Firearm Hobbyist Catch-All

IDPA is fun dude. It's a little nerve racking the first time you go out, but after you kind of get accustomed to the rules and really focusing on doing what a stage requires it's a good time.

I'm actually kind of afraid of getting it considering what is going on but I've been wanting another gun ever since I sold my .22's ~4 years ago. My plan has been to practice and join the Tuesday Night Pistol League (IDPA) or the local USPSA.

If I do get it, I need to find a holster, mag holders, belt, better safe (mine is cheap), spare parts and a space to clean and maintain it.

You should buy it. I have the same pistol and love it. The only thing I don't like about the ad you posted is the price. A new one ( well a back ordered one ) is only $580.

Sadly that's about the price you will find any period around here new or used. They aren't very common around here.

I got it and it's pretty nice. The only things I need to change is the recoil spring which combined with the {ableist slur} midget slide, makes it really hard and painful to rack the slide. I already ordered a 10 and 14lb recoil spring from cz custom. I just need to figure out how to debur the slide somehow.

The slide needs deburring? Are you sure it's not just the heavy ass spring and crappy poly guide rod? If you are ordering from CZ you may as well order the aluminum guide rod too and ditch the poly one. It's only $18, I replaced mine with stainless for $25. I can hunt down the link if you are interested.

The part you grip the slide is really sharp. That's what I meant when I say deburr, so it doesn't rip the skin off my fingers.

I ordered the IDPA Pro Pak from Blade-Tech this morning to get ready for IDPA. Kind of excited and terrified at the same time.

It has taken forever for me to get get down to my gunsmith, but it looks like I will finally be able to pick up my AR15. Additionally, my buddy says he will have a shooting day at the farm in February. Good thing too. I have about 2000 rounds burning a hole in the floor of my safe.

Those of you with CZ's, how long do the magazines last? I'm looking at buying some but I am wondering how many and of which kind to buy. Could you share your experience with them?

Most people that have trouble with mags do waaaaaaaaay more shooting than I do. I have three of the 19 rounders for my SP01, and one unfortunately hasn't locked into the magwell quite correctly since the day I got it.

If I order more any time soon (assuming they're ever available) I'd likely just order the 16 rounders for the regular CZ75, as they work fine in the SP01.

The only ones I can find that are available for a decent price (<$40) is the 15 round ProMag and the 20 round ProMag. Everywhere else they want $40 or more for the 14 round one for my P-01. And with the introduction of the magazine limitation bill into Congress, the hopes of me finding the standard 14 round ones are slim to none. The 10 round ones from CZ are about $50, which is insane.

I really hate the idea of magazine hoarding, but there isn't much of anything available.

All the CZ branded mags are made by Mec-Gar and are indeed costly.

I was warned away from ProMag stuff by a large number of people back when I was looking, but then of course one of the three MecGar official branded ones I bought had issues

Nevermind, Top Gun just sent me an alert email saying they got the Mec Gar 14 round magazines in just now and ordered a bunch.

I went to visit my local gun store today because I wanted to take a look at an M1A. Silly me. The place was completely picked over. The only guns they had left were cowboy action firearms.

Good info. Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a safe?

Our budget is around $700 and the safe doesn't need to be huge. As of now it'll only hold a .22 rifle but we'll probably pick up a couple more long guns in the next few years and maybe a pistol or two.

Can the doors be switched out so that they open from the righthand side or do they all open from the left? The area where we agreed to put it would have a wall to the right if you're looking at the wall where the back of the safe would sit.

Of least importance, my wife would like it not to look as if came out of an old west general store.

I'd go with one of the smaller models from Ft Knox. They know what they're doing. Buy the highest end model you can afford in the size you need, would be my recommendation.

Speaking of safes; does anyone make a horizontal chest style? I need to get one and think it would be best to mount it under the stairs in my basement (rental).

Not that I know of. The doors tend to be really heavy.

Hmmm. Looks like the Maverick 8 gun will run about $1400 before shipping.

Hrm. Those were $800 back when I was looking. Yikes.

Picked up a Kahr CM9 today, def not a range gun, but super slim and already loving the trigger.

Interesting - looks very similar to my Glock 23 and the baby Glocks. Did you shoot with the six round or seven round magazine? I've always had issues with the little ones and feeling like I'm not holding onto the weapon very well because of the short grip.

I went to the range yesterday for other reasons but I finally got the chance to shoot my new P-01. What a great pistol. I think I'm going to have a great time with using at IDPA once my holster from Blade-Tech comes in.

With more practice I think I'll be doing much better. By the end of our time at the range, I figured out my flinching and that I was limp wristing it, which caused the slide to fail locking back on last round everytime. After figuring that out, my accuracy improved greatly in managing the recoil. I was able to put 13/14 rounds within the -0 circle of an IDPA target.

I was also given a Marlin Model 60 as a gift and boy, what a fun little .22lr. This thing was brand new, still sealed in the box even though the owner bought it back in 1993. It even came with a scope, but I'm saving that for next time. A total blast.

Lastly, I got the chance to shoot a Hi-Point C9. Holy sh*t what a solid turd. We only shot two magazines of ammo through it and I had on my magazine alone 5 different double feeds, failures to eject failure to cycle, etc. This thing really does need higher pressure ammo. I'm glad we're going to surrender this to the Seattle PD to get it melted into rebar. We also had a break top .22lr revolver that didn't work and two, two-shot derringers (.38spl and .22 Magnum). The fireball out of the .38spl was scary as hell. The .22mgn was hard to eject the spent casings and whatnot. Either way, these are pieces no one is going to miss.

That is my .22; I grew up with the Glenfield version my dad had and, like it better than the Ruger 10/22.
