In other news, vehicles are a pain to control with mouse and keyboard and the game doesn't want to recognize my XBox controller for some reason.

Do you have a flight stick, a Belkin n2te, nostromo, or something else like them? If so, the game can have trouble seeing the 360 controller even though your other games see it. In my case, I have the Belkin and needed to unplug it AND uninstall all of the drivers for it before the 360 controller would work. In a few other people's cases just unplugging their nostromo and rebooting worked.

Yeah, I have a Nostromo and a flight stick (which isn't plugged in though I see its control panel is running). I'll try unplugging the Nostromo and pulling the drivers if necessary.

I hope it works for you. I bought the game over the summer sale and put off playing it for a few months because I was playing another game using the Belkin at the time. I just finished up the story missions today, and the game really was as good as people said it was. It has some of the most imaginative and unexpected sequences of any game that I've played.

This will sound weird but I had to disable the nostromo for me to be able to use anything in Darksiders. If you arent using disable in the device manager!

I think I have a problem. I've decided I need to have at least one of every vehicle in the game in my garage so I'm stealing every one I find.

And painting them all purple.

This somehow sums up my Saints Row experience...

I could have probably finished the game by now if I hadn't been caught up stealing one of every vehicle. It started with the street sweeper and grew weirder from there.

You're doing it wrong right!

Yup. If you're doing stupid things and enjoying it, then you're playing the game right!

Among many other reasons to love SRTT, possibly the 3 best uses of licensed music in gaming history are all in this game. One of them nearly made me roll off of my couch I was laughing so hard.

I won't spoil any of them, but I'd give nearly anything to be able to experience them for the first time again. Right now I'm in the middle of my third playthrough (this time, with the PC version hooked up to my big screen. So much goodness).

I'd love to have the main menu music as my ringtone.

All this excitement has made me want to go back and do another playthrough.

If you did the THQ Humble Bundle, it included the SR:TT score. If you didn't you can get just that song from Amazon here.

You know I never used that weapon I pretty much always used the pistols with exploding bullets or the mg that caught every thing on fire. Nothing beats having scores of an enemy gang riding up and you are blowing their vehicles up before they can get out of the car!

Also, new people, post more pics!

Here are a couple of my favorites!

Ugh having trouble with the STEAM screenshot page, I'll have to post more later.

This. The upgrade silver pistols and the upgraded green SMG are ridiculously fun. I always carry the dildobat, but rarely use it.

OK, I finally managed to get my controller working. It was indeed my Nostromo. I couldn't just unplug it, I had to go into device manager and disable the driver before the game would see the controller.

Dunno what is different about SR3. I tried a couple of other games and they all saw the controller fine. Oh well, at least I can control vehicles now.

I had to do the same thing for Darkstalkers.

Me too. Other than that, my controller has been pretty good.

The trick I learned to identify the culprit was to open a command prompt and type 'joy.cpl' (without the quotes, obviously). In the window that pops up if your controller is not the first thing on the list then you will have to identify and disable/uninstall whatever is ahead of it. Apparently SR3 only looks at the first "joystick" it sees.

Wait... the mayor of Steelport is Burt Reynolds?!

((Checks credits)) Holy crap. It really is him.

Hmm... I also see that Viola is voiced by Sasha Grey.

how can you tell, every time she talks she has something stuck in her mouth.

Yeah, when Burt was revealed as the mayor, I had to take a break, I was laughing so hard.

Indeed. This game is pure win, stuffed with epic and covered in awesomesauce.

...Dammit, now I'm hungry.

I wanted to get plastic surgery to change my character into Archer and drive muscle cars with Burt as my homie.

Am I the only one who just never called for Homies? I just never found the need for it combat was rarely so difficult that I felt like I needed backup, the only time I ever really died was the survival challenges and that was mostly only in the beginning.

I always have to remind myself to call for homies, as I feel like it adds to the enjoyment of just tooling around the city and messing stuff up. Too much personality to squander

The funniest part of the whole encounter to me was how your character, who until then had been an unflappable bad-ass, goes total fanboy when he sees who it is.

One of the best "hidden" parts of the game is to call in a few different homies, and just drive around the city listening to the utterly bizarre conversations they have with each other. There's some hilarious dialogue buried there.

My favorite "what did they just say?" moment comes early on just after you get Kinzie.

Kinzie: The club is called "Safe Word". The name comes from...
Character: I know what it means.
Kinzie: Mine's "teacup"
Me:

My favorite is when you bring Pierce to meet her for the first time and he's going through her stuff. Let's just say her modified bat probably doesn't have the same usage as your characters based on the rest of that base.

Oh, definitely. Later conversation with her.

Character: How much of this electronics stuff do you have? Kinzie, you need to get laid.
Kinzie: Electronics is good for that too.
Me:

There's also the conversation where your character is trying to determine her taste in music and she admits to liking Gansta Rap.

If only I could figure out how to increase the transaction limit. It currently is at 5k, whereas I am making ~9k an hour.

There are things you unlock as you proceed that raise the transaction limit. I think it is designed to prevent you from getting too much income before you've advanced the main plot a bit.

I was in post sale, new year, new pile gamer paralysis. I gave most of the games I picked up a 30-60minute shot just to see how they "feel", with nothing really grabbing me.

But then I saw that I had this sitting in my gift inventory. I picked it up during the summer sale and forgot all about it. Downloaded it last night and played an hour. After playing the first hour of Spec Ops: The Line. Is there a starker contrast to be had?

Anyway, put another hour in this morning. Man, people were not wrong about this game. It values the players time and is so over the top that I can see myself easily finishing this one whereas I never got further than 2-3 hours into any of the 3D GTA games. For now, I've decided to take over the first district and exterminate those pill-popping blue gangbangers. I also dig the whole passive income thing, which I already enjoyed greatly in AC2. If only I could figure out how to increase the transaction limit. It currently is at 5k, whereas I am making ~9k an hour.

I am 7h in and having a blast. Such a great value for the dollars spent!

So what is the trick to the insurance fraud events? I barely beat the medium difficulty one with 5 seconds to go. The hard one I barely make it half way there (400k needed) in the time I have. The most I ever get in a single crash is 20k, and I can pull of a handful of 10ks, but that's it.

Also, how do I take over the sections of the city that have no activity attached to them and no gang activity to quell?

At least I have ~$40k rolling in every "hour" now by owning all the properties, so I will be upgraded and armed up to my teeth soon.

I've been telling people that even at full price this game was worth every penny... glad you finally listened it

Ignore the highlighted areas and head for freeway intersections, or freeways in general.

Progressing the storyline unlocks more activities, I think (I could be wrong about that).
