Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Attention Cragmyre: I hereby devote my first 10 McPixelated deaths to you. Thank you so very much for giving me the opportunity to be digitally kicked in the junk.

Edit: Wow... 10 deaths is WAYYYYY insufficient. I'm not sure quite what it is that I just played, but I think I love it.

If I'm not too late, Tropico 4 is great! They basically fixed everything wrong with Tropico 3, and added a few little things. Best version of any of them.

So, you're telling me the four previous Tropicos I have are worse, that I should just get 4? Argh!

I just saw that a Tropico 4 demo is available on Steam. I know nothing about the series but will download the demo, just in case it's good.

That was basically my reaction when I played it earlier this year on my tablet.

Thanks MrDeVil_909 for Awesomenauts!

Thanks everyone who has been gifting me games, it's very much appreciated, but I think I'm getting a large amount of gifts because I have a large wishlist. I use it for tracking prices for sales so while I AM interested in every game on my wishlist, I think I've accidentally increased my odds of being gifted by GWJers. So, unless you're gifting me something you specifically wanted me to have, it may be better to avoid me and spread the love elsewhere! I'd love to just match all the gifts I've received by sending even more gifts out, but my hours were cut recently and my gifting abilities are limited.

Thanks all for putting the cherry on my 2012. 2013 is going to be the year that I smash that pile to pieces!

If anyone's interested in the new Painkiller HD remake (which is apparently pretty decent) for less than $5, Totalbiscuit posted this today. You just sign up for a free account and if you do it before the 18th, you get a 50% off code for Painkiller HD that you can use on Steam anytime. If you use it today, the deal stacks on top of the already discounted sale price and you can get Painkiller HD for $4.99. I just did it, it totally works.

It's 50% off at the game site itself. That gets you both a DRM-Free copy, and a Steam key. Win-win.

Does buying on gog give a Steam key? I just got my nephew onto Steam. I don't know if he's ready for gog yet, too.

I've posted this before, but the devs are selling FTL directly through the Humble site at the same 50% off. More money to devs, plus you get both a Steam key and a non-DRM copy.

Thanks guys. I just bought another FTL for him that way.

What GWJ customs govern gifting? I've got a bunch of GWJ friends but have neither received nor sent a gift. Should I just browse friends' wishlists and spurge without provocation, or try to follow the discussion in here?

Have no clue on the first one, sorry.

For the second, well, I basically see if there is a game on sale that someone has on my friend's wishlist, so, at least for me, keeping your wishlist up to date is key Though there are times I will give something not on a wishlist, I prefer knowing the other person wanted it :D

I use Is There Any Deal for tracking this kind of thing.

Thanks for the head's up but are the games really that bad? Overall (outside of Black Edition) they scored really low. I like FPS games but kinda question these based on the reviews.

I read the description and watched the trailer.

What.
The.
Hell.

Oh, also, thanks Cragmyre for The Longest Journey!

I broke my one gift a day rule because I was afraid too many others would give it to you first

Quick, between Portal 2, Payday the Heist and Deus EX HR providing they are at the same price (lets say 5$) which one would you pick? Payday seems fun to play coop ala L4D2, Portal 2 is a must play and DXHR tickles my cyberpunk senses in a sexy way, so I'm really torn between these 3 options. This will be my last dip this sale so i've been saving it for the last days, but I'm worried payday won't be around with this discount at the end. Feel free to PM if you don't want to derail the thread. Thanks in advance!

I voted for Sleeping Dogs because someone described it as Shenmue 3.

I slept on the sale though.

Doh!

I haven't heard of this game before, so is this Hit Man featuring a 1st grade antichrist?

No comment on the Heist, don't own, don't want.

Portal 2 is great. All quality, fun puzzles, and awesome characters. You won't regret spending some time with that.

That being said, Deus Ex is also a strong contender. Still polished, though not as much as Portal 2. There's a lot more game to play though, and it does have that dark cyberpunk theme that is fun to get involved with.

Guess it depends what you're feeling more, but both are must haves IMO

I don't know that any real customs have arisen out of the Winter Steam Sale Giftstravaganza. The whole thing rose organically out of the altruism of this community. Part of what makes GWJ so awesome.

What I do is look in my friends wishlists, look at my wish list, look at my bank account, then try to keep myself out of trouble with my CFO. It's a delicate balance, and most years, I end up wishing I could do more.

I have DXHR, and Portal 2. Portal 2 is a must play. DXHR isn't. Haven't played Payday, so can't opine. Did I mention Portal 2 was a must play?

Really? My interest just rose exponentially. I loved the Shenmue games. Yes, even driving a forklift around.

Of the three I have only played Portal 2 (I did install DXHR this morning though!), but I second what mateo said, Portal 2 is a must play.

Thank you MrDevil909 for Awesomenauts :) I'm a LoL fanatic, so this should be right up my alley.

So I'm flying home from a long visit with the family, stagger in to my place after midnight, and what do I find, but that Growat gifted me Transformers: War For Cybertron! Thank you so much! I will be attempting to make the transforming noise with my mouth and/or whatever non-mouth body parts are necessary while playing this game.

Can't remember who told me. There's a parody out there that makes the point, but it's still an open world crime sim.

Haven't played Payday. I would say DXHR. I really enjoyed that game. In fact, I bought it during this steam sale to replay it. There is some replayablity if you are interested in trying to be stealth or going in guns blazing, or somewhere in between. It's much longer. Probably 20-30 hours if you do all the side quests. Portal 2 is also excellent, but is much shorter and felt a little forced. The gameplay was great, but it kind of felt like an unnecessary sequel. Like they were surprised at how successful Portal was and decided to expand it. I'm not saying it's not an excellent game and it's well worth $5, but I had more fun with DXHR.

Sure looks creepy from what I saw.

Thank you guys! I think I'll pass on Payday then and narrow down my choice for Portal2 or DXHR, it's a tough one for sure.

Then answer is both, definitely both. But yeah another vote against Payday, it was on a free weekend once and I got everything I needed from the game in that weekend.

I think their was a rock paper shotgun review of, and it wasn't exactly glowing. It is quite dark though from what i remember.

Also, a GB quick look:

Big thanks to RoughneckGeek and Malor for Mark of the Ninja, the latter of which was passed along to Phoenix Rev ([GWJ]Phoenix Rev for those of you keeping score *ahem*). Back stabbing ahoy!

Do the Heroes of Might and Magic games ever get a significant discount? I feel like I have been waiting a while to get Heroes VI but $20 still seems a bit high.

And big thanks to Mogg for Botanicula!

Just went up in a Flash Sale! $15 by itself, or in a franchise pack for $30.
