NFL 2012 Week 17 Thread

The home stretch...

Cowboys at Redskins: A head-to-head battle for the top of the NFC East. The Redskins potentially could enter this game with a wildcard spot wrapped up, depending on what happens in the games earlier in the day. If the football gods are just, however, both teams will enter this game with a win-to-get-in scenario. I would love to pick Big D in an upset, but I can't pick against the Redskins right now.

Packers at Vikings: Green Bay is playing for a first-round bye, while Minnesota, believe it or not, is still in the playoff mix at 9-6, thanks to a 3-game win streak late-season rally. Adrian Peterson fell off the Dickerson pace last week, but is still a good bet to break the 2,000 mark. But the Packers are playing like a team primed to do some damage in the postseason.

Bears at Lions: The playoff window is closing in Chicago, and they'll need a win plus some help to keep it open. The Bears have lost 3 of their last 4, while the Lions are riding a 7-game losing streak that brings Lion teams of old to mind. Calvin Johnson is 108 yards away from being the first 2,000 yard receiver ever. Smart money says that he gets there, but that the Lions still lose. Bears

Texans at Colts: Chuck Pagano returns to the sidelines just in time to prepare for the playoffs. The Colts have a wildcard locked up, while the Texans are playing to wrap up homefield advantage. Houston has lost 2 of their last 3 and aren't exactly looking like they're in postseason form. They'll have their hands full going on the road against an emotionally charged Colts team. I'm taking the Colts upset.

And the wild card...
Jaguars at Titans: For a 2-win team, the Jags gave the Patriots a go of it last week. They looked like a real football team. Tennessee, meanwhile, was run off the field by the Packers. Last year, the Jaguars won in week 17 to help seal the Colts into the #1 pick and Andrew Luck. There's no such prize to be had this year, but I expect the Jaguars to repeat their week 17 draft order sabotage. Question is, who will be in place in April to make use of the pick?

Dallas at Washington: People around town have been wearing their Redskins shirts, hats and jerseys with pride. Makes me think I should choose Dallas, but Washington is too hot right now. Washington.

Green Bay at Minnesota: Wow. Who woulda thunk this game would've mattered? I've got nothing to lose by picking Minnesota as I've been out of the running for a long time.

Chicago at Detroit: What the hell, Detroit? Chicago.

Houston at Indianapolis: This is difficult. I'll take the young upstarts in Indianapolis.

Jacksonville at Tennessee: The battle of the coaches likely to be fired. Also, Gene Smith will be out in Jacksonville following another loss. Tennessee.

Edit: changed to Jacksonville - Tennessee has been thinking about golf since Thanksgiving, Jacksonville still looks like they are interested in playing some football.

Houston at Indianapolis: Houston's on cruise control and Pagano is super powered by radiation. Indianapolis.

Jacksonville at Tennessee: Jacksonville I believe in the Black man Blackmon.

Pat Shurmur and whoever the Browns GM is are already dead men walking as they're to be fired after the game tomorrow.

No surprise with a new owner and all. I'm hoping for a McDaniels-Pioli reunion. As a Ravens fan a competitive Browns team isn't what I want and that match likely won't field good teams.

The Browns have gone to the miserable Belichik well several times. I'm hoping that they don't give Pioli another shot. I wouldn't be too surprised if he went back to the Pats. He'll feel like a genius again, while not actually having to make any material decisions.

Lombardi and McDaniels are still the rumour, I guess. Losing Heckert would be a big mistake. Hopefully the next coach is smart enough to keep Jauron as DC. Chip Kelly, Nick Saban, and McDaniels are the three big names being mentioned for coach right now, but I don't see any of them wanting to take the job.

This is what I'm hoping so the Giants can get into the playoffs. They need Dallas, Bears and Vikings to lose.

Woot, 5-0 last week. If I do that again and people above me go 0-5 I can win this thing.

I didn't realize the Colts had clinched the playoffs. Anyone else feel that Luck hasn't been getting much publicity compared to the other rookie QBs?

Biggest surprise of the year? For me it is either how well Peyton Manning has played, or how well Wilson/Griffin/Luck have played.

Since nobody linked this thread in last weeks' thread, my picks are late, after the first quarter of the early games has begun. Would be nice if they can still be counted. :p

Looks like the Titans game is tied, the Texans are losing and the Bears are winning 7-3 when I made the picks. Ugh.

There are a whole lot of people that rely on Recent Posts around here. Not updating last week's thread with a link is almost like not starting a new thread at all.

Why are they showing me Giants vs Eagles? Is anyone outside of New York interested in this? At least the Texans/Colts is the other game.
