DOTA 2 Catch-all

My win rate fell back to 51% after the break. I was up near 53% (20 over .500) but like you said, the pendulum came back and hit me in the balls. I looked through a lot of the games and I am highest GPM, XPM, K/D but I had horrendous teammates.

I'm curious where your at record wise right now Cask, after last nights games.

I'm feeling like the pendulum is gotta swing the other way tonight, and we'll all get destroyed.

(I also think its interesting that you're below .500, but above it with the people you play with most. Do you pub a lot Cask?)

After last night I'm 155-158, according to dotabuff. I think my in-game record is 1 fewer win and 1 fewer loss.

I rarely pub at all anymore, but the bigger reason why my record with friends is much higher than my overall winning percentage is because dotabuff reflects the last 2 months of games with friends. In all my games after the first 100, my record is 115-98, or 53.99%. And I played my 100th match of Oct 14, so half of October is still not reflected in the friends win rates.

Bah...double post...first time I've done that here.

Updating the Cheat sheet a bit. Figured I'll update it ever 2 months or so.

Don't stress about CM Cask --Cheat!

Oh, do any of the newer guys want to group up for a comp stomp sometime this sunday? I'm willing to be a brain to be picked with a team of 4 + me.

I'm always up for opportunities to learn how much I suck as Dota. I'll be around Sunday, but I may disappear for part of the afternoon to root for my Redskins to destroy the Seahawks. Also, Videohead, if you're cool with being a Dota Professor, I know of some folks on another board that want to learn Dota. I've tried to teach them, but you know how noobish I am.

Also, I've been playing CM (a lot), Lina and some Veno. Looking to change things up and learn how to be a carry. I played a Luna and had the most epic game against Level 1 noobs, where I really felt that I had the capability to singlehandedly carry the team to victory. The game reached this magic point where it was like a switch was flipped and I was able to impose my will onto the other team and win the game with a vet support character assisting and protecting the base. Fantastic experience. Then I played again and quickly learned how much I suck.

Anyway, playing as a carry really helped me see how some of the pieces fit together, seeing how much a support is needed to protect you, warding to give vision, LH because you're so item dependent unlike the support characters. I'm wonder what is the best (easiest) carry to learn? I prefer range attack heroes. I've been using Luna, but wonder if there was a better character to use. I have a tendency to die a lot with her because I'm insanely overly aggressive which is more forgiving with support, but suicide with Luna.

If you see me on as well, I am an old vet, I warn you I may not be as patient but I will do my best.

Now I need to take a picture of me being Dr. Professor Dota.

Learning Carrys =

I'd say Doom -- because he aways gets fed, no matter what. He'll also be the quickest way to learn all the items. Or most of them.

Skeleton King= is just damn hard to kill. Only one active skill (but buy a soul ring, before 6!)

I'd also say you should consider Silencer, since he's a semi- carry that transitions from Support to Carry by the end of the game. You just need to survive, and stay near fights. He's strong against heroes that use combo skills (tiny, Earthshaker, etc) or have low Int or are super dependent on their int for some reason. Works well with OD.

We can talk this over Sunday.

I remember that magic moment.

Viper, Sniper and Drow are all relatively straightforward ranged carries. I find Doom can be a little confusing for a newer player, but Skeleton King and Sven are easy melee heroes. Juggernaut would probably be a decent early pick as well.

I'd also suggest this list: http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/User%3... which you can sort by hero difficulty. I found it very handy in providing direction in picking more straightforward heroes. Looking back now, I find some of their ratings to be a bit questionable, but it's a decent place to start.

I only mentioned Doom, because he's basically an accelerated course in items. And the easy farm. But I catch your drift.

And totally agree on Drow. Practically an easy button. Just remember -- you only need two levels of cold arrow! The rest is just...ice-ing.

Ya doom is weird, i get why you pick him for the farm but i don't consider him a "carry" his stat growth just isnt there.

ranged - drow easiest, viper is probably second
melee - skeleton king is really good way to learn melee positioning and relatively safe, phantom assassin is a high risk/reward type carry.

Well, yeah, clearly his stat growth comes from his items --which he should get before everyone else, if he's played correctly. So he's a soft carry, or an early carry that can be surpassed by other characters. But a doom, is a a super flexible guy, considering his farm and changeable auras.

Just because he isn't the hardest carry doesn't me he isn't one.

1 armor! (2 armor in the patch, OP)

I have SIX copies of DOTA2 to give away. If you are interested, pm me. Going to non-Coffee-Grinders.

I have six copies as well. PM me if you need one.

I have 4 copies to give away. Same rules as Toddland and Crockpot, PM me and no Coffee Grinders.

I too have six copies to give out.... I'll send this out to my other friends as well since it looks like there's plenty of copies here

Krev just gifted me a copy so I'm tagging into the thread. If there are a ton of these floating around now I wouldn't mind a couple of copies to hand out to my kids so we can give it a run too.

How is this game making money? I got a free copy for being in beta which I think nearly everyone was, and now everyone is getting a bunch of free copies to give to friends. Is there RMT or some such?

I can't send copies through Steam List because you own a copy;

----EDIT-----

Today's lesson;
no good deed goes unpunished.

¡Muchas gracias, amigo!

I've got 6 gift copies to give away and it appears all of my Steam friends who want it already have it. First 6 non-grinders to PM me and friend me on Steam can have them.

I'm sure it's just because I'm a noob but I really like Skeleton King.

First time playing him, went 4/2/8 in a game where we lost one guy in the first two minutes and he didn't come back. The ability where he just pops back up on the field with full health/mana when instead he should be dead feels like cheating.

I ended up playing him more like a support though, because people kept stealing last hits, and every time I tried to go off by myself and farm creeps someone would follow and keep right on doing it

Spent most of the game just using his stun from the outer edges of fights because I could never afford the items I needed.

Hello all!

Toddland has been super fantastic and provided me 3 keys for DOTA 2. I am still in need of one more for my best friend. The only caveat is that he is not a GWJ member. If you are still willing to donate a key to my friend, I would greatly appreciate it. Please PM me.

Thanks,

Asterith

I still have 4 to give away. Just send me a friend request on steam, and I'll send it your way, or your buddy's. Profile link in my sig.

Thanks for the beta invite, Toddland!

Sounds good. I sent you a friend invite just to cover the bases. I will have my friend also send you an invite. His username is raisinbran.

Thanks!

Thanks Dyni! I got it and passed it on to my friend.

Also thanks to Toddland for the other beta invites!

Ok, I probably shouldn't have found this as amusing as I did, but what are you going to do?
