Persona 4 Golden Catch-All

Does he say "bearsona" during battle? Am I just hearing things?

Yes! Yes. He is just on the edge of insufferable for me, which I think is where he is for the other characters too. I like to keep him cooped up in his

Spoiler:

bear suit

because his

Spoiler:

sparkly romance-manga look

is just a little too much for me.

Yeah. Too much for me as well. The further I get in the game the more I want to watch the Giant Bomb endurance run to see what they have to say about it.

Their response to Ted's adventure is funny enough to warrant a spot in the Best of P4 Endurance Run videos some guy made. Link to that particular clip. Spoilers if you're not to the part mentioned above, obviously.

I have a Vita now and this is the hot sh*t for it, but I can't get convince myself to buy the game. I didn't like the gameplay enough on PS2 to play it and I already know how most of the narrative works because I have watched the entire Endurance Run.

Watching the endurance run was the first time I'd heard the original Teddie and Chie voices, and I prefer the new ones. Chie's new voice fits her personality better than the old one, and Teddie sounds nearly identical.

I finally started Death and Lovers. I really ought to finish Magician, it's been at rank 9 and ready for 10 for nearly a month now.

What month are you in? I've only got 14 S. Links and I'm at the end of July.

I'm on 7/24 and I have 20 links. The ones that have required the most digging to find have been:

Death -

Spoiler:

This required getting rank 3 of Devil.

Devil -

Spoiler:

This requires getting enough Courage to take the Hospital Janitor job.

Hanged Man -

Spoiler:

This required finding and talking to Saki's brother 3 times to get him to open up.

Man that

Spoiler:

Rise/Teddy double boss battle

Kicked my ass lik six or seven times before I finally nailed it. I haven't touched another Vita game since this came out by the way.

So I just

Spoiler:

saved Kanji and got a scooter, and took out Contrarian King like a badass.

I have a good groove going on, though I'm overwhelmed by the number of things you're able to do each day. Currently at level 25, I think.

However, I'm increasingly aggravated by

Spoiler:

Yosuke's attitude toward Kanji. It seems pretty obvious that what he's doing is exactly what was tormenting Kanji in the first place. Is that addressed? I went from liking Yosuke to finding him somewhat loathsome.

I kind of cheesed that battle.

Spoiler:

I had a persona "Titinia" who had a null ice stat with Chie. It was hit, hit and heal against Shadow Teddie.

I refuse to do homework over the summer! These are my most precious days!

EDIT:

Spoiler:

RATS! I wasn't able to completely neglect my homework! The game forced me to do it "urgently" at the last minute on 8/29. My knowledge stat is really high, I don't need any of this education! I want my character to cut class and skip his assignments so he has more time for socializing!

I started the next zone last night, and decided to bring Chie along to level her up a bit. I'm beginning to think that was a mistake, she's so low that she gets one-shot by just about anything. A trip to do the optional bosses is definitely in order after I finish this zone.

I've forgotten how to unlock the "void" quest door. I feel so dumb.

*sigh* I broke down and picked this up. Now I know what I'll be doing on my long commutes.

50 hours in. The longest I've played a SP game is 130 hours (Fallout: New Vegas), 80 hours (Pokemon Leaf Green) and 75 hours (FFT:A). So the time is flying buy and I'm really enjoying this game. My epiphany of today is that this might cause me to pick up Devil Survivor for the DS now that I'm starting to get a handle on their magic names and demon names.

You'll love it, this is the perfect commute game.

My understanding is that the different SMT games are very distinct, so just because you like Persona doesn't mean you'll like Devil Survivor. I haven't played the others though, so grain of salt and all that.

Oh yeah, this morning I got another Skill Up card during a Shuffle Time, and my Incubus got his Agilao upgraded to Maragion. Now I can replace his Maragi with something else to make him a bit more generally useful.

Well, here's my perspective. I played Devil Survivor once. Aside from the game being too "talky" for my tastes at the time the main barrier to entry was that I had no clue what to make of the demons and the various powers they had. Now that I have a better grasp on that I think I might understand the game better. I liked the style and overall mechanics. And the more I play of Persona 4 the more I recall the ways in which Devil Survivor *is* like it, but that I didn't get at the time.

