Video Game Deals Catch-All

I thought Overlord was crappy actually.

Why? I thought it was a nice change. The gameplay is more varied than the rest of ME2, and addresses my primary complaint about the game as a whole (too much combat). It also makes a pretty strong emotional/ethical play, as opposed to most ME DLCs which are just kind of info dumps.

None of the ME2 or ME3 "deluxe" come with any of the story (aka "good") DLC

ME3 Deluxe comes with From Ashes according to Amazon, and I think that's essential. The game'd be fine without it, but knowing what I know now about both From Ashes and Leviathan I wouldn't want to play without them.

Anyway, they're $10 apiece, so you'd be saving $5 with the Digital Deluxe edition.

Regarding ME2, I strongly recommend Overlord and Lair of the Shadow Broker, to a lesser extent. I haven't played the last piece of ME2 DLC, nor do I remember what it's called.

Agreed that Deluxe is worth it purely for "From Ashes". I can't imagine the game without it. (Deluxe also gives you the soundtrack, which is a nice bonus.) Leviathan is also essential, since it's A) well-done, and B) helps set up the ending, so it doesn't come completely out of left field.

On ME2, the Kasumi DLC is very worthwhile, and while opinions vary on Overlord, without it certain parts of the opening of ME3 make very little sense.

Unless I am completely misremembering, isn't that one of the two missions where they introduce the hover vehicle (meant to be a bandaid for those who missed the Makor from the first game)? As someone who complained about the Makor at the time, I take it all back. That hover thing is HIDEOUS. The other segments of that mission were OKish (although not up to either Kasumi or Shadow Broker) but I absolutely hated anytime I had to use the vehicle. And there was a decent amount of it.

The hover vehicle was free DLC in Firewalker, as long as you had Cerberus.

Kasumi was the "caper" where you go to the party.

You also used the Hover vehicle in Overlord even without having the free Firewalker DLC.

I was never actually able to play Firewalker because the download via Cerberus never worked on XBL Japan. I was able to play Overlord by downloading it via XBL US if I recall correctly.

I agree. Thanks for all of the advice everyone. What it boils down to is that buying the digital deluxe of ME3 on Amazon right now is a good deal with the $5 discount.

If anyone has any additional comments about DLC, please feel free to PM me or add it to the ME, ME2, or ME3 threads.

For those of you that bought a game on Amazon the last couple weeks, here's the Editor's Choice list, that you can use the $5 credit on starting today.

Doesn't look like Amalur is on there.

Best deal is probably Dark Souls for $18 ($13 with credit) or Hotline Miami $7.50 ($2.50).

Thanks for the heads up. I just picked up The Darkness for $2.50.

First year for me that GMG has had offers that I couldn't resist (XCOM for $17.50 & CivV G&K for $3.75).

I'm in a totally similar place.

Darkness 2 for 2.50
or
Hotline Miami for 2.50

Hmmmmm

If you haven't played ME3, but have gone through ME1 and ME2, I'd get that.

Personally, I went with Hotline Miami. Darkness 2 doesn't excite me, and I already have ME3.

I see Amalur on Page 2 of that list, for $15. $10 after the coupon sounds like a great deal.

So I'm thinking about getting Amalur because at this rate it will never, ever go on sale on Steam. How is Origin? Any major issues?

I just installed Amalur last night. Origin is fine, I've been using it since release. It's just annoying that it's one more service running on my machine in addition to steam and now uplay. I just set everything but steam to not start on boot up and it becomes less annoying.

It's mostly ok. Works good for ME3 and Dragon Age 2. Has some cloud save support now that didn't use to be there. It seems to be improving steadily and having some decent PC game sales on occasion too. And while it doesn't have the screenshot feature of Steam, it has recently adding some streaming ability. Not sure if that's any good yet.

My complaints with it are more about the multiplayer aspect of ME3. You can only have 100 friends on your friends list and there are no groups like Steam. So I'm constantly shuffling goodjers on/off my list to play ME3 with.

And also there is some stupid interaction between all the various developers under EA. Like you have to use a special character in your Origin password. But some of the games, like Mass Effect 2, don't support the same set of characters. Typical EA problem though. If you login to EA's web site you might have 5 different accounts under the same e-mail, from consoles, PC, and various game developers. It's a mess. But maybe that won't be a problem moving forward, but only with older games...

Saw this on a CAG tweet. Daily BB deal is a 3 month Xbox Gold card for $13, and it comes with an 800 MS point card (it will be in your cart when you add the Gold). So 3 months for basically $3.

Picked up one for my daughter. Might should have tried to get two.

I just don't need the points because I've hoarded a bunch on my account. My error was actually entering them so that I can't give her some of my cards.

Yeah the Amazon rep over at CAG said that games would be added to the list. Sounds like Amalur was working but just not on the list yesterday. I still got it for the $10 price, and posted here about it.

That's really the cheapest it will probably ever be, with the DLC included like that. And yeah since the company folded and the company sold directly the Steam version, it doesn't appear that that version is ever going on sale.

I was hoping to have one less service going as well. I suppose it's worth it for the price though.

I'm pretty sure Amalur doesn't need origin running in the background once it's installed. If you don't want tons of stuff running on your machine, disable the option to load it on startup and it'll just load when it needs to (EA stuff).

It's sold out already. That was fast.

You're probably right. I figure EA is just using Amalur on Steam as an advertisement to go buy it elsewhere. If you're interested in the game, you'll find out about options elsewhere. They're clever bastards, EA.

Nope, 38 Studios put Amalur on Steam, not EA. EA has no control over it.

Guess that makes up my mind about ordering a second!

Very good point -- thanks for pointing that out.

I should call up the State of Rhode Island and ask them to put Amalur on sale. =)

You should. It would probably pay off for them.

They don't understand enough how video games work to do anything that would pay off for them...

But they're probably cashing whatever checks come in from Valve...
