Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

I know this has been answered before, but I'd rather not go back through all 120+ pages of the thread...

The Prince of Persia games -- which are worth getting and which are not?

Well, the first one in the new series, Sands of Time, was superb, a really fun game with a whimsical and sweet storyline. Then the second one came out, I think called the Warrior Within, and I think I got about an hour in, and literally threw the disk away. (I've only done that a couple of times.) They'd basically violated the tone of the first game... it was kind of like saying, "Ok, now Gandhi is a butcher of men!" I've had nothing further to do with the series.

Rumor claims that some of them are okay, but I haven't bothered.

I tried to replay Sands of Time on the PC awhile back, and didn't get far with it -- the controls were giving me absolute hell. I'm not sure if it was something I was doing wrong, or if that's how the game is supposed to be, and I'd forgotten.

The 2008 Prince of Persia, titled "Prince of Persia" is quite good. I played it with a controller, so I have no idea how good the mouse & keyboard controls are.

+1 - I loved that one

Ooh SPAZ flash sale! Get on it.

Also Deadlight. What is Deadlight?

Not sure about Deadlight but it looks interesting. I'm a huge fan of platformer type games so might jump on this one. The smaller $3 - $5 purchases are adding up quickly though so I have to be careful

The most recent game was solid, The forgotten sands.

A new year's thanks to Grumpicus for his gift of Rage! Since we apparently dodged the 2012 apocalypse at least I can now satisfy my post-apocalyptic urges virtually!

Oh gosh darnit, you people need to read all the posts. All of them! I posted my "review" of Deadlight earlier in the sale, so here it is again:

I wrote:

Deadlight has a really solid style, and it's generally nice to look at.

That's the only compliment I'll give it.

Gameplay, story, pacing, writing, they all feel mangled in some way. Several - too many - trial and error puzzles decided to hop into bed with tedious checkpoint placement. The combat feels survival-y at first, and that's great, but after a point it only served to frustrate me. The dialogue is good old fashioned bad, and the story becomes entirely predictable halfway through, if not earlier, which only aids in highlighting the irksome way it's being told.

The entire thing ends on the most clichéd monologue I think I've ever heard come out of a video game character.

Looks like I clocked in at about 3 hours, but it felt like I was playing my life away. Honestly, the vehemence with which I came to despise this is completely out of character for me.

I don't recommend buying it.

From here.

Edit: Hang on, you posted in that same thread, Stele. For shame.

I'm on my phone, so i cant check, but iirc Hyetal posted a review earlier of Deadlight that was atrocious (his opinion, I think).

Tannhausered by Viking Claus himself!

That very review of Deadlight, by Hyetal, disabled it for me first time around.

S.P.A.Z worth a wee shot?

Oh sure, blame me for not remembering every post in a 121 page thread!

Thank you though, the game has been removed from my wishlist.

I enjoyed it. I didn't spend that much time with it, but I would like to go back after I finish Grimrock. I think it's worth $2.50

My wife is going to kill me when she sees how much I have spent on SteamSale. I don't think I have bought one thing for myself.

Thank you Mateo! You are too kind! I feel very lucky to be part of this awesome community. IMAGE(http://i.imgur.com/P1YBe.jpg)

Blasphemy!

Thanks to Silentsod again! I've heard so much about FTL and I'm excited to try it out!

Ssh..

I did read it. And that's why it's not on my wishlist.

But when I saw it on flash sale, with a decent metascore and a few dozen friends owning it, I wondered why it wasn't on my wishlist.

Thanks for the reminder. :p

More importantly they need to release the mod tools. It's a great game, but I have achievements waiting to complete for playing with 1, 5, and 10 mods, etc, just like the first game.

Loved it. Have 41/48 achievements from just 1 or 2 games of it. I never did replay it after the bounty hunters got added in, but I think people felt it got even better after that.

*ignores silly PC elite comments*

Is it just me or were they quicker on this stuff with TL1?

No idea about the Mac stuff, but yeah, the mod tools were out maybe a month after the first game's release.

Just checked and yeah, Torchlight Oct 2009, TorchEd Nov 2009.

Woohoo! Just finished up Max Payne 3. That's .... one game off the list (looks at pile before it falls and crushes me)

Is Crysis worth it at $4.99?

Yes

A big thanks to Mateo for his gift of Torchlight 2. I had fun with the original, and hopefully we can get some co-op going once I'm ready to dig into it.