Devil Survivor is definitely awesome, but a very distinctly different game than Persona. If you really love P4 Golden, you might be interested in giving P3P (the psp Persona 3 port) a shot, though the interface and such are different enough from P4 that it may not hook you as much.

I made a Youtube playlist with some of my favorite P4 tunes. My very favorite might actually be the peppy shop music, which is called "How Much?"

Welcome home, big bro!

Yeah, I think you're processing that correctly. Once you learn your way through all the -dynes and -kundas and tentarafoos, pretty much every Atlus game is open to you from an understanding perspective. Once more, since Devil Survivor 1/2 are more Japanese SRPGs than anything else, they should be right up your alley. Aren't you the one that's put in like a billion hours on the various Disgaea games?

Tangental to the discussion of this game but fitting in the current conversation, I polished off Story Mode of Persona 4: Arena yesterday. Very interesting, that game.

Thanks for the info, Minarchist. I didn't put a billion hours into Disgaea. However, I put 70 - 80 hours into FFTA twice! I beat both GBA Fire Emblem games a couple of times, I played Tactics Ogre on the GBA twice and I beat Tactics Ogre for the PSP. So, yeah, my interest is in continuing to become knowledgable with SMT's terms and also play an SRPG in the meantime.

I'm also interested in Persona 4 Arena, but I'm saving that for when I'm done with Persona 4 Golden.

I received an import of the Persona 4 Golden soundtrack for Christmas. Some of it was so my kids can hear "Shadow World" whenever they want. They're in love with that song.

Even my wife remarked that the music you hear outside of the dungeons is excellent.

Right now I just finished a second pass through the third dungeon, and I'm sick of having no money. I haven't been able to buy from the last two infomercials, let alone new weapons. So, I'm grinding. A lot. My experience levels are actually looking kind of ridiculous like they did in Persona 3 Portable, but I just want the money.

You should try all of the part time jobs. There's more to them than just the money, but it'll also solve that problem.

Yeah, I only recently tried the others besides daycare. I didn't know you could do more than one, and I wish I was multitasking from the start. Need that money!

I cannot believe it took me this long to try talking to my party members in the TV gathering room. It was a real facepalm moment when I did that this morning and discovered I was always able to return to the old zones, no need to make a special trip or anything. Now I'm going back through them to finish all the old quests I have, and catch a few characters up in levels (and hopefully net a few Emperor and Magician cards).

Well, I ignored your advice and had fun grinding mindlessly. Also, mindless tasks were perfect for time on my exercise bike.

With only the first three dungeons unlocked:

Spoiler:

I'm at least level 48. Rise just reached level 46. I'm rocking a level 43 Sati who gained so many "Skill Lvl Up" cards that the game says I can't use them any more. The current set includes Regenerate 3 and Invigorate 3. Also, Mazio, Magaru, Maragi, Maragion. I'm thinking of replacing Maragi with Spirit Drain or Mabufu just to be a bigger jerk.

This is actually fun for me.

You should still try all the part time jobs. Like I said, there's more to them than just the money.

I will do that too. My expression and understanding could use a boost. But as long as I was already there and physically just passing time on my exercise bike, that was a fun way to play.

I wanted to grind up to 200,000 yen . After selling materials I'm at 304,000 and change. Now it's back to social links and jobs.

I got up to the "Love & Peace" boss. He is really tough. My main character is PL 56, and the other party members are lower. The boss seems to have a non-elemental attack that kills all my dudes from full health. Kind of regretting being on Very Hard at the moment. Probably have to farm for XP, would rather not.

Did you try Magic and Physical Mirrors (or Makaracorn/Tetracorn) to withstand it?

Oh #&$% son, I just learned something that I really wish I'd known sooner:

Spoiler:

Cafe Chagal, in Okina City, allows you to extract abilities from any Persona into a skill card. Gdon with Rampage, here I come!
