Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Oh my goodness, Jarpy! I stepped away from my PC for a few minutes, and come back to find that you lobbed an amazing gift of Anno 2070 all the way back in time to 2012 to find me. Thank you!

oh, what are the chances FTL will go back on sale for more than 25%?

I have a friend that I don't think has had the honor of playing it yet and I would like to purchase it for him.

I constantly see a bunch of GWJer guys playing Binding of Isaac but it must not be selling very well because it's always on sale...

Must be the name or something, personally I think I bought it but no desire to play it yet : p

I bought it a while back thinking I'd like it but it turned out the Flash powering it is all CPU-dependent and I get too much slowdown.

Crippled by 2D dungeons. In 2013.

(I need a new PC.)

Actually I think it's the opposite. I think it sells extremely well for the scale it is. At least the creator Ed McMillen seems to think so, in interviews he is always astounded by the number of people that have bought it.

In fact, I think he just sells it for so cheap because he genuinely wants people to play his game. He is not out to get rich. He made a strange game for mostly personal reasons, and the fact that people buy it is just icing on the cake.

Also, if you are going to play it, do yourself a favor and make sure you are ready to stick with it for a bit. The moment to moment gameplay is not very deep, but if you play over at least a handful of sessions you will see where it's brilliance comes from. Also don't be afraid to use wiki spoilers if you start feeling stuck.

Also note that a non-flash version is in development. The creator completely underestimated how successful the game would be, and hadn't planned to have pushed flash as far as he did. So if you wait long enough for that to come out then I'm pretty sure it will work on older hardware pretty easily.

I might miss giving out a daily gift by one day - depends upon how low some of these prices go I've still got some left in my wallet, and I will use every last cent possible

I've had so much fun doing this. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my money.

(Not Steam Sale specific, but in the spirit of gifting)

Does anyone want a CaveStory+ key?

I just realised I have an extra one from the most recent Humble Bundle, first one to PM gets it.

So I'm staring at Far Cry 3 trying to decide if the reduced price of 37 vs 50 is worth the money on an extremely tight budget.

The main issue for me is the price and maybe time depending on the few games I've received and can't try till I go back to Florida. So is it worth the price to put it in the front of the "Christmas Pile" queue? If not Far Cry 3, would XCOM be worth it? These are the two larger games that I'm heavily considering. Or would it be better to let those two wait till the Easter/Spring sale?

Mogg, my favoritest legal guy with the biggest heart just sent me Hero Academy, a game I had never heard of but it looks like a turn based strategy, so right up my alley. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Goodjers!

Time to clean out my Steam inventory (which I must have never looked at before).

I have:

3 2 x Magicka
1 x Torchlight
1 x Alien Breed: Impact

Free to good homes, friend me and send an IM/PM if you want any of those little fellas.

Haven't played FC3, but XCOM is pretty fun. That being said though, if you have other games you haven't played yet that you already own, and you're on a tight budget.... Seems like any game can wait, especially when they are single-player focused.

I just tried to play Thirty Flights of Loving and it keeps crashing on startup... So much for actually playing games received during the Steam sales.

You won't lose by waiting to find out, sometimes(always? once?) they do a recap of the popular sales on the last day but if not then the current price should still be in effect until then.

Thanks alot Crhis, I love me some old school platformer goodness

Still got my fingers crossed for a deeper Little Inferno discount...that's the only thing left I really would like to get this sale.

Wow, this thread is really slow when the US is asleep! I just got around to launching Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble which Peedmyself was kind to gift me, and it really fun, fresh, different. Having tons of fun with it!!
Off to an evening with friends for the new year, so happy new year, goodjers! May 2013 be kind to you all!!! :)

Well, Dantooine is too remote to make an effective Steam location. But don't worry. We'll deal with your gifting friends soon enough.
(Just barely works there)

I don't know what you're talking about, it works very well. Look! The more you tighten your fingers, the more goodjers will slip through your fingers!!

A big thank you to Manach for the gift of Psychonauts!! Hoping to use my shiny my new controller when I play this one!!

Also, happy new year everyone!

Question, today's deals are... F1 2012, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the Alan Wake franchise, Binding of Isaac, Terraria, aaaaand? (not available in my region, apparently)

The missing one is the Fable franchise (75%).

A hearty Happy New Year to the most excellent tanstaafl for the gift of DX:HR. I was a huge fan of the original and am very much looking forward to taking this one for a spin. Thanks!

Thanks very much to Sally Nasty for the gift of Alan Wake. I've been curious about that one for quite awhile, but have never been quite sufficiently enabled, so voila! I am now enabled. Thank you, sir!

Thanks, Aristophan! For the life of me, I don't understand why I wouldn't have the privilege of playing the Fable games. Guess I'll have to settle for Fable: The Lost Chapters, that's the only one available...

In a vile twist of irony, Peter Molyneux, an Englishman, takes one final shot at the French, despite his last name

Just watch this video (32 reasons why fable 3 sucks) and have no regrets ;).

I'm debating if to get Fable but I currently don't have an itch to get anything. I got Dragon age and Tropico 4 as gifts and it's hard to play any games with a 2 month old baby awake.

happy new years everybody. Have fun trying not to write 2012 on everything for the next 3 months.

I've played it and to be honest, I wouldn't recommend spending money to play it. Very dull for the most part.
But if you want to pacify the pyromaniac inside of you, it's pretty good for that.
Currently the 33% is not enough justification, I'd wait for lower prices (-75%) if you really want to get it.

I think we should just pick a year, and stick with it. 1982 was good. We could just go with that.

A big thank you to SaintFaucet for the gift of Shad'O.

This looks like the kind of Tower Defense game I can really get my teeth sunk into.

Yeah, yeah, laugh it up!

Oh, wow, that looks... really, really bad. Fable was pretty good, though, I'm told?
Haven't got around to Tropico 4, but Dragon Age will deliver some fun RPG. But yeah, 2 month old baby and gaming, kinda tough to juggle, I get that.

So what's the GWJ opinion on From Dust? Anyone know if it's any good?

Edited because of quote tags gone horribly wrong. But M0nk3yboy was too fast and quoted my horrible wreck of a post before I fixed it.

I loved it on the 360... What little I played of it.

Edit: amended for the lady

Just played through 30 flights of Lovin and trying to figure out what the hell i just did......
