Steam Winter Sale 2012 - Seriously Guys, It Was Over Two Months Ago! Move Along!

Doing well so far, only caved to Mark of the Ninja

Waffling on Doom 3. Did pick up the STALKER series (owned, barely played, prefer it on Steam!). That's a nice haul.

I was considering A Valley Without Wind, and a google search led me to RPS. What do I see but this...

So, what is the final verdict, Stangeblades? Do I want this game?

Dammit, I just want Dishonored and Borderlands 2 to go on sale again. I missed out on Dishonored when it first showed up on the daily deals, and I thought I saw BL2 had also been more than 25% off at one point. I'm just hoping either one gets another deeper-than-25% discount this week. Not that I don't have enough on the pile as is

They'll both go on sale again; I have no doubt that they'll both be part of the last day-mega sale.

What is the consensus on the DLC for Deus Ex? Is it worth picking up?

I thought Missing Link was kind of forgettable and unnecessary. Which is a shame really because I loved Deus Ex.

So, Terraria... How kid friendly is it? I'm tempted to buy 3 licenses and setup extra Steam accounts for my kids to play with me but it looks a bit more combat heavy than I'd like. Plus huge flying skull monster things in the trailer. Any thoughts on this? My 4 & 6 year old love Minecraft and we play together nicely. I thought Terraria might be a bit easier for us to stay together and explore though (something that's kind of hard to explain to kids not used to moving around 3D terrain).

There are zombies in Minecraft, right? I do agree they seem less scary and threatening than some of the stuff you see in Terraria.

There are a lot of zombies, and they make grunting and groaning sounds. Then there are some weird huge eye bosses you fight. Oh, and if you dig deep enough... you get to the underworld and all that entails.

It's great fun, but I don't know how your kids would feel about it.

Things also tend to explode into bloody pieces if you care about that kind of stuff.

The base game is really good. Missing Link is more of the same without any of the story really and smaller area. It's not bad, just isn't great. If you finished the base game and want more without repeating, it's worth playing. Otherwise probably not. With all that said, I love Deus Ex and played Missing Link with pleasure, precisely because I want more of it.

Stuck at work, though we can go home early, but I've been using my "spare" time today to add to my friends list

Oh yes, I suppose they do... it's been many months since I played Terraria, heh....

Has anyone played Shattered Horizon on an older machine? I have a nearly 5-yr-old laptop that will run most things on low to mid settings, but SH looks like it might be a beast according to the specs. My rig is dx10 so it should run it, but I just want to know if it will be playable.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a demo available.

I wouldn't even concern yourself with it regardless. It's a fun game but based on the last time I looked, no one's playing it and it's multiplayer only.

Can I turn the blood & gore off? I'm probably going to pass on it but I'm just a little curious I guess

I don't think so. To be fair, there was no blood spurting, but... the zombies do break apart.

I'm sure if you Youtube some Terraria gameplay videos you'll see what it's like.

I just checked, and I did not find an option to turn off the blood/gore.

Oh one more thing about Dark Mod, do not get BFG edition of Doom 3 if you intend to play it, it will only work with the version patched up to in the previous doom 3 release.

And the final day of 2012 starts off with the gift of Bit Trip Core from none other than Dr. Thaddeus S. Venture himself. Thanks very much, shoptroll!

This thread, and the cornucopia of giving found within, makes me so very happy.

Have people been talking about the dark mod in conjunction with Doom 3 being on Steam sale? I didn't check here for 2 days and there's 200+ new posts :p

Anyhow, for $3.24 you get the doom 3 pack, which will let you play this.. I've been meaning to get back to it but I can't find my doom 3 discs since my move, but there was a recent release (Dark mod 1.08) that looks like its worth tracking it down for.

I'd never heard of the mod before, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks to redherringnz for OMD2!

...Until they release their standalone version based off the source code release.

Strangeblades has been cheating on us!

Oh god! I totally forgot! I also have a free copy of the first Torchlight to gift to the first non-Coffee Grinder that PMs me. I'm sure there are a few of you out there...

It is moddable. My son even made some weapon and armor skins. I guess it is more accurate to say it is skin able. I know that some folks make mods, but not sure how deep you can get.

My son and I have more coop hours in Terraria than any of the Lego games. He's ten now, started at eight or nine. Zombies and night music creeped him out at first. If you can't find a mod to make it more younger kid friendly, 4 and 6 might be a bit young.

Isn't the last day just a repeat of previous daily deals, rather than totally new ones? I don't remember every daily deal or flash sale coming back before. Otherwise, what's the point of having them in the first place?

Stranglebangle could do far worse. RPS is mostly friendly and insightful like GWJ, except with more PC gaming (yay), more arguing (boo), and more tea and biscuits (jolly good).

IF it happens that way again for this sale, it'll be 6 of the previous daily deal games going back to the daily deal price, not all of them. Tanglebones is just saying that he's thinking Dishonored and Borderlands 2 will be two of them.

Strange/stan/strangleblades is allowed to visit RPS. We have that kind of a relationship.

He isn't allowed to not advise me on Valley Without Wind, however. I demand answers! Answers and biscuits!

You received more than biscuits...

Since I've been busy but I would like to thank these two people from the bottom of my heart.

Jamos05 You are handsome and a gentleman.

Garden Ninja: You have a way with gifts. Thank you so much.

Stanblades escapes without comment, I see. Next time, Strangebades! Next time!

(Thanks, Manach! :))

Ahrezmendi is a true patriot. I came back from my Diablo 3 session to find a copy of Hero Academy waiting for me.

Thank you!
