Pho as in foe

I'll also add to the pile and suggest either lean beef or fatty beef. I'm not courageous enough to dive into tripe or tendon just yet.

Check out the menu, and see if they have bun (as in bon). It's basically pho without the soup - grilled meats and raw veggies over vermicelli noodles with a side of nuoc cham.

And then there's also bahn mi, which is basically pho minus the soup on crusty French bread. Sooooooo gooooooood

Every time I go in for Pho, I say that I am going to try the sandwiches...and then I order the noodle Pho and waddle out of the door with beef broth all on my pants, and a big smile on my face.

Is there a method by which one can estimate the cost of a tattoo or does it vary from shop to shop?

Haven't gotten many, but I can tell you that each shop will differ based on overall surface area of the tattoo.

The shops I've looked at have an hourly rate that differs from artist to artist; beyond that, the length of time it takes depends on the size and complexity of the tattoo, I'd assume

Yes, this. Hourly rate that varies for each artist and might even vary depending on the style of the tattoo. You'll need to work directly with an artist to get a reasonable estimate.

Keep in mind, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Tattoos are permanent, making your decision based on a cheaper price will invariably result in lower quality work.

I also strongly recommend trying their coffee. Good Vietnamese made coffee is an amazing treat.

I once started a parody about pho to the tune of Busta Rhymes' "Gimme Some Mo'", until I found out how it's actually pronounced. Since I'll never finish it now, I'll post the attempt here for your amusement:

Yeah gweilo, what, try a surprise
Feed you something new, gwei, no more burgers and fries
All my chingyo be gettin' Indonesian and Thai
Try it, little shiro, who knows what you'll like
Maybe sushi, ebi, or some hotategai
You can roll your own maki, we got all the supplies
Sushi meshi, some mikasu, and a couple of knives
But we've just the one shamoji so you'll share with the guys
All my chingyo be eatin' in and takin' it out
Entrees and appies from Korea and Laos
See you at the pub, now we takin' you out
For some kimchi, kal bi, or pad kapao
Maybe some tandoori, curry, or vindaloo and
You pilin' on the kasundi, hope you what you're doin'
Now save room, you don't wanna fill up on these
There's still the Burmese, Chinese, and Vietnamese

You gweilo had enough? (Gimme some pho)
Kimpatsu want the steamed rice? (Gimme some pho)
Juramasak, where the mee at? (Gimme some pho)
I know you orang need that (Gimme some pho)
Even though we're eatin' later you can (Gimme some pho)
With cilantro and the brisket (Gimme some pho)
Everybody sit down (Gimme some pho)
If you want a second helping say (Gimme some pho)

No no...THERE! ;)

Car key gnomes. I believe the caption is cut off. There's some weird copyright stuff with The Far Side. I wish they would just put that stuff up online with a link to buy the collector's edition (everyone should own this by the way). Anyways, this one was floating around when it probably shouldn't be.

Must be gnomes, that's the only explanation! I have a little dish near the garage entrance that I always, ALWAYS toss the keys into when I get home, except they weren't there this morning. My wife lost the other key a couple years ago, so I'm kinda boned if I can't find it. Dealership says I'd have to have the car towed in and I'd be looking at around $300 for the tow and new key. That's just ridiculous!

Does anyone have the Skyrim guide, and would you recommend it at $13.50?

DO you mean the one you can buy on Steam and such? Or like a Prima at Gamestop?

Is there a particular thing you need help with? I am finding the Skyrim Wiki is a big help for a lot of things, like getting to the Daedric quests.

Nah. I recommend UESP. That said, I did pay $40 for the collector's edition of the Prima Game Guide, but that's mostly because it looks nice and I was twitterpated. It's fun to flip through the hardcover and look at the maps, but if I need to quickly look something up in the middle of playing, I just go to UESP on my iPhone or iPad.

The Prima one. It is on sale for 50% off at Gamestop for the guide that is updated with the DLCs.

The Skyrim wiki and TA guides are good enough for the likes of you!

QFT!

And, check out their portfolio of work, too. See what sort of things they've inked other people with and find out which artist did which work. You don't want the apprentice guy inking a more experienced tattooist's art on you - esp. if the art is complex (unless you like misshapen stuff you'll want lasered out later).

I've got a couple of tattoos and I've got friends who have dozens of them, so if you have any questions about getting work done, feel free to PM me. I got a ton of good advice from those friends when I got my two done.

Yeah you should be making the decision based on the artist's style and quality of work more than anything else.

If a tattoo artist had drawn the $100 or $10 dollar picture on me and asked for my OK to ink it, I would have jumped out of that chair so damn fast. Who OKs work like that? "Yeah, man - that is FIERCE! Do it!"

Work like that makes me sad.

Mimble wrote:

An old highschool classmate of mine got a freehand tattoo in a guy's kitchen of a rebel flag that turned into an eagle head. And yes, it LOOKED like the $10 tattoo in that picture. He thought it was absolutely awesome while everyone else just laughed when they saw it. He's the kind of guy that would get a tattoo like that.

You can't see shading/color before they do it. You can really only approve the outline.

Stroke Lion would definitely show on the transfer though

Exactly. You don't need to see shading and colour with outlines that would be as crappy as those ones. Based on the outline alone, I'd be out the door. $100 Stroke Lion's (awesome name for it, Clover) eyes are obv. misshapen and that would be in the outline, and the $10 one....blech.

Maybe he asked for a lion who had a stroke.

True, I was just saying that as a fair warning. This is why thorough trust in the artist's ability is important.

Yep! And a really good close look at their portfolio, too. And maybe a spelling test - I still remember that whole "Fighing Irish" tattoo that ended up in the courts.

Odd thing is, if the tatoo artist had spelled it right, the guy might likely have gotten sued by Notre Dame over their trademark of Fightin' Irish. They defend that logo as viciously as Disney defends the Mouse.

Radical Ans wrote:

As others have said, it varies from artist to artist and shop to shop. It's a huge decision, and again, you get what you pay for, so do a ton of research before you pick a parlor or artist. I did a ton of research myself when I was getting my first tat, found a wonderful place that charges $200 an hour for many of the artists (though some are more) and I've gotten two there since, with more planned. Good luck, and enjoy!

I would not use Yelp for something as subjective as art. Look up local shops, walk in, meet the staff, and browse their portfolios.

The cost of the tattoo will vary based on the number if colors, the intricacy of the design, and the size. It is no different than repairing your car, the costs are on materials and time spent.

At the end of this year, I am celebrating with 2 tattoos on either bicep or fore arm, simple text in Poor Richard block text, not terribly expensive.

If you want the Mona Lisa on your back, we are talking big bucks.

As for finding an artist I suggest YELP or Citysearch for a place with a lot of good reviews. If you have a friend or family member with a really good tattoo, ask where they got it done. Anyone who wants your business will talk with you, get you a decent ball park.

I used yelp in combination with actually going to the shops and meeting the folks. Turned out quite well.

I want a good ypbpr convert/upscaler? I want to go back and finish some old games.

I understand the sentiment, but I feel like I should at least try to talk you out of the 313 tattoo.
