A lot of people run the former lots and lots. Must be xp grinding or something. As for the conning reds, it's based on your weapon skill and talisman skills in some sort of ratio, as far as I know. You should be able to pick up some easy ql5 blues from the Mayan event in the auction house. Try that. Also, your sequins can get ql5 blue weapons at the end of the highway in Savage Coast. Shouldnt be a problem to make the hike.

It has some cool wep skins.

Speaking of which, the "Show Us Your Character" thread needs some love!
Especially for everyone who has just started playing and may be unaware of the other thread, take a screenshot and flaunt your stuff!

Just finished up the Innsmouth Academy quests. The writing and voice-acting are a hoot.

Those are probably my favorite quests thus far in the game. I loved the frighteners so it was a great flashback for me.

Ditto. Jeffrey Combs ftw.

Ha! I knew I recognized that voice, but couldn't quite place it.

Good grief but the marketing speak is thick in that second article: "...through providing more organizational focus and strengthening the competence of a joint central team that will continue to operate and enhance these games."

I think I felt my brain rebelling as it read that.

While crossing through Agartha tonight I saw a "multi-faction cabal" advertising on general chat. Did the restrictions on cabals get lifted when I wasn't looking, or is there some multi-cabal chicanery going on here?

I think multi-faction just means they have a website.

I think a lot of this was just that I hadn't put much thought into my passives. It isn't really necessary in Kingsmouth, but seems a lot more important in TSC. I'm probably halfway done with the zone now and things are moving along smoothly after some tweaks.
